  • I really wanted to love this place. The space is beautiful but I'm afraid it wasn't very clean or comfortable. The place advertised that there was air conditioning in the bedrooms but we were never able to get the temperature lower than 83 degrees. It made for very uncomfortable sleeping. One of the bedrooms had a very uncomfortable bed and the floors were so dirty that when I walked around barefoot the soles of my feet were black. The faucet in the kitchen was sticky. On the surface this place looks beautiful but we did not have a very comfortable time.

  • We really enjoyed staying at Shell's place. It was an awesome respite from the streets of Old San Juan. We loved how close it is to everything. We also loved how it became "home away from home". We explored all day and could come back and open the windows and relax without feeling like we were missing out on the experience. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place.

Sidenote: Shell has an appreciate and skill for interior design. I thumbed through the decorating books on hand which included Domino, The Things That Matter, and The Encyclopedia of Feng Shui. These books, Shell's apartment, and the streets and vibrant culture of Old San Juan have me inspired!

  • I agree with everyone's assessment of Shell's place. It is lovely, spacious, centrally located, well-equipped, reasonably priced. In short, I have no complaints, except for the lack of hot water.

  • Sheels loft was a very cozy apartment. It has a very old school and rustic feel to it. It had a lot of character and a great view of old town San Juan. If you want to experience old town life, I would highly recommend this place. If you want to stay luxuriously in high powered air conditions and watch TV, this is not a place for you!

  • Overall we had a great trip. The location was great but there were some issues we felt should not have happened given the rate we were paying. If you are a picky traveler I might consider another rental in this area.

    Positives:
    - location is excellent
    - host was very communicative and helpful during checkin
    - little amenities like coffee, umbrella and ponchos were left for us

    Negatives:
    - water would routinely shutoff after 8 or 9 pm
    - we did not have hot water at any point during our trip
    - apartment never got below 80 degrees, even with fans and portable a/c going

  • Shell's place is amazing! Very cute place, very comfortable and in an excellent location. Few blocks away from the fortress, the cathedral and the locals' night life. Grocery store, cafes and restaurants, all about two blocks away. Eva was so nice and helpful telling us where to go and where not to, and all the things we could enjoy nearby. We had a wonderful time there, and are very sad we had to leave. Definitely coming back the next time we're in OSJ!

  • Shell and her mom Eva were great to work with. They answered every e-mail, text and phone call immediately. The apartment was exactly as described. Eva (Shell's mom) was there to greet us when we arrived. She made sure everything was well stocked and in working order. Water pressure was good. Air conditioning in the bedrooms was good. It was everything you'd expect from an apartment in a city like Old San Juan. The bedrooms comfortably sleep 4 (two in each room). There is a pull out couch for remaining guests. It is in the only living area of the apartment, so keep this in mind if you are more than 4 people.

The wrap around outdoor balcony was awesome and probably my favorite part of the entire apartment. Being on the 4th floor, it has great

Location was perfect, easy to walk around all of Old San Juan. (parking is definitely challenging there, be prepared to hunt for a spot!) There is a wonderful little cafe and bar caddy corner from the apartment. Made for a quick and easy dinner as we arrived late the first night.

I'd highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to experience true Old San Juan.

  • We had a wonderful time in PR. This place was clean and located at the heart of San Juan old town. Quite a lot of things within walking distance - restaurants, bars, grocery store, pier, forts, etc. We rented a car - not necessary if you are planning to stay just in Old Town. We were able to find street parking but it would take a little bit of time to find one. Also there is a paid parking lot within few blocks.

  • We LOVED our stay here (April 10-15 2013). Eva was so sweet, giving us tips on nearby activities, new restaurants (waffle-era is a must!). The apartment was perfectly located, very comfortable, and very clean. Kitchen had everything we needed. No TV which was really nice. A short walk to everything in Old San Juan. Apartment is a third floor walk up. We felt very safe. We rented a car for the weekend (highly recommend so you can explore PR i.e. Isla Verda Beach, Farjardo, Luquillo, El Yunque) and had no trouble finding parking after a couple minutes. I would recommend this apt to anyone.

  • We had a lovely stay at Shell's place. The apartment is as gorgeous as the photos. And the manager, Eva, is fabulous. She went out of her way to make sure that we had everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again if we come through San Juan.

About
I found this massive loft 2 years ago through a friend. So excited to find such an extremely rare space I signed a lease and moved in immediately before I even new what to do with it. Flash forward 2 years and I now find myself living with a Zimbabwean film producer running a communal share house aka (mini Bed & Breakfast) out of my loft. Rita (Zim film producer) and I met when she stayed at my loft for 2 weeks while looking for permanent accommodations in New York. Those permanent accommodations turned out to be at my loft where she’s become co-host to our house of international guests and the occasional Aussie refugee. My obsession with collecting mid-century furniture and flea market gems has hopefully made each of our three guest rooms as well as the rest of the loft a unique and comfortable space for our guests to call home. We recently starting a new tradition of cooking brunch every Sunday with our guests and friends. I’ve taken all the cooking lessons I fought my mother over as a youth, combined them with some new tricks to make them healthier and this has created the template for our brunch menu. Add guest contributions like orange flour-less cake from the Aussie Master chef contestant who stayed with us recently, or authentic Italian homemade pasta from the Milano girls. Food, and an international modge-podge of friendly folks discussing life from around the globe have made Sundays the most anticipated day of the week. Turning my loft into a communal space to be shared with travelers who become friends has been the most positively life altering decision I’ve ever made. With each passing person the experience gets exponentially greater. As characters in a great novel each guest who stays seems to unfold a little more of the story. I can’t ask for a better life. Rita and I look forward to meeting you soon.
