. The design of this place features the original Maltese limestone floor and a stone fireplace that was added to the original house during the British period.
This 1 bedroom apartment has the capacity to host 4 people comfortably.
This origal 17th Century home has been transformed into small living spaces with respect to the original features.
This unit is made up of a large open space formerly known as the grand hall. It has now been modernized keeping the original flooring. It has a fully functional kitchenette with a dining table and a sofa which can open to become a second bed. The unit also has a separate airconditioned private bedroom and a bathroom.
The area is surrounded by the city's largest open space (Argotti Gardens) which dates back to the times of the knights. The neighborhood is still very local and while it may become a little busy during the hours of the morning is quiet and safe at night.
There are lovely swimming spots just 5 mins walk from the house, but sandy beaches in the north of the island are a 15 -30 min bus ride away.
Marv the Marvellous - what an excellent host! Nothing was too much trouble and he also checked in with us during our stay in case we had any problems or needed any advice.
We actually stayed in the Casetta Balzunetta downstairs https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1686193, which is an exquisite and elegant, yet homely and comfortable, apartment. Plenty of space, a relaxing outdoor courtyard and a really good quality sofa bed which my son used were just some of the apartment's many good points. Perfect location too - 2 minutes walk from central Valletta and the bus station.
Hadn't visited Malta before but it exceeded all my expectations. There are so many wonderful places to visit on the island (all easily reachable by the frequent bus services). To top it all, the Maltese people are really welcoming and courteous. Maybe I'll have to plan another visit soon?
Was met by Marv's sister, very friendly and prompt. Didn't have any real issues so didn't talk to them during the week so can't comment on helpfulness etc, but they made themselves available for any problems. Absolutely fantastic location, cannot stress that enough, short walk to the main bus terminal to all locations on island, and valletta itself. Comes with a functional kitchen, large lounge with a comfy sofa, including another big and pretty comfortable sofa that turns into a sofa-bed.
One important thing to note is that the road next to it can get very noisy from about 7:30 onwards - if you want a lie-in this might not be for you, but I didn't mind so much.
+ location (the nearest bus station to many location in Malta is around 5 minutes walk, 10 minutes from the historical centre of Valletta)
+ nice aprtm interior;
+ resonable rent cost;
+ well equiped kitchen;
+ good Wi-Fi internet connection (speed and signal strength);
+ quiet neiborhood.
- very small bath room (shower room), water overflowing onto the floor constantly;
- there was no TV as on pictures although TV wasn't in a facilities list;
- despite a flat description Marv asked us 5 eur per day for using AC in the bedroom that is violation AirBNB rules;
- weak water pressure but we had the same issue in other flats in Malta.
In any case, we are satisfied with the host and the apartment. Thank you, Marv.
Marv was a kind host, always available for any question or advice.
The apartment is actually bigger than it looks like in the pictures, comfortable, and properly equipped. Marv has plenty of guides about the island, restaurants and even a quick guide to maltese conversation!
The neighbourhood is sometimes noisy, but I guess Maltese always are (In the bedroom you don't hear any sound, even during independence celebrations!). I specially loved that there were only locals in this area, kind people willing to help, give directions or just say hello in the mornings.
The bus terminal is only a few steps away and you can reach anywhere in the island. Small convenience stores are everywhere and in the mornings small trucks come to sell fruits and vegetables.
You must only remember to turn on the water heater a few minutes before you get in the shower, and it might run out soon. There is no TV, but who needs it when you can be in the beach or visiting the cities?
Thanks for letting us stay in your place, we very much enjoyed the hollidays!
Marv is a very friendly and helpful host. The apartment is on the first floor and is spacious with high ceilings and a traditional Maltese balcony. It's in an ideal situation only 5 minutes walk from the bus station and the City Gate of Valletta. It has an air conditioning unit in the bedroom which was most welcome. There is also a washing machine next door. Marv's apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
The apartment is very nice and next to La Valletta. Marv was anche excellent host and a very correct person. Highly recommended place to stay
Four of us stayed in flat #1, which fit the description exactly. We were there for 3 days in the busy/hot month of August. Marv lives on the bottom floor and was very responsive whenever we needed something.
The flat is almost as close to Valletta as you can be without being in it. We had a rental car and never had any issues with parking. Only one room has AC, but we were able to cool the entire apartment down by closing all of the shutters/curtains and with creative use of a single fan. I slept comfortably every night. The shower is a typical european size, but the water heater doesnt provide hot water for long. However, this was not a problem for us in August ;-) There is also a large fridge, full kitchen and large dining room table.
All in all it was a good experience!
Marvic was a charming host who greeted us with a smile and great patience even though our flight was an hour late. He welcomed us to his lovely apartment and couldn't have been more helpful. The place itself is gorgeous: beautifully preserved, tastefully decorated and dantastically convenient for the fantastic city ofValletta.
The apartment was agreeable, with all services we needed (air conditioning, washing machine, full kitchen), very spacious (except for the bathroom, but we were aware of that), clean. A few steps from Valletta, and with ample parking in the surrounding area if you rent a car or with the main bus station very close if you won't have a car. There are some shops in the next block where you could find basic necessities. It was a pity the road noise early in the morning that woke us up every day... Marvic has been very helpful to our requests.
We would suggest this flat for your holiday in Malta
We stayed in Apartment 1 which is now shown clearly in the photos. As stated by other reviewers, this was not previously the case. This apartment is a little run down and in need of maintenance. In particular, the floors were in a poor state and in the bedroom, the floor was incomplete and already breaking up. As Marv, the owner explained, the building had been vacant for 30 years before he brought it and he plans to renovate it further as finances allow. (The ground floor apartment, no. 3, which Marv lives in, has been renovated and is of a far higher standard.) The positives of apartment 1 were its lovely little balcony from where you could sit and watch the neighbourhood, its large living/dining room (no TV, as we knew, but it is shown in the photos), its very comfortable bed (after the hard beds of Sicily), the easy accessibility of the shared laundry and good wi-fi access. The kitchenette was okay. It had the basics which is all you need unless you are planning to cook regularly. However, there was no microwave oven, as shown in the photos, and there was no hot water for washing up so we needed to boil a kettle. The main negative was the bathroom which was very small. Water splashed everywhere in the shower. The hot water tank only held 30 litres, which is very small, making for lukewarm showers for two people in quick succession. In terms of location, the apartment is close to the main gate of Valetta and the main bus station, making it very easy to travel around the island and Gozo. Floriana itself is a very interesting city, having been established by the Knights of St John. It probably could be described as working class but on the cusp of gentrification. It has lots of little cafes and bars, particularly once you cross to the other side of the Mall, and a lovely garden. Overall, it's okay to stay in this apartment if you only intend to stay here for a couple of days.
