The room has an amazing view on mount Etna, it is in the most ancient Palace of Catania dating 1600. It is very quiet but please consider that there are many steps to get there, 118 from the road level. You are in the heart of ancient Catania.
I am a sicilian tour guide and I have an extra bed room in my apartment. It is in a 1600 palace in the historical centre of Catania. It was my daughter's bed room and it has an elevated bed to be reached with a ladder. From the window you have a beautiful view of Mount Etna and there is a terrace from where you dominate the whole Catania and you can see as far as Syracuse in the clear days. You are at a walking distance from all the important places and monuments of Catania and the railway station. It is important to know that being an historical palace there is no lift and there are many steps to the room (118)The room is ideal for young people but not suitable for who has walking problems
IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THERE ARE PLENTY OF RESTAURANTS, PIZZERIA, PUBS AND THEATRES.
The shopping area is five minutes walk from here
We are very close to the bus terminal
What is unique in my apartment is that the first level is quite ancient with stuccos and large living rooms of 1800 while the second level is quite modern. The view is unique as well as we dominate the whole city.
The guests will have access to the terrace and also to a little kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
Due to my job I will often be out but it happens that in the evening I have time to share some nice time on the terrace with a glass of wine or a cold bear, facing Mt Etna and the sea
The neighborhood is full of interesting things to do. All monuments, churches, sites of interests are at walking distance, you do not need the car. Plenty of pubs, restaurants, pizza places etc...
All public transportations are at walking distance from here. No great problems to park a car but you better ask me where is safe and I will show you.
Other Things to Note
Catania è la città più baricentri ai vari siti di interesse storico/culturale della Sicilia. Da qui ci si può spostare senza problemi in giornata a Taormina, Siracusa, Piazza Armerina, Etna, Messina, Ragusa etc..
My guests have to love animals as I have two dogs and two cats, and a gold fish. They are not allowed in the room but of course they live in the apartment therefore it happens that you meet them. No smoking in the room. No other people are admitted unless you ask to have friends coming to meet you.
I am 47 years old. I was travelling alone. I stayed 2 nights.
I liked the place very much. The room itself is built into the roof of an 18th century palace right in the middle of the historic town center. Through the window you can see across the roofs of the town with a stunning view on mount Etna. The room is very private. Other rooms which are really used in the same huge flat are at least two floors downstairs (within the same flat). You will have a kitchen all for yourself. The bed is very comfortable. I slept very well. The standard of the room is comparable to a student accommodation although there is no real desk or comfortable chair, but a small fridge is available, directly in the room. Since this was my first time in Sicily I couldn't get enough of the incredible view from the terrace, which feels like your private terrace, because you reach it directly from your room.
If you like you can play with Ester's very friendly dogs and cats on the terrace for hours.
The Location was perfect for me. A bus stop of the Alibus (shuttle bus to the airport) is just 200 meters away. A big supermarket is 10 minutes away. I found a (gran ma) home cooking style bar, which sold new delicious take away lunch boxes for 3 Euro every day, just behind the Alibus bus top.
The place is popular within locals, a good sign for high quality and good value for money.
I enjoyed the lunch boxes at Esther's terrace.
Several amazing bakeries are less than 5 walking minutes away. I didn't need a car at all. The bus terminus and the train station are about 15 minutes away. It is very easy to go on bus trips to Siracusa, Taormina .... To Siracusa for example there is a bus basically each hour and the same day return ticket is less than 10 Euro.
I want to say Ester's apartment is very convenient (if you prefer to hire no car) even for a week, because from Catania you can easily get to many places by bus.
Esther is extremely friendly and flexible. Her English is very good - very easy to communicate with her on the phone.
I made a very good experience.
The harbor is just 4 minutes away. You can watch the ferries (including from the roof) and walk up to the end of a very long pear from where you have a special view on the city, the Etna and the sea (a quiet place - only the sea, no cars – perfect!)
I had a very nice stay at Esther's. She was very accomodating with my arrival and departure times. The room itself was very satisfactory and the place truly offers one of fhe best views in Catania.
A very good experience - thank you Esther
Esther was a lovely host and a very flexible one! She accepted me although I only reserved a day before I arrived and she made me feel very welcome. The house is amazing and very well located, close to the Duomo in the middle of the centre, and I was also happy to see that one of the great wine bars of Catania is just around the corner. The view from the terrace is breathtaking, a must for all photo enthusiasts! :) The cats and dogs are also supercute and very friendly :) Thank you Esther for the warm welcome and hope to see you soon again!
Eshter's house is really pretty and the whole complex is huge, we loved the roofterrace! The bedroom is a bit smaller than you would think from the pictures but it is very charming. The neighbourhood is probably the best in Catania. We did not see Esther, but her daughter welcomed us and gave us lots of information.

I am a tour guide and I work just in Sicily. I love to have contact with people that come to visit our island and of course I can help with all information about historical places to visit and how to reach them.
During the day I am very busy with my job. I love animals and I have dogs and cats that are very friendly when they have met the people.
I love people that travel to really discover a place and the local habits instead of being just tourists. This is the reason why I have decided to rent my spare room and I will do a new experience that I hope will help tourist to better discover not only Catania bur also the other places that con be reached from here.
