WELCOME TO OUR FANTASTIC HOUSE IN THE STOCKHOLM ARCHIPELAGO!
Dont' miss out on a fantastic experience to live on an island in the archipelago in the midst of the Baltic Sea with the closeness to water and the forest, and still only 30 min away from the city of Stockholm!
The house is tastefully designed and has been shown in several interior magazines. For many it is very "Swedish" or for others it could be a house in Maine and Marthas vineyard.
Ingarö is one of 30 000 islands in the world´s largest archipelago outside Stockholm and the island where parts of "The girl with the dragon tattoo" with Daniel Craig was filmed.
You will be two minutes away from the pier, a small sandy beach and the Baltic Sea, you would have a huge veranda with grill. The house has washer, dryer, internet, cable TV, dishwasher, freezer, open fire place and a huge kitchen.
We want you to feel just as home as we do in our house! So during summer/spring and fall you can just borrow all swim-gear and beach stuff as well as life vests and our small open motor boat by the pier. There are great trails for running and hiking. You can fish from the pier or the boat and you can use our bikes and helmets and bike everywhere.
In the wintertime you can borrow all Christmas decorations and just light up the house with the Christmas lights and you can use our ice skates and skate on the fresh water lake. You can also use our newly built sauna and guesthouse. There are fireplaces both on the outside deck and in the main house as well as guest house.
HOW TO GET THERE
It is really easy to go to the house from both airports in Stockholm. If you arrive at Skavsta, just take the high ways all the way to the exit to Ingarö where there is a local road the last 15 minutes (approx 1,5 hour in total for this car ride).
If you arrive at Arlanda you also use the highways all the way to the exit to Ingarö and the ride from the airport will take approximately an hour. There is also public transportation to the island and a bridge connecting the island to the mainland and it takes 30 minutes to go from the house directly downtown Stockholm.
There is a fabulous bakery and lots of stores for famous porcelain in Gustavsberg 15 min car ride away. And there you can also find shopping centres with everything you need. If you want to go further out in the archipelago you can catch a steamboat by Ingarö church in the summer and go out to famous retreat Sandhamn in the outskirts of the archipelago on a day tour.
THE CLOSENESS TO STOCKHOLM CITY
There is a convenient easy way to go between our house to the centre of Stockholm. The local bus 430 X goes directly from the Old Town in Stockholm to a bus stop 5 min walk from our house.
When you arrive in the city centre you can stroll in the area and enjoy the island of Old Town which is listed as cultured marked. You can take the ferry directly over to Djurgården/”deer garden” where you will find the famous Wasa museum, wonderful parks in the middle of town as well as popular venues such as open-air museum Skansen and Prince Eugene's Waldemarsudde. Or you can take a 10 min walk and you will be right downtown Stockholm in the middle of the shopping centres!

Our stay at Helena's place was pretty perfect. It's just far enough outside of Stockholm to feel like you're at a summer house, but just close enough that you could go into Stockholm every day if you wanted to. We arrived late in the evening to a fridge that had some food in it, which was a very nice gesture. The beds and bedding were all very comfortable, especially after a long flight. The house was also very well stocked in terms of extra towels, bedding, dishes, cooking ingredients and more. We used pretty much every area of the house during our stay, including the entertainment room upstairs and the back patio. Roasting marshmallows outside in the fire pit was a nice bonus. And of course having the sauna was awesome.
Of the very small downsides, I would say that one would have been only having one shower between the five of us, but it really wasn't even that big of a deal. Also, they are building another shower in the guesthouse which would solve that problem. There is also already a second 1/2 bathroom upstairs which was very convenient.
One other thing of note is that this place is less practical without a car. While there is a bus that will take you very near to the house, the schedule looked like it was a bit infrequent.
Regarding Helena and her husband: what wonderful people. They even came out to the house halfway through our stay to meet us AND brought their family dog as I had mentioned that my mom would like that. Helena was very easy to work with and very quick to answer any questions that we had and sent several messages our way during our stay to make sure that everything was good.
All in all, I highly recommend this wonderful archipelago house for a vacation.
What can I say about this wonderful home? It is gorgeous, perfect for 2 couples and 1 Mom, well equipped, did I say beautiful and comfortable at the same time? We felt right at home and Peter was very welcoming. He directed us to the System Bloget and grocery store, where to get the bus into Stockholm and directed us to a great restaurant right on the water. There are two outdoor places where you can build a fire. My fire builder man built fires in both: the one I enjoyed on the deck and the one he enjoyed at the foot of a granite ledge. My Mom repeatedly told me how wonderful the home is and what a great find I made. All of us will remember this as Mom's dream trip to Sweden!
The title for this place really does sums up the place. We went out on Boxing Day till after New Year Day and it is a real winter-wonderland with the most cosiest, functional & picturesque home slapped right bang in the middle of the forest (almost like a scene that you have read/heard as a child, from one of the fairy-tale stories). It is really so very peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle. The people are very friendly.
It is so easy to get to, from airport to visiting Stockholm. The supermarkets are nearby, if you ever need something. We bought enough ingredients to make home-made Nutella cookies to raspberry muffins and even Steak & Guinness Pie; and all next to the wood-burning fire, it is really home sweet home. We would play one of their games every evening with music playing in the background or even watch one of their numerous DVDs, that they have stored.
Helena Stahl (the owner/host), have been brilliant and quick to reply. She can speak more languages than I have fingers on one hands, so communication would not be a problem there. She had a hand-book on standby, if you want to get know a little bit more about the home, family or the surrounding. For example, we did not know that a herd of deer would bark like dogs and YES, we would see them daily via our kitchen window some morning or evening before the sun set! What could be more idyllic than that.
The only real downside is that we didn't get to see a proper flurry of snow although, the snow is already there waiting for us in knee-deep and the lake have turned into (the most beautiful baby blue) ice, it was more than enough for us. :-) (And oh, Helena even had sledges out, waiting for us to have fun on it!)
And if that's not enough, then they are building a sauna right next to their home. We would definitely come back during the summer months and swim in one of the lakes nearby, along with picnic in hand. I, for one can't thank Helena enough (as I have been waiting for years to visit Sweden, and her home) and already, I can't wait to go back.
