•Summers find locals and visitors alike hiking, mountain biking, dirt biking, four-wheeling, scenic and wildlife viewing, horseback riding, and just about any other outdoor activity you can think of. Steamboat Lake State Park is just across the street offering premier fishing and boating to a full-service marina and swim beach. If fly fishing is your thing there are many nearby lakes, streams and rivers to choose from. Summer arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and the nights are ordinarily in the 40's.
•Autumn is a gorgeous time in the Rockies with breathtaking scenery. Our Aspens tend to "turn" about the third weekend in September with the shorter days and cooler weather. Although indian summers are frequent we usually have at least one early snow in the beginning of September, but doesn't stick! Elk and deer seasons also start in September and run through November.
•In winter, nearby Steamboat Springs Ski Resort offers some of Colorado's best skiing. All around Hahn's Peak and Steamboat Lake you'll find a winter wonderland with over 140 miles of groomed snowmobiling and cross-country skiing trails. This region is one of Colorado's more snowy areas. Through the winter the highs are mostly in the 20's; through the dark hours in the winter temperatures drop to the 0's.
A little history of our village...The original Hahn's Peak was founded close to the shores of Steamboat Lake in 1865 during Colorado's gold and silver rush days, and was the original County Seat of Routt County.
Hahn's Peak Village today offers visitors a stroll through Colorado's colorful past, and offers residents a peaceful & historic residential life. The locals have opted to preserve the original quiet residential character of the town and shy away from the commercial tourism development typical of many old Colorado mountain towns.
The entire area around Hahn’s Peak and Steamboat Springs is one of the best vacation destinations in Colorado and we invite you to visit.
Had a very pleasant overnight stay at the Hahn's Creek residence (Clark, CO). Kathy Clark was a warm and inviting host and really made me feel welcome. The room is in a walkout basement at the main entrance. It's an air-bed which I was concerned about as my back was sore from a long drive, but it was wonderfully comfortable. As mentioned in the listing, you are welcome to head upstairs to the main residence and enjoy the stunning views. I fixed myself a quick breakfast in the main level kitchen while Kathy phoned a bunch of places to see if she could find a place to board my dog while I went skiing at Steamboat, which was very helpful and more than I was expecting. Somehow I really didn't feel like a stranger in the house at all. One thing to note, the house isn't in the actual town of Clark so DO pay attention to the directions you're given (I just figured Main St. Clark wouldn't be hard to find and so overshot by a few miles. Thank god for a random stranger and his GPS!) Also, the road through Routt Nat'l Forest is spectacular, but you do really need to consider your vehicle. I had AWD and premium winter tires and wouldn't have wanted anything less (in January) -- it was a long, remote (and stunning) drive. The other way in, from the south, is also beautiful but much tamer. I only spent the night on my way elsewhere, but it would be a great place to spend some time x-c skiing, snowshoeing etc in winter or hiking in summer. Just gorgeous country, quiet and secluded. Interesting history too.
