The Space

Spectacular home for relaxing or entertaining! Our split-Plan home provides plenty of privacy, creature comforts, and all the amenities to make your stay very enjoyable. The property features open cathedral ceilings, plenty of windows, glass French doors and a 9' wide sliding glass pocket door that brings the tropical backyard pool deck seemingly right into the house!

The main/shared living area of the house has a large open kitchen, quiet front room off the entry courtyard, comfortable open great room off of the kitchen and dining area.

***TO AVOID ANY CONFUSION we do want to point out that we reside in this home full time. We like to clarify this right up front, as we have received many inquiries from guests who seemed to be unaware of this. We rent out 2 bedrooms and bathrooms (on the separate side of my home) and of course include full use of the house, pool, yard etc..***

So much about Florida includes enjoying and celebrating the outdoors! To this end you will enjoy the privacy of a solar-heated tropical backyard rock pool, spa, and waterfall with substantial deck area. Sunbathing can be enjoyed while in the pool, on the deck or in one of four sun loungers. All of this is protected under a large screen pool enclosure.

The property backs up to an executive golf course. The backyard also features a covered lanai off of the kitchen with a light and ceiling fan. There are also views of a canal that connects to the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon. There is a gas BBQ grill, lanai heater, tables, chairs, sun loungers and pool floats.

There is wireless internet throughout the house and backyard, and cable TV in the great room and all bedrooms (Pay-per-view movies available at extra cost). Free use of Internet VOIP telephone to the US and Canada. All rooms have ceiling fans, and there is central air conditioning and heat throughout the home.

The larger guestroom (Lavender in pictures) has an adjustable Queen sized bed, a private "en-suite" bathroom with a very spacious roll-in shower, and large north facing window overlooking the pool and spa.

The smaller guestroom (Tan in pictures) has a Queen sized bed with a west facing window, and uses the adjacent/shared hall bathroom with a combination tub and hand-held shower (this bathroom is not wheelchair accessible unless it can fit through a 27" wide door).

You will have free use of our home, kitchen, laundry, pool, yard, and amenities to enjoy as your own while you are our guests. One or two guests will have/share your own guest suite with a Queen size bed and private en suite bathroom. If you are a party of three or four you will have the use of two bedrooms on the opposite side of the house from our owner’s suite and office. (or at additional $20/night charge 2 guests may occupy both the guest suite and guest bedroom)

The entire house (other than 1 hall bathroom), as well as most of the yard and neighborhood is wheelchair accessible (no steps), including the docks (about 100 meters from the house). There is a sidewalk in front of the house that connects to the main sidewalk that runs the entire length of Sebastian (about 7 miles). There is a Walgreen's drugstore only 1 block from the house, and a Pubix grocery store across the street from it. There is a Subway sandwich shop there, an Italian and Chinese restaurants, liquor store, UPS store, hair cutter, nail salon, and boutique shop.

You are welcome to make yourself at home and use the well appointed kitchen as well as the laundry facilities.

If you care to fish or dive I may have enough gear to outfit you and/or connect you with a guide. You can bring your own canoe or kayak and launch from my dock, or rent them or stand-up paddle boards in town.

We have a 22' deck boat that I might be persuaded to take you out on fishing, tubing, water-skiing, sightseeing, or just hanging out with locals on the sandbar (if you cover fuel costs, about $25/hour).

The property is located about 2 miles south of Sebastian, and about 8 miles north of Vero Beach. Sebastian is a great fishing area. There is also freshwater fishing in lakes nearby, shallow water and flats fishing in the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon (less than 300 meters from the house), and offshore fishing. This is a very eco-friendly area and home to Pelican Island Sanctuary. There are hundreds of dolphins and manatees who call the estuary home. We seldom go out to any of the 4 waterfront restaurants or out on the "river" that we don't see dolphins. We have several festivals and fishing tournaments throughout the year here.

Vero Beach is just to the south, and features many fine arts and cultural offerings at the museum and performing arts theatre. There are several upscale dining and shopping opportunities in Vero Beach, and there are also several movie screens at two different locations.

