  • This was the first time using Airbnb, and we had no hassles what so ever. I only contacted JoAnne via messages on the Airbnb website, and she was very timely and helpful in her responses.

OD2F is in a great location (a short walk to Wrigley Field) and was as advertised. It was clean and comfy, and has central air conditioning!

I would definitely recommend OD2F to friends looking to stay in the area.

  • Very good location to explore the city and plenty parking places around the house. Spacy rooms and tidy beds. Convenient living room and the kitchen. The furniture and fixture are a bit old but stylish. The air conditioning did not work but was fixed next day. JoAnne is a very helpful lady.

    Thank you very much!

  • This was our third use of Airbnb and our first in which the only contact with the host was through e-mail. A bit disconcerting at first, since we met the hosts of first two stays at the time we arrived. But in the end, things worked out fine, with one small lingering nag.

JoAnne asked us a few weeks before our stay if we could switch to another unit in the same building. No problem there. When we arrived on Friday, the place was as advertised, clean and comfortable. I sent an Airbnb message to JoAnne telling her things were good and she replied quickly to affirm and said to "please call me'' if we needed anything.

One small issue emerged: a broken flapper in one of the toilets, which meant we had to reach into the fill basin (the one on the wall, not the bowl) to make it flush. I relayed the matter to JoAnne in a VM on Saturday. By the time we left on Monday, I had not heard from her. There was no sign of repair done while we were out. So we rigged up something to make it work. Just seemed odd to not get a reply after being told to use the phone to relay any concerns.

Having said all that, I would rate our overall experience a success. We were a block from a grocery store and just a short walk from where my daughter rents an apartment. Laundry on-site proved handy. It was great for two adult couples to each have an upstairs bathroom near the bedrooms. Convenience was first-rate. Neighborhood is terrific. The toilet thing would not keep me from considering one of JoAnne's properties again.

  • We had a very positive experience staying at OD2F. The location is excellent for exploring the city (we used local buses)! Within walking distance is a grocery store, fun shops, and more restaurants and bars than you can even think about visiting.

JoAnne was very accommodating to us during our stay. Though we never saw her (or anyone else) during the stay she was nice and helpful. The few problems we did have were attended to swiftly and appropriately. She also worked with our travel schedule and allowed us extra time we (email hidden) since it was not immediately rented out before or after us.

So why only 4 stars? There are a lot of little things about the place that need to be attended to and updated/fixed. It appeared to us that the property had not been used in some time and had not been closely examined before our stay. I won't list those in this review because we had a positive stay. I will share them with the owner privately and am happy to share them with anyone else via private message.

To close, we were happy and had a great week in Chicago! Thanks!

  • We got a chance to stay in Joannes apartment because we made a very late booking. And it was great to stay there! Easy access to different transportation possibilities and a nice and big supermarket around the corner. Great kitchen, great living room, great bathrooms, great bedrooms and central aircon.

  • We rented this duplex to attend a family wedding in the neighborhood. The location was excellent for us. We were able to host relatives for snacks and conversation between the wedding and reception, and we could walk to nearby groceries, restaurants, coffee shops and bars.

Joanne and Steve were there when we arrived, cleaning the place for us, and they showed us around. The master bedroom ceiling has some water damage from a roof leak. The leak's been repaired, but the wall still needs some new paint. One of the neighbors asked us one day how we were getting along with 'that hole in the roof'. There's also a leaky faucet in the upstairs bathroom, so Vera suggested to Steve that he add that to his 'job jar'. Joanne and Steve are friendly and attentive.

We called them about the hot water temperature and they were there to adjust the water heater almost immediately.

The central airconditioning was much appreciated. The kitchen is well equipped, but we'd have liked to have a better coffee maker available. There's an electric espresso maker. It would have been nice to have a simple carafe with some filters.

This was our first experience with airbnb, and it was a good one.
