Tucked among spruce trees, on a ledge of Labrador Tea that displays spellbinding rugged mountain views, The Aurora at Little Bear Getaway Cabins is peaceful seclusion. It is a short walk from the parking area to an unforgettably authentic, idyllic nook to get back in touch with Nature's rhythm. Now with a complete ensuite bathroom, Aurora also has a fully equipped kitchen, one queen and one twin bed, and dining table for you to unwind the easy way.

The space
Little Bear Getaway Cabins are 15 minutes from the Matanuska Glacier, North America's largest year-round road accessible glacier, and one mile from Sheep Mountain Lodge, with wintertime cross country ski trails and snowmachining trails. Summertime activities close by such as whitewater rafting, hiking, helicopter tours, zip-lining, and horseback riding abound. Winter time restaurants are Long Rifle Lodge and Eureka Roadhouse, about ten minutes and 20 minutes away, respectively, and in addition, Memorial Day through Labor Day has two more restaurants open within two miles of the cabins. The cabins are set well apart from eachother in a natural clearing. Your cabin is milled from local spruce and custom built with high vaulted ceilings and an outdoor deck by a master log craftsman. We strive to keep the space free of harsh cleaning chemicals, perfumes, or unnatural scents.

Guest access
A screened-in pavilion contains an outdoor cook space with range and oven and BBQ, as well as a stone firepit with a small swivel BBQ grill to cook over an open flame. We do try to keep marshmallows stocked, and firewood free for use here.

The Sauna:
Use at your own risk! First come first serve, but be mindful of sharing with other guests. Firewood and fire starting materials are provided. Do not burn anything other than provided wood. Please squeegee the benches and floor from water when done. Close all doors (and the vent on the stove door, which will dampen the fire down as low as possible for the last coals to slowly die out). Empty any containers of water.

Trails to the cabins are a natural surface. A sled or cart is provided (and assistance if we are home for check in), to carry your bags to your cabin. IF YOU ARE BOOKING IN THE WINTER please be aware we MAY need 4-5 hours notice to warm your cabin up before your arrival!

Neighborhood highlights

Pure wilderness all around, but we have easy access from the small, two lane highway from Anchorage. We cannot see the highway, but can hear when a car drives by. Moose and lynx are frequent visitors; we can see no other homes.