If you are more active and/or adventurous you can rent surfboards, boogie boards, kayaks, paddle boards, boats and jet-skis in Sebastian to explore and play in/on the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon; take guided eco-tours on commercial pontoon boats; fishing or surfing at Wabasso Beach (4.5 miles) or Sebastian Inlet State Park (11.5 miles); diving; dozens of miles of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails; birding; or jump right out of the sky at Skydive Sebastian, one of the top skydiving destinations and training facilities in the world! ((website hidden), just 7.5 miles, 15 minutes away)

There are several waterfront restaurants in Sebastian. You might want to start the day at "Mulligan's" watching dolphins feeding as you enjoy breakfast from their rear deck overlooking the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon. Have lunch at "Squid Lips Over Water Grill" (the best conch chowder and bacon wrapped scallops), or drinks, dinner and dancing or listening to live music at "Captain Hiram's" outdoor sandbar or indoor dining (once again located right on the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon. Not enough to do yet? Try the "Tiki-Hut" on Indian River Estuary/Lagoon and play "Corn-Hole" or sing karaoke, or visit "Outriggers", "Pelican Pub", "Chill & Grill" or the "World Famous Earl's" biker bar/tiki hut outdoor Sunday blues music. You can have pizza from a different shop every day of the week! If you want something different (and fried) take a 15 minute drive to old Florida and have sweet potato pancakes or frog legs, gator tail, catfish, fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, fried okra , fried oysters at "Marsh Landing" in Fellsmere.

If you crave fine dining, Vero Beach "Beachside" has all you could ask for , starting with the famouse "Ocean Grill and historic "Waldo's" (I think their "Backyard Burger" is as good as any burger, anywhere, and you can order and eat it at a table just above the beach and poolside at the "Driftwood Inn". If you desire something more contemporary I highly recommend "Cobalt" or "Citrus" (both on the beach in Vero), or the "Tides", "Maison Martinique"...(are you hungry yet?)

In case of emergency we have great police, sheriff, fire department and EMT services, along with two hospitals. Duke University has partnered with the Indian River Medical Center and has one of the premier heart centers in the nation!

If you are travelling through the state, Sebastian is located on the east [Treasure] coast 90 minutes to two hours south of Daytona Beach [north], Orlando [west], and Palm Beach [south]. Further south is Ft. Lauderdale (125 miles), Miami (150 miles), Florida Keys (200 miles) and Key West (300 miles).

I have been a property manager and owned many resort vacation properties over the years. I have lots of experience as a "concierge". This is my personal home I designed for entertaining friends and having company over for extended stays. "My" side of the house is self-contained with its own door out to the lanai and pool, and private entrance through my office off of the front courtyard. In other words, you can be a guest at my residence and almost never run into me (if that is your preference), or I can be as available as my schedule allows to answer questions or offer suggestions.

This is a non-smoking residence, please respect that.

Interaction with Guests

We are happy to act as a bit of a "concierge" and offer suggestions for your stay, or be as "absent" and invisible as you may prefer.

  • Dr. Keith and Susan were the most perfect and accommodating hosts even sharing a bottle of wine our first night there. They live in a lovely home that is warm, welcoming and comfortable. The room we stayed in was great, with a walk-in shower and plenty of space. We highly recommend staying with Dr. Keith and Susan!

  • This place is to die for. I had the best time with Dr. Keith and Susan. They are warm-hearted, open-minded and ready to help coupled with a great sense of humour: just lovely. They went way above and beyond making me feel totally at home the moment I walked through the door.
I enjoyed my own room in a private wing, including a tv set and a clean private bathroom. The common living room is spacious. The pool area is just terrific!
I highly recommend Dr. Keith and Susan’s place and I’m so looking forward to hopefully staying there in the future again.

  • I wish we could have stayed longer with Keith and Susan. They were so welcoming and helpful and they made sure we felt at ease in their lovely home, the photos do not do it justice. We hope to return one day, the beaches were glorious.

  • i had really good time there. Dr.Keith and Susan both of them are really good and let us stay there as it is our home. Their neighborhood is also good and quiet, so I could feel safe while staying there. Susan was so nice to use her seasonings as well as her lovely/spacious kitchen.

Their house is spacious. And they are so good and at the same time, they respect our privacy. I highly recommend you to stay here, and I will definitely stay here again if I have a chance!!

