About this listing

The space

Livorno was defined as an "ideal town" during the Italian Renaissance. Today, it reveals its history through the structure of its neighbourhoods, crossed by canals and surrounded by fortified town walls, through the tangle of its streets, which embroider the town's Venice district, and through the Medici Port characteristically overlooked by towers and fortresses leading to the town centre. Designed by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti at the end of the 16th century, Livorno underwent a period of great town planning expansion at the end of the 17th century. Near the defensive pile of the Old Fortress, a new fortress, together with the town-walls and the system of navigable canals, was then built. After Pisa's silting up, distance from the sea and loss of dominance, Livorno took over as the main port in Tuscany.

In my house you will feel at home, free to discover one of the most fascinating area in Tuscany. From here you can reach by train either Florence (one hour and a half) or Pisa (ten minutes). Or you can just enjoy the most fascinating places in my town: Terrazza Mascagni, an amazing terrace on the see, the Venezia area with canals, nice restaurants and night bars where live music is performed almost every night, a magic sunset on Calafuria rocks, facing Gorgona Island whose skyline reminds of a woman's profile floating on the surface of the sea. Don't miss the Italian style "aperitivo" from 6 p.m. to late in the night, often with live music.

My apartment is at the fourth and last floor of a building dating back to the sixties: parquet is everywhere and this makes it comfortable. The windows on the roof let the natural light come in whereas a pleasant breeze coming from opposite open windows won't make you miss a conditioning system.
The kitchen is fully equipped with oven and refrigerator so that you can prepare nice food by yourself. Nearby there is a big market where you can find fresh vegetable and fruit, fresh fish and delicious bread and "schiacciata". Don't miss our "torta di ceci", something you can not explain but only try. You can have it "plain" or with "focaccia" or "pan francese" (French bread): in this case, it is called 5and5, because after the second world war it was sold for 5 cents of bread and 5 cents of "torta".
Come on, join us in this amazing and unusual world!

Please note that parking is not easy in this area: you can park your car for free 15 minutes walk far from the apartment (or 3 bus stop). If you find a place nearby, you have to pay during day time, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 8 pm, for maximum 2 hours.

One more note for all those who ask for sea and beaches (of course..): sandy beaches are located in two areas: 10 km north of Livorno, the so called Calambrone area, and 27 km south of Livorno, Rosignano Marittimo. These are the closest areas which you can easily reach by car. If you love rocks, then you can reach rocky shores by bike or by bus as they are close to the center of Livorno: small rocky beaches are "I tre ponti" or "La Vela" or amazing rocks where you can easily bath and swim around snorkeling are a bit farer: this is the famous "Calafuria" area.

Fulvia was wonderful from the moment of booking. My family and I had a very good time. Her apt was very comfortable and cozy and felt like home. She was helpful in making reservations for us at a popular restaurant. Also when we got lost trying to find bus for the beach. No complaints at all. Would stay there again. Thank you Fulvia. Sorry I didn't make it to your store. Next time.

Thank you, Lynn. You are such a nice person that I can't imagine how people can not be nice with you. When you come to my shop, we'll chose a new clock for my apartment :D

Having travelled through Rome and Florence which are heaving with tourists at this time of year, Livorno felt like a more authentic Italian experience. Fulvia's apartment is both bright and spacious in a real italian neighborhood. Lines hang with newly washed clothes, the aroma of mouthwatering freshly cooked meals wafts through the window, the neighbors cat chats incessantly to himself all day long and the melody of a half learned tune fills the air as one of the neighbors practice the trombone on a sunday afternoon. In a word, charming! So much so that we actually stayed in and cooked a couple of nights just to savor the atmosphere. The apartment is close to everything and is lovely to walk through the streets. I particularily enjoyed our evening walk on theTerrazza Mascagni and the fantastic vegan meal we shared at La Casina di Alice. A wonderful experience

We wanted a couple of days by the beach during our stay in Tuscany, so we thought this would be ideal. During our stay we took bus 10 to Calambrone, a sandy beach that's about 20 minutes away, which gave us what we wanted. Fulvia met us at the property, gave us a quick introduction and then she was contactable by phone if we had any questions. We thought there wasn't much to do in Livorno itself. We found it quite hard to sleep at night because of the noise of seagulls and mopeds (you need the windows open otherwise it is too hot). The apartment was nice, with lots of homely decorations. Cooking facilities were fine, although glasses/plates looked like they needed a wash before using them and there wasn't any kettle or toaster, which we would have liked.

Response from Fulvia&Ale:
Thank you Natalie for your feedback. Glasses and dishes may not have been washed properly by the previous guests so, thank you for advising: I will ask the lady who does the cleaning to check them every time. As far as the kettle and the toaster are concerned, they are not "basic kitchen amenities" in Italy. I'm sure that when I come to UK, I'll find them in any apartment I'll stay in. You also mentioned in your private feedback an odd bad smell in the small bathroom: in old houses this happens and depends on the condominium facilities and not the apartment. I can't do much for this but flush the toilet from time to time. I wrote in your feedback that you are welcome back at anytime and you still are. But please consider that you are staying in a private apartment and not a five-star hotel room.

We visited Livorno for four nights and had an amazing time. Our flight was delayed on the evening we arrived and Fulvia very kindly collected us from the airport to save us arriving too late. Fulvia had left us a selection of snacks, food and drink to save us having to go to the supermarket straight away which was very thoughtful. The apartment is lovely, it feels very homely, breezy, and is in an excellent location right in the heart of Livorno. There is a real attention to detail and we felt at home as soon as we arrived. The bus stops are around the corner and it is a short walk into Venezia. We would highly recommend this place, and thank you Fulvia for an amazing experience.

Fulvia is an AMAZING host and person. She tracked our train and waited for us when we arrived late and greeted us with a huge smile and a bottle of Tuscan wine. She then invited us to visit her gift shop that is in the center of Livorno and gave me a postcard for free (of her beautiful photography)! To top it all off, she gave us a ride to our ferry that was about 20 minutes away and was so happy to do so. The apartment was very clean and in a great, central location. The only con was that Livorno was going through a heat wave during our stay (in August) and she does not have air conditioning or a fan, so it was a bit uncomfortable in the apartment under these circumstances. Any other time of year, everything would have been perfect! I highly recommend her place.

Siamo due fratelli, Fulvia e Ale. Entrambi amiamo la fotografia e conoscere gente nuova da tutto il mondo. Farvi stare bene nelle nostre casine, sarà un vero piacere!

It's the two of us, sister and brother, Fulvia and Ale: Fulvia lives in Livorno and Ale in Saint Vincent. We both love photography and meeting people from all over the world.
Ale is fluent in thinking in English but soon will be able to speak very fluently. In the meantime he can rely upon Federica's help, his girlfriend. So, it's the three of us! :)
