The gypsy caravans appeal to those looking for an affordable romantic weekend.
They have special interiors with coloured glass windows, plush textiles, lace and unexpected romantic touches. All the caravans have breathtaking water views, courtyards and screened planting that offers privacy.
Two of the Gypsy Caravans have outdoor cast iron baths, under the stars with great water views, privacy screens and herbal bath salts.
The gypsy caravan down by the river bank has its own, very private deck that sits out over a “playful” section of the river.
The gypsy caravan on the prime, elevated site is having a special addition: the court yard is being fitted with a screened, elegant, antique tin bath (with plenty of hot water) open to the night sky and both river and inlet views. This will be ready by spring.
As the gypsy caravans are lined and come with small oil heaters, they are ideal for an autumn or winter getaway.
There are basic utilities - kettle, tea & coffee, fridge & outside wash stand with basin. All other ammenities are nearby.

My husband and I were so lucky to have been able to spend 2 amazing nights of our honeymoon in this unique and special location. Stephen and his wife were more than accommodating and were all smiles. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them for an unforgettable experience! Our gypsy caravan was right next to the river with our own private outdoor bathtub and dock to sit on. We couldn't have asked for more. We will be back again someday when we do a return trip to NZ! :) Thank you so much Stephen!
An incredible place! The caravan is immaculate, sweetly decorated, nestled in a bend of a breathtakingly beautiful river. For an easy relaxing retreat, this caravan experience is better than perfect. In a fantastic part of New Zealand, you have easy access to all kinds of sights and activities. Stephen and Kathy are great hosts, with local advice. Almost immediately I arrived, I started planning my next trip back. This is a place that is easy to adore.
We had a lovely stay in the bay of islands for 3 nights in June. The weather was a bit cooler than expected, so Stephen offered to upgrade us to the 'honeymoon' cottage for a discounted rate. The cottage itself was clean and cozy, with a lovely view of the river out back. The decor was very tasteful and added to the 'romantic' atmosphere of the cottage. We liked to have the ability to cook our own meals inside the cottage and have access to our own private bathroom facilities, rather than using the outdoor shared kitchen, toitlets and showers... especially in winter!
Stephen was very helpful with sharing recommendations of sights to see or areas to explore.
It is important to note that the cottages/caravans are immersed in nature, so expect to share your space with some of smaller inhabitants from the trees and forrest surrounding ;)
What a spot! Beautiful river and gardens, gypsy caravan was warm and cosy, would definitely stay here again and will recommend to friends. Stephen was incredibly helpful and full of knowledge about the area and if he doesn't have the answer he knows someone who does ;-)
Stephen is a wonderful host. His place is created with love for the details. It's just beautiful there.
In the middle of the bush at the riverside - we felt like home. Everything was perfect for us.
As we did not have a car, we liked to do bushwalks every day. It's perfect for the health
Stephen was very friendly and helpful in giving us information about the area.
caravan was very cool, right on the water, and good fun
stay here if looking for a unique gypsy experience
