About this listing
Comfortable old house in a beautiful rural setting where me and my 3 cats, as well as a myriad of wildlife, call home.
Come rest and relax in an old house (circa1778) in Gilford, NH after your day full of adventure and exploration. The house is situated on 25 acres of pristine land with woodland walking/X-country skiing/snowshoeing trails to a beautiful trout pond. I have a lovely backyard and gardens and pleasant common areas in the house. There are many local attractions as well as easy access to the Lakes and Mountains of NH for year round fun.
Your room includes a private bath with claw foot tub with shower, (be careful getting in and out of the tub) double bed, and closet but no TV, phone or WiFi... a true disconnect.
A private sitting room, with a comfortable sofa (not a pull out) for a third person, is available to you.
There is ample parking and room in the garage for ski equipment or motorcycles.
I have three great cats, Pearl you may hardly see and Yardley and Leroy who will both want to be your best friend. If you are allergic to cats please consider this before booking with me. They may try to convince you they are outdoor cats but don't listen, just say "NO".
So, please come and enjoy Central NH and all it has to offer.
Summer is here and there is always something going on every week throughout the state. Make your reservation, then come make a memory. My house is a great base camp for whatever activities you choose. I hope to meet you soon!
PS: If I'm booked let me recommend Marianne's apartment in Laconia, NH. It's a great location and she's a wonderful host.
Interaction with Guests
We can interact as much as time and desire allow.
The neighborhood is very rural. It is mostly wooded with large fields here and there and the Belknap Mountain Range is the backdrop. From my house you cannot see any neighboring homes but often see neighbors out walking.
There is no public transportation and very limited taxi service in Central NH.
1. do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
2. smoke outside
3. don't let the cats out or feed them any people food
4. recycle all recyclables and compost compostables
5. have a great time!
6. please don't touch the woodstoves no matter how compelled you may feel to do it
7. I'm sorry, but do not bring your dog
This was my first experience using Airbnb. It could not have been better. Laurie was the perfect host and immediately made us feel welcome. Her home is beautiful and not far from many activities. We stayed two nights and had some nice talks with Laurie and did some good biking and swimming nearby. I would absolutely recommend staying here. U.S., the price was quite reasonable.
Laurie was very accommodating with our arrival time and so welcoming and warm when we arrived. She showed us through her beautiful, historic home to the bedroom suite. It was breathtaking - from the view out the window to the minutest of details. My husband immediately went outside to one of the chairs among one of the pretty groups of perennials under a large tree, faced the scenic woods-ringed field in the backyard, and enjoyed his lunch. Such a serene place to unplug and unwind! It was obvious Laurie enjoys hosting, and is concerned about the comfort of her guests. I must add, her cats added another dimension entirely to the stay. We took a shine to Leroy in particular - you'd think he knew he was hosting, the way he escorted us around and kept us cuddly company as we lounged. We'd definitely book with Laurie again, and certainly recommend her to anyone else considering a stay in the Gilford area.
Laurie is a lovely and warm host. She really shares her beautiful home with her guests and obviously trusts her visitors. We only had one night in Gilford but really felt at home. Also her three feline companions are fun to have around.
The drive to Laurie's place was great and the reception just as good. The house is spotless, you would never know three cats lived there! We arrived in the evening and departed early the next morning after a long motorcycle ride. Laurie gave us our privacy understood when we went to bed early...a great host with a lovely home. I encourage any of you to book a night or two.
We had a great night, beautiful house and property. Everything is as described, very clean. The kitties add charm, to a perfect mountain get-away. Great hiking just a few miles away, we will be staying again. Hostess is fantastic and will make you feel at home!

About the Host, Laurie
I'm a down to earth, nature loving, happy to share my home type person. I garden regularly, enjoy quiet time, wine with friends, the outdoors, horsemanship, skiing, snowshoeing, the lake and life in general. Having lived here most of my life I'm familiar with how to get places, better restaurants and fun stuff to see and do. When I get a chance to go away for a couple days I Iove the Pearl by the Sea in Old Orchard Beach, ME.
Meanwhile I'm looking forward to meeting you.
