About This Listing
Come rest and relax in the oldest house (circa1778) in Gilford, NH after your day full of adventure and exploration. The house is situated on 25 acres of pristine land with woodland walking/X-country skiing/snowshoeing trails to a beautiful trout pond. I have a lovely backyard and gardens and pleasant common areas in the house. There are many local attractions as well as easy access to the Lakes and Mountains of NH for year round fun.
Your room includes a private bath with claw foot tub with shower, (be careful getting in and out of the tub) double bed, and closet but no TV, phone or internet... a true disconnect.
A private sitting room, with a comfortable sofa (not a pull out) for a third person, is available to you. If you want to cook the kitchen is well equipped with all the basics and is pleasant to cook, eat and visit in. You are welcome to bring provisions, there is always room in the fridge. I don't provide food but will share spices and condiments.
There is ample parking and room in the garage for ski equipment or motorcycles.
I have three great cats, Pearl you may hardly see and Yardley and Leroy who will both want to be your best friend. If you are allergic to cats please consider this before booking with me. They may try to convince you they are outdoor cats but don't listen, just say "NO".
So, please come and enjoy Central NH and all it has to offer.
Spring is here and brings something special to the air and there is always something going on every week throughout the state. Ski season is almost over but still lots of snow and I am only six miles from Gunstock and 45 minutes from Ragged or Waterville. Make your reservation, then come make a memory. My house is a great base camp for whatever activities you choose. I hope to meet you soon!
PS: If I'm booked let me recommend Marianne's apartment in Laconia, NH. It's a great location and she's a wonderful host.
Interaction with Guests
We can interact as much as time and desire allow.
The neighborhood is very rural. It is mostly wooded with large fields here and there and the Belknap Mountain Range is the backdrop. From my house you cannot see any neighboring homes but often see neighbors out walking.
There is no public transportation and very limited taxi service in Central NH.

This was my third stay in this room, and I look forward to staying here again in the future. It's really more than a room: it's a very nice suite, with a bedroom, a bathroom with old-fashioned soaking tub, and a sitting room. My previous stays were in colder seasons, so this was the first time I got to enjoy the lovely grounds. I ate my supper at a little table under a big maple tree, with the songs of birds and the peeping of frogs for music. As always, Laurie was very friendly and welcoming. She even showed me a birds' nest with babies inside; we watched the parents flying around, catching insects to feed their little ones. As on my previous stays, the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, just what I needed to unwind after a very busy weekend.
I really enjoyed staying with Laurie, she's very relaxed. Its a great little cottage in a fantastic spot. Would recommend a hike up Belknap mountain while you're there.
Lovely home filled with wonderful family antiques and wood floors throughout. Very comfortable bed in an historic house in rural NH. Laurie Is a gracious host - even met me for dinner at a local restaurant. I felt like a new friend in her home.
Laurie was a wonderful host. I stayed at her house in Guilford with two of my friends and we all had a very pleasant experience. We arrived late but Laurie stayed up to greet us show us our rooms. The house is beautiful and it was warm despite the sub-zero tempatures outside. The private bath and the sitting room with the couch are both connected directly to the bedroom, which was convenient. I slept on the couch in the sitting room and was very comfortable - even though it doesn't fold out into a bed, it is very spacious.
In the morning Laurie helped us find a place to have brunch (Kitchen Cravings - go there, it's amazing!) and chatted with us a bit before we all went our separate ways. This was my first experience staying with a host through Airbnb - I previously only rented a full apartment - and Laurie made me and my friends feel very comfortable and welcome. She was attentive and friendly but also gave us our privacy when we wanted it. I would definitely stay with her again.
Oh, and as others have said, her cats are great! One of them really likes to hang out with guests, so be prepared.
What a delightful old country home! The house in on a back road in the woods so it was quiet and peaceful. Laurie was a very thoughtful host and made sure we had everything we needed. Comfortable room and bath with a nice view of the woods (and gardens in the summer I would assume).
Laurie was great. Very relaxed environment in her home with all sorts of plants and unique stuff. Her cat was the coolest cats I've ever hung out with. Laurie-Im coming back to steal your cat!

About the Host, Laurie
I'm a down to earth, nature loving, happy to share my home type person. I might cook for you, I garden regularly, enjoy quiet time, wine with friends, the outdoors, horsebackriding, skiing, snowshoeing, the lake and life in general. Having lived here most of my life I'm familiar with how to get places, better restaurants and fun stuff to see and do. When I get a chance to go away for a couple days I Iove the Pearl by the Sea in Old Orchard Beach, ME.
Meanwhile I'm looking forward to meeting you.
