This private home is located in the prestiges neighborhood of Joatinga which is considered the Beverly Hills of Rio. It is a gated, 24 hour security neighborhood with it's own beach.
The Beach is known as a surfers beach because of the great waves. Depending on the time of the year there is also little to no sand but this is usually in our winter months and short lived. Also you should be in pretty good shape to get to this beach. Although it has a clear paved path it is down the side of a rock mountain. I have no problem to take my 7 year old daughter with me but for those who are older and in less shape I like to let you know.
The house sits on the side of the mountain in the jungle where you will live harmoniously in nature with the monkeys, toucans and other rain forest life. Your view will be of the very famous Pedra da Gavea mountain. Quite spectacular!
The house was build by the famous Brazilian Architect Zanini who was ahead of his time using mainly recycled demolition wood and other materials. Most of the furniture and furnishings were all imported from Bali, India and other parts of Asia. You will feel like you have stepped into a tropical paradise retreat.

TV's located in the master bedroom, Bedroom#3, guest suit, kitchen and the home theater on the 3rd level.
The house is simple and rustic, yet has everything you will need to feel at home.
We also provide you with our full time house keeper/employee on a daily basis. His schedule is usually from 9-5 M-F and some times on Sat if needed.
It is a truly special place.
You have Public buses that run right outside the gates of the neighborhood. They will take you to almost anywhere you want to go. Also they have been working to extend the metro to our area and they say it will be done in time for the Olympics in 2016. You also have a taxi stand just an 8 min walk away and can have JK(the care taker) call one to pick you up from the house and usually take only 5 min.
You are walking distance(8 min down a hill, and not always a clear side walk but totally doable, I do it everyday as do most people that work or live in the area that do not have cars) to most everything you will need or want.
The Olympics -
$1,200 a day for up to 6 people

Sherri was an amazing host. Great communication, very responsive, and her home was just as advertised. The location is great, a short walk to a lovely beach, and pretty easy access to the rest of Rio. A bus stops only a few meters from the front door which takes you to Leblon, Ipanema, and Copacabana. A short drive down the hill gets you to a supermarket, bakery, bars and restaurants.
All in all, we wouldn't hesitate to go back.
Beautiful house in great location. Super clean. Great interior decoration.
A very nice apartment in a great neighbourhood! We had a large group, up to 11 at one point, but Sherri made it very easy for us and was extremely helpful in showing the local area and accommodating us.
The house was perfectly situated near Rio and the frequent buses meant it was a breeze to travel anywhere. One on the stand out points of the house is the monkeys that come and sit on the porch in the morning!
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending staying here if you are visiting Rio!
We loved Sherri and Andre's home. It was the perfect place for our family reunion. Plenty of space! Everyone was happy and comfortable. Sherri and Andre were very accommodating of our special needs and JK was very attentive. Breakfast on the veranda was sooooo good. The location was perfect and Joatinga beach very special. I will miss this place so much!
We stayed at Sherri's and Andre's house for a total of ten nights and eleven days for the Rio+20 conference and I have nothing but great things to say about our very gracious, generous and amazing hosts.
First and foremost, the house was really charming, spacious and spotless! The Gavea mountain is practically your backyard and it's a lovely sight to see to start your day. There are three full bathrooms and two half-bathrooms which was very convenient. and really nice to have especially if you have three to four people in the house. They also had adapters all over the house so it was easy to plug in with our US gadgets. Sherri was also there the first day I arrived to show me around the house and a quick tour of the neighborhood.
Second, Sherri and Andre were very helpful in helping us sort our transportation. We very much appreciated their quick responses to our requests and also their flexibility given that we had to make some last minute changes more frequently than we expected. We enjoyed our car conversations with Domenico, the Italian tour guide who speaks Portuguese with his lovely Italian accent, and eventually Andre who had the unfortunate task of being the default driver - first because he also had an exhibit in Riocentro and second because he had a car pass! Andre was very patient and thorough in answering all our random questions about Brazil. also, I was on the phone with Sherri, almost everyday, to sort through the details, which we appreciated very much.
Third, there's JK, their amazing housekeeper. He kept the house spotless and he was there everyday, very early in the morning. He would have the breakfast ready long before we're all dressed and he always greeted everybody with a big smile. He was also a great cook and made us dinner a few times. He doesn't speak English and we don't speak Portuguese but he was very patient in trying to understand us. We also had daily (website hidden) translate conversations which were very fun!
There is so much more to write but all in all, it was an amazing stay. When we rented the house, we didn't think it would come with all the perks - including an invitation to the e-institute reception which was so much fun - that we had during our stay. It's close to the Barra da Tijuca beaches and not that far at all from Ipanema. I would highly recommend staying at Sherr's and Andre's house! You will most certainly enjoy it.

Hello, I am an American married to a Brazilian living mainly here in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. My husband, Andre, and I have an amazing 5 year old daughter who is our everything.
I first came to Rio in 2003 for work in the Fashion industry. It just so happened my now husband was my then agent. He showed me the local style of Rio and I instantly feel in love. Well, at first with the City and the country and later him. : )
I currently have a business teaching english conversation to kids while doing all kinds of American crafts, games, theater, and cooking. I am also starting a professional organizing service as well. My husband(Andre) has his own company for 18 years Importing and Exporting here in Rio.
Andre, is a huge water guy, he surfs stand-up, Kite and short board. He is a triathlete. Needless to say we spend most of our time outside, at the beach or around the beach life style. I on the other hand, love Yoga, meditation, cooking, gardening, a good book, dance, good wine, fashion, interior design and most of all travel!
We are fortunate to be a family that travels internationally many times each year. My daughter is already bilingual and working on her third language, (mandrin). We spend most of our time here in Rio but also travel to the US, mainly St. Louis Missouri(where my family lives) and in Los Angeles (where I lived for 20 years). We also travel to Asia regularly and plan to live there for 3 months this year.
In one of my many past careers I was a professional Dancer and had the good fortune of working for a famous band. I traveled all over the world for 5 years. It was a special time and an honer and a pleasure to have the experience of knowing so many incredible placed and people. It would be very hard to pick one but I must say the Magical Island of Bali is my all time favorite. I am already planning our family trip around the world when my daughter turns 10.
We hope to see you here in Rio Soon
Peace and Blessings,
Sherri, Andre and Bella
