About this listing

Dar Rbab is a 300 year old house in the heart of the walled medina of Fes. We have four rooms available, hence the other listings under Dar Rbab. This one is named after the Indian silk bedspread.

The room has a double bed and a separate single bed, so will sleep three people. There's a private, en suite bathroom down a short flight of stairs; it's a traditional hammam style, with tadelekt walls - basically a wet room.

The space

Dar Rbab is a 300 year old house in the heart of the walled medina of Fes. We have four rooms available, hence the other listings under Dar Rbab. This one is named after the Indian silk bedspread.

We aren't running a maison d'hote or hotel; Dar Rbab is sometimes a family home to myself, my wife Ghizlane (who is Moroccan) and our two young daughters. When we are away, the house is run by S'Mohamed and our housekeeper, Aicha.

The house is in the region of 300 years old, and has all the features associated with historic houses in Fes. The centre of the two storey building is a courtyard, with pillars supporting balconies at the first floor. Access to all the principal rooms is by massive sets of cedarwood double doors, elaborately decorated and gilded on their inner sides.

The ground floor has a comfortable salon, courtyard and fitted kitchen.

Families with children are welcome.

We part own a Moroccan Tourist Transport company and are happy to provide quotes to take you on into the Atlas, the Sahara, the Rif, Marrakech and Essaouira. Rates start at 120 euros per day for an air conditioned 4x4/SUV, fuel, and an English speaking driver/guide.

Guest access

Guests have access to a comfortable salon on the ground floor, spacious courtyard and a wide balcony on the upper floor.

Interaction with guests

S'Mohamed, our house manager, is on hand to help guests with meals, transfers, taxis, guides, day trips, and anything else you can imagine!

The neighborhood

Bab Boujiloud is a short walk or taxi ride away and has a great selection of cafés and street food.

Nearby, opposite the entrance to the beautiful Jnan Sybil gardens, is Mezzanine, a stylish bar restaurant with reasonably priced food and local beers and wine. Try the bissara soup for 3 euros.

Getting around

Petit taxis are the small red taxis. They will take you almost anywhere in Fes (except the airport) for around 2 euros (20dhs)

House Rules
Not suitable for pets
May not be safe or suitable for infants (Under 2 years)
Check-in is after 1PM

Our only rule is never to make any rules... but we would prefer it if you didn't smoke in the bedrooms.

Please note that Dar Rbab is a 300 year old building, with steep and winding staircases. A certain degree of physical dexterity is required.

Please do not leave cash or valuables in the rooms.

As the room is air conditioned we'd also ask you to be energy conscious and turn the AC off when you leave the room, and to close the doors and windows when the AC is running. Electricity is hugely expensive in Morocco - and we only have one planet...

I've been in Morocco since 1999. I run a small specialist travel agency and regularly lead trips through the Sahara and the Atlas mountains.

I'm British, and speak English, French and the local Arabic dialect.

I adore travel, food, and culture. Dar Rbab was my home and I hope my guests enjoy this beautiful old house as much as I do.
