The Space

If you are passing through San Francisco and need a place to stay for a few nights that is close to highways (2 minutes by car from 101 and 280), transportation (Muni buses and Bart) and lots of nice stores and restaurants (Cortland Avenue + Mission Street) in the friendliest neighborhood in the city, then this is the room for you. You have your own private bathroom and a room opening into a sunny yard. The room is very quiet and equipped with free wi-fi, a microwave + drip coffee maker and a small fridge for your breakfast needs. The bed is a very comfortable single bed (twin size). A lazy-chair for your reading needs and a comfortable office chair + desk in case you need to do any work at the computer complete the furnishing. When it is cold out, you can turn the heating on (we have an electric base board heater, very efficient). Just turn it off when you are not there, to help us keep our electrical bill in check. We live upstairs and will be happy to direct you around our pleasant neighborhood. We are also very close to the largest farmers' market and flee market in San Francisco.

We do need a deposit to confirm the reservation. Airbnb will collect it from you and will give it back to you 48 hours after your departure.

MINIMUM STAY: 4 nights.

When you apply, PLEASE WRITE A PROFILE describing where you live, what you do, have your PORTRAIT PHOTO (just you) posted in the query, add your interests/hobbies and something that can give us a better idea of you. Also, add any previous hosts' review of you as a guest. In addition, for your protection, in case you should fall ill and need emergency care while at my house, I will need to make a copy of your photo ID when you check in (and of course it is for my protection too :) ). You can also scan and email it to me, after I confirm your booking. Either way it is fine. Thank you for your cooperation.

Occasionally you may see our she CAT passing by your room door, she is an outdoor cat and a very sweet one (likes to be belly rubbed). But if you are not big on cats, you can just keep your door closed and she will be very discreet.

  • Cecilia was an amazing hostess! I stayed with her during the first 2 weeks of my relocation to SF from NYC and the experience from booking to check out was absolutely wonderful. She takes a lot of care to make sure you are comfortable in her home - everything from setting you up with a few groceries and toiletries upon your arrival to checking in here and there during the course of your stay, but always respecting your privacy. She's always willing to offer suggestions on transportation, shopping, etc and overall is just a joy.

The room is a very nice size for one person and the attached bath makes it feel almost like your own studio. The small fridge and microwave was also a life saver for me so I could prepare small breakfasts and dinners in the room to save a little money. Having access to the back patio is also a lovely feature - if it's warm enough!

You can't go wrong. Highly recommend!

  • The room was amazing and Cecilia was the perfect host. I stayed here nearly a whole month while getting settled in the city, and I don't think I would've felt nearly as comfortable in San Francisco without such a great place to stay. I'm a very quiet and introverted person, and Cecilia respected that. However, she also helped me whenever I needed help or had any questions. She even gave me the contact info for an apartment agency because she knew I was looking for a place.

The street is nice and quiet, but a couple blocks up there are plenty of shops and restaurants, and a nice neighborhood market.

The garden was also lovely and made the place feel homey. The bathroom was clean and had a nice hot shower. And the cat was very sweet. I can't say enough good things about my time here.

  • I stayed with Cecilia for 3 weeks while I was kicking off my relocation to SF and she was a great host! She was very helpful, nice, easy to communicate with and extremely knowledgeable. Being a long time SF resident, she knows the tips a guest needs to explore/learn the city better. She provided me with maps and info, which I really appreciated. Her place is quiet, clean and convenient to public transportation to get around the city. The room is clean, well-appointed and perfect for longer term stays. I recommend Cecilia’s to everyone.

  • Cecilia was a great host, the room was a good size and separated slightly from the rest of the house. I was even lucky enough to be around when her daughter baked some foccacia, and be offered some. If I'm ever looking for a temporary place to stay again in San Francisco, I'll definitely see if this is available.

  • This is a little gem that is slightly off the beaten path. The room was more than comfortable and had all the right amenities. Cecilia is a wonderful host, making sure I felt at home and had everything I needed during my stay. Bernal Heights, though not as well known as some of the other SF neighborhoods, is nice, reminds me more of SF from 20 years ago, and is definately worth spending time in.

  • Cecilia was wonderful. The room and bathroom were perfect with a beautiful patio and garden directly off the room. Bernal Heights neighborhood was fantastic and really easy ride into the city on a bus, cab, or even walking. Highly recommend staying here. Thanks again, Cecilia!

  • I stayed with Cecilia for 2 weeks, while I was looking for a more permanent location. The room is clean and big, in its own floor so you don't feel like you are invading someone else's space. Cecilia is a very kind and sweet italian soul, very helpful and approachable with any questions I had.
Overall it was a nice experience, I just have to mention that in cold winter nights the room may get chilly, don't hesitate to use the extra blanket that Cecilia provides for these rare occasions.

  • I was looking for a place to stay for the week while I attend some business meetings and quick tour the city after a summit at (website hidden).
Cecilia was perfect host for me, the room was neat, spacious and had all basics I needed. I am big fan of tea, and there was large selection of herbal and fruit tea.
Thank you Cecilia for providing me a home far from home. I am sure we can find a way to collaborate on our interest and thanks for introducing me to Gordon. I will write to him soon.
I enjoyed the stay and will like to rent the place if I am back in SF. I recommend the place to everyone. Cecilia's daughter has got some serious baking skills, loved the cookies!!
    happy thanksgiving!!

About
Hi, my name is Cecilia. I am from Rome but live in San Francisco. I love good food, books about history, philosophy, art, anthropology, and film. I dream about having free time to read good novels. I love classical music, jazz, arabic music, and traditional indian dance. My favorite travel destination: a hammock in the shade near the sea, preferably on a hill, a cold tea with lemon and sugar and a good book and also the desire to sleep without a work deadline. As a guest I am independent and curious. As a host I like clear communication and would like for my guest to feel at home and welcome. My motto: a day at the time.
