Unique hand-built Lodge and environmental retreat on 8 private acres of Blue Mountains wilderness. The Cave is 20 metres high, wide and deep; similar size and shape to a small shell of the Opera house (with better acoustics!) 3 night min LongWeekEnds

The space

Hatter's Hideout transects a deep mountain gorge, with lush cool temperate rainforest to natural bonsai in wind swept heath; to woodland with panoramic views across Mount Wilson and Wollemi National Park, the World Heritage Area and home of the prehistoric wollemi pine.

THE CAVE

Set amidst towering escarpments, the Hat Cave is a huge sandstone cathedral, sculpted by nature to provide an ideal bushland retreat for modern cave dwellers (troglodytes). The natural acoustics are a musicians dream.

It has been carefully developed using minimal impact construction and facilities to ensure the environment remains as pristine as possible for future generations to enjoy.

FACILITIES

Camp fire with kindling and 20kg wood. Gas barbecue; ice box; tables and chairs. Solar powered lights for reading, cooking etc.; candles for intimacy. Rainwater on tap for cooking and washing up. Kitchen sink, utensils and basic cooking condiments. Composting toilet. First Aid Kit.

The 25 metre high arched opening faces north west with wind and weather protection by a grove of coachwood trees and 30 metre tall carved rock columns known locally as "pagodas", a predominant feature in the primitive landscape.

LODGE

A spacious mountain lodge with 3 Bedrooms and Loft, hand crafted in a classic Australian style featuring artistic decor and views over the spectacular Wollangambe Wilderness and Wollemi World Heritage Area from most rooms.

BOOKINGS INCLUDE

An interpretive “Bush Walk & Talk” to the Cave, to introduce you to the environs, facilities and “minimal impact” philosophy of Hatters Hideout.

Exclusive use of the lodge that sleeps 8 adults in 3 king bedrooms (or 1 king and 2 twin) plus a large loft with 2 "king single" beds. There are 2 lounge rooms, 2 bathrooms, well-equipped kitchen, wilderness views and a 4+ star luxury rating.

Private use of the Cave, which is a 10 minute / 500 metre walk. It is well equipped for a group picnic or party and can sleep in natural luxury with camping gear provided, but you would need to be keen campers in the winter months... gas for the BBQ and 20kg of firewood for the campfire are provided.

RATES
The lodge sleeps up to 8 people
WEEKENDS ~ $690 for 2 people for 2 nights (+ $55 extra adult per night)
LONG WEEKENDS ~ $1200 for 2 people for 3 nights (+$65 extra adult per night)

MID WEEK ~ $495 for 2 people for 2 nights (+ $55 extra adult per night)

It is ideally designed for groups of up to 20 (some may camp in the cave!) to have exclusive use of a unique bushland property with outstanding natural facilities.

Packages can range from self-cater to fully catered with environmental tours, rocksports and cultural performances.

Guest access

Guests have exclusive use of the Cave and Lodge

Interaction with guests

Mark lives on the same property in a separate house. After a guided "Walk & Talk" he will leave you very much alone unless you need him for advice, repairs, cup of sugar etc.

Other things to note

At 1111 metres altitude, remember "if you don't like the weather up here; wait a minute" so bring warm clothes even in summer

This place defies any expectations. The photos don't do it justice. This is the most well thought through place I've ever had the joy of staying at and I will be singing it's praises to any one I meet looking for an adventure for the rest of my days. Worth every single cent.

A gem not too far from Sydney but just far enough to feel you've left the city behind. Very unique & speacil the cave is as amazing as it looks. In the cave you can have an open fire even sleep in it or stay at "the lodge" which is a beautiful house all of which is for your exclusive use. So relaxing & (URL HIDDEN) soon as you arrive you unwind. This place is private perfect for couples, families as well as suitable for larger groups. BEDS SO COMFORTABLE ! Plenty of everything you will need for longer stays everything is well thought out & convenient... Thank you Mark

Thank you Mark. Such a beautiful unique experience but felt like I was walking into my grandparents home, so welcoming. We all walked away saying what a great couple of days. Your knowledge of the local area was awesome. Don't think you missed a thing. We forgot ice shopping but went home to find a bag of ice in the freezer. Thanks again :)

We really enjoyed our stay. We had 20+ guests celebrating a 30th birthday. Mark was very helpful and friendly, the facilities were better than advertised, the cave was a great venue to have a party.