  • Despite cutting my stay short due to poor weather I truly enjoyed my stay with Dr. Keith and Susan. They are both very accommodating and friendly. The house itself is a beauty enhanced by one of the sweetest backyard pools imaginable. I would certainly recommend this residence as a great place to stay in the Treasure Coast area.

  • The most wonderful place and people. We stayed with Dr. Keith and Susan for 5 days and totally enjoyed the place, the hospitality and the environment. One member of our group is wheelchair-bound and it was the most comfortable, accessible house we could ever find. The gorgeous pool, the roll-in shower and the entire house is perfect, and we are coming back for sure. The house is close to everything, the hosts are warm and friendly, the price is reasonable. Thank you for both of you. Steven, Michael, Joseph, Emilia

  • Dr. Keith and Susan couldn't have been better hosts. We absolutely enjoyed our time at their lovely home. The home was as it is pictured in the listing. Keith is very knowledgeable of the area. The pool is beautiful ! We arrived as strangers, but most definitely left as friends. This was our first experience with airbnb and it was definitely positive. We enjoyed the easy access for cycling to downtown riverside Sebastian. The ocean was only seven minutes from the house. We will definitely plan another trip to their lovely Sebastian home.

  • Keith and Susan's place was perfect, just what we needed for our business trip. Spacious
extremely clean, comfortable and inexpensive plus plenty of privacy, Just wish I had had more time to lounge around the inviting pool which is a true tropical oasis, complete with waterfall and a cave with speakers which sadly I did not get to experience. Would most certainly stay again, Dr. Keith is super friendly and very knowledgable about the area and Susan makes great coffee in the morning!

Among several other things, Dr. Keith is a semi-retired Vacation Property manager & "Concierge", and Susan is a dream come true! We enjoy travel, entertaining, meeting people, and because of this became involved with AIRBNB July 2012. It has been a wonderful experience. We have enjoyed the company and experience brought by every guest who has stayed at our home (some of which have already returned, and others plan to). You might begin your stay as a guest, but we shall part as friends! We absolutely love Florida and the water! Dr. Keith grew up surfing, sailing and SCUBA diving in Southern California. He spent some time living in Hawai'i studying with Kahunas, and relocated to Florida for the weather, water, and lifestyle. When not home in FLA we travel "Down-Island" and visit a variety of dive destinations (sometimes via cruise ship). When at home in FL we spend a great deal of time outdoors and often on a boat. We enjoy food...dining-out or cooking at home with friends. Generally living an active and healthy lifestyle. We enjoy a wide range of music, and often have something playing in the background. Because we are outdoorsy, we are also a morning people, and generally in bed by 10 or 11 (unless something interesting is going on). Part of the design of our Sebastian home allows people on different schedules to co-exist without adversely affecting one another. You have to put a real effort into having someone on the other side of the house hear you if the doors are closed. In our Sebastian home we have 2 guest rooms, so we can have larger parties stay over, and in a pinch even include the sleeper sofa in the front room if needed (like during fishing tournaments or skydiving gatherings). In our Hutchinson Island ocean front condo (Fort Pierce, south of the inlet) we have two bedrooms, two baths, and a private lanai. The condo complex is ocean front, however we do not have an ocean view from our unit. It does have a nice waterfront view from our private lanai overlooking one of the many small lakes/ponds with a beautiful fountain in the complex. There is also a restaurant, tiki bar, executive golf course, tennis, easy access to over 1/2 mile of semi-private beach, several pools and fitness room on site at the complex. Airbnb has been a nice way to meet new people and share our love and knowledge of the area with people, while allowing them the opportunity to travel and visit this area at an affordable rate. We can be as "invisible" or present as guests may like (schedules permitting). While we genuinely love people, we don't feel a full-time roommate would be a good fit for us, so Airbnb allows us to share our wonderful home occasionally, yet afford us our own privacy the remainder of the time. You no doubt noticed our mention of wheelchair accessibility. Dr. Keith is in a wheelchair from an accident at the beach in 1983. Some of Dr. Keith's other activities include being FL building contractor, and has been a college speech professor in CA. We also volunteer time to disabled SCUBA diving and boating programs. If you have further questions please ask. We look forward to chatting with you!
