Livorno was defined as an "ideal town" during the Italian Renaissance. Today, it reveals its history through the structure of its neighbourhoods, crossed by canals and surrounded by fortified town walls, through the tangle of its streets, which embroider the town's Venice district, and through the Medici Port characteristically overlooked by towers and fortresses leading to the town centre. Designed by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti at the end of the 16th century, Livorno underwent a period of great town planning expansion at the end of the 17th century. Near the defensive pile of the Old Fortress, a new fortress, together with the town-walls and the system of navigable canals, was then built. After Pisa's silting up, distance from the sea and loss of dominance, Livorno took over as the main port in Tuscany.
In my house you will feel at home, free to discover one of the most fascinating area in Tuscany. From here you can reach by train either Florence (one hour and a half) or Pisa (ten minutes). Or you can just enjoy the most fascinating places in my town: Terrazza Mascagni, an amazing terrace on the see, the Venezia area with canals, nice restaurants and night bars where live music is performed almost every night, a magic sunset on Calafuria rocks, facing Gorgona Island whose skyline reminds of a woman's profile floating on the surface of the sea. Don't miss the Italian style "aperitivo" from 6 p.m. to late in the night, often with live music.
My apartment is at the fourth and last floor of a building dating back to the sixties: parquet is everywhere and this makes it comfortable. The windows on the roof let the natural light come in whereas a pleasant breeze coming from opposite open windows won't make you miss a conditioning system.
The kitchen is fully equipped with oven and refrigerator so that you can prepare nice food by yourself. Nearby there is a big market where you can find fresh vegetable and fruit, fresh fish and delicious bread and "schiacciata". Don't miss our "torta di ceci", something you can not explain but only try. You can have it "plain" or with "focaccia" or "pan francese" (French bread): in this case, it is called 5and5, because after the second world war it was sold for 5 cents of bread and 5 cents of "torta".
Come on, join us in this amazing and unusual world!
Please note that parking is not easy in this area: you can park your car for free 15 minutes walk far from the apartment (or 3 bus stop). If you find a place nearby, you have to pay during day time, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 8 pm, for maximum 2 hours.
One more note for all those who ask for sea and beaches (of course..): sandy beaches are located in two areas: 10 km north of Livorno, the so called Calambrone area, and 27 km south of Livorno, Rosignano Marittimo. These are the closest areas which you can easily reach by car. If you love rocks, then you can reach rocky shores by bike or by bus as they are close to the center of Livorno: small rocky beaches are "I tre ponti" or "La Vela" or amazing rocks where you can easily bath and swim around snorkeling are a bit farer: this is the famous "Calafuria" area.
After a long journey full of traffic jams, fulvia waited for us with homecooked pasta. Few times that pasta tasted any better! We felt warmly welcomed and immediately at home in this cozy apartment. Fulvia had everything we needed and was such a lovely host. She even trusted us with the keys when she had to leave for a few days. Located ideally in the city center. Very comfortable bed. Great stay, absolutely recommended!
Fulvias flat was easy to reach via train. The room was clean and the bed as comfortable. The breakfast was easy but fulvia recognized our need and bought stuff that we liked. Livorno offers a some shops and via bus you can reach the beach. All in all we had a enjoyed your stay.
Thank you for your positive review! As for breakfast, in Italy we do have an "easy" (simple) breakfast, that is coffee, milk (together it is caffellatte) yogurt, fette biscottate with butter and jam (mine is homemade by me), some orange or apple juice, cakes (I love Camille, with almonds and carrots) and some fresh fruit. And it usually takes us about 5 days (not 2) to drink one liter of milk each :D. All in all you have been nice guests.
Fulvia's flat is close to the centre of Livorno and can be reached from the central station within 20 minutes by foot. The flat is nicely decorated and the room is spacious. We didn't meet Fulvia that often because she was working most of the time in her own shop. Notice that there is only a WIFI-Network in her shop, NOT IN THE FLAT. Unfortunately, Fulvia couldn't give us that much advise because we were most of the time at the beach when she was at home :). But when we met here she was kind and tried to help us even if her advise for the beach wasn't that helpful.
Just a tip: The best places for sunbathing and swimming are Castiglioncello and Vada.
All in all we had a nice stay.
Thank you Sophie for pointing out that there is no internet in the flat: I'm proud of it, as well as of the fact that there is no TV (it is also shown in "Services" tab). I must say that there are cards, indeed, and other games you can play to spend your time at home. Some nice books, too. Not all in Italian: a couple in English, some in Spanish. You can also listen to some international music with my iPad and dock station: Springsteen, The Who, The Pink Floyd, Ryan Bingham, The Derek Trucks Band, Keb' Mo', etc.. I'm also happy that you discovered Castiglioncello and Vada by yourself. I've more knowledge of the town, places to visit, churches, monuments, must-see, entertainment, restaurants and nice pubs. Thanks again and take care!
Fulvia was the most welcoming and friendly host! She had some great advice on where to go in Livorno and was of great help for practical stuff. Her breakfast with homemade marmelade was amazing! We had an awesome time, many thanks!
I stayed at Fulvia’s apartment for a week with my boyfriend. It was very clean and well decorated. The bedroom we had was as shown in the photos in the listing and was very spacious.
Fulvia was very friendly and helpful and came to meet us off the bus when we arrived to make sure we could find the flat OK. We mostly saw her in the morning before she went to work. She had lots of handy hints on where to visit/where to shop and we had a lovely relaxing holiday.
Un piccolo e grazioso appartamento. Una padrona di casa gentile. Una bella vista su (website hidden) tornerei senz'altro.
Fulvia was so welcoming and friendly making my stay in Livorno very special. She was so kind including me in socialising with her friends and meeting her family.
Fulvia was very helpful too, giving me advice on where to go even recommending her hairdresser.
Her apartment was very clean with a lovely bedroom, in a very good location and so handy to the main bus route.
I highly recommend staying with Fulvia, a fantastic host.

Siamo due fratelli, Fulvia e Ale. Entrambi amiamo la fotografia e conoscere gente nuova da tutto il mondo. Farvi stare bene nelle nostre casine, sarà un vero piacere!
It's the two of us, sister and brother, Fulvia and Ale: Fulvia lives in Livorno and Ale in Saint Vincent. We both love photography and meeting people from all over the world.
Ale is fluent in thinking in English but soon will be able to speak very fluently. In the meantime he can rely upon Federica's help, his girlfriend. So, it's the three of us! :)
