The Space

Antique double bed (new mattress) with reading chair and desk, lamps, art on walls; hallway bathroom w/ shower and tub combo. Kitchen/den and living room welcome you with wood fires in winter, cool quiet in summer.

Antique furniture and original art throughout house; lovely porch or garden areas offer outdoor seating/reflection; chickens, dogs and cats at your convenience for petting. Hosts are native Southerners, long-time Atlanta-area residents and recent empty nesters, and can give tips on entertainment, navigation and general well being. One host now working toward her doctorate.

Professional singles, couples or students will be most comfortable in this generous-sized bedroom. Bed has pillow-top mattress. Families: check w/ me about availability of a second bedroom for children. (It is my daughter's bedroom. She is sometimes away.)

Wireless, off-street parking available. Iron, ironing board, hair dryer in closet. Small fridge in room and hot-water kettle. Laundry facilities, full fridge and stove available in kitchen if needed for your use. We are happy to recommend restaurants and entertainment, drink coffee, tea or wine with you, or leave you entirely alone--it's your choice. If we are out of town, a neighbor will serve as concierge.

One and one-half blocks to Village of Oakhurst for dining, shopping and entertainment; easy walk or bike ride to Agnes Scott College, downtown Decatur, or East line of MARTA rail (can drive to Eastlake MARTA station in three minutes, or walk it in 10-12 minutes). Convenient, 15-minute drive to downtown Atlanta, Emory Un. or main campus of Centers for Disease Control. MARTA from Eastlake to downtown also takes about 12-15 minutes. You are as close to MARTA here in Decatur as you would be at any in-town location.

Our safe, convenient location and the charm of our home make this airbnb listing the place for you!

  • The room is spacious. The house was beautiful and Ann was an excellent host..

  • My host responded quickly to my airport arrival call and was at home when I arrived. I was shown my room, given my key and was free to come and go as I pleased.

  • Ann's lovely home is nestled amongst trees and garden space in the Oakhurst area of Decatur. We were able to walk to the local cafe and restaurants easily.
Ann was out of town when we visited, but Bob and their daughter were there to let us in. We enjoyed their dogs and cats (2 each), but they were not a burden if you're not interested.
The room and bed were very comfortable, and the in room mini fridge was a nice feature.
We also appreciated the private driveway as we're traveling musicians with gear.
We recommend staying here, especially if you want to be in the quiet/woodsy side of Atlanta.

  • We planned to stay with Ann and Bob for a night, but our flight was canceled and we ended up having to find a hotel in Baltimore. Ann and Bob were both very understanding and accommodating, though, and agreed to refund our payment despite the very short cancellation notice. All of my communication with Ann leading up to our planned stay was quick and accommodating. Though we didn't end up getting to see the house, I can say with confidence that Ann and Bob would be great hosts.

  • Ann was a great host and her house is exactly as described. It is incredibly close to the restaurants and everything thing else that Oakhurst Village has to offer, and the dogs and cats make great company.

  • Ann was very kind and inviting, and her family accomodating. There was a bit of a scheduling snafu when I came into town, but Ann quickly ironed it out and everything was well. She gave great recommendations for food and drink, and showed me around her very cool chicken coop in the morning!

  • Our stay was pleasant and quiet. The room was as pictured on the website. Unfortunately, we did not get the chance to meet Ann but her daughter was around to help. We loved the chicken coop and the lovely plants!

  • What a beautiful home! Although Ann was out of town for the night, her husband was there to greet us when we arrived and provide us with a key so we may come and go as we please. The accommodations were very tidy and spacious and even included a mini refrigerator for any snacks we might have brought in. A total perk was proximity of the home to downtown Decatur which has tons of independent taverns and restaurants. We would definitely stay with Ann's family again if we were traveling through Decatur.

  • I wish I could have stayed longer with Ann. The neighborhood was cute and the little square down the road had some neat shops. Ann was also very helpful and welcoming.

  • This was a great place--the listed room was unavailable for the night I needed, but Ann offered her daughter's room instead. Everything was as described.

A native of the South Carolina Lowcountry, Ann Ritter has made her home in the Atlanta, GA, area for the past 33 years. She is an author, performer and business woman, who also teaches and practices yoga and yoga therapy. Her partner for airbnb, Bob Holmes, is a commercial landscaper with a degree in ornamental horticulture and a life-long interest in golf. He grew up in NC on a private golf course and estate managed by his father and owned by the Avery Rockefeller family. Ann and Bob have two recently grown children. Ann likes films, books (she is in three book clubs) and long walks. When she has lots of time, she loves to cook. Among her favorite films are The Red Violin, Catch Me if You Can and The Green Mile. Bob likes music, from classical to country. He admires Carlos Santana and is pleased to see Santana's newest album debut. The home in Oakhurst is most fortunately located in a highly walkable/bikeable area with many trees and gardens, and just about all you could want in conveniences--from a coffee shop to a quick mart, and nine restaurants and pubs located one and one-half blocks away. After raising two children in Decatur and hosting many, many visiting students over the past 25 years, Ann and Bob look forward to getting to know other travelers from around the globe, and to welcoming them with good coffee/tea and conversation.
