Wonderful venues: Elizabeth's just 2 blocks down the street on same block (Zagat rated, famous for it's brunch menu, but lunches and dinners are packed with devotees as well), Bachannal for gourmet, yet casual, dinner choices. Live music out in their garden 7 nights a week; top trumpeter Kermit Ruffins plays and packs the house at Vaughn's every Thurs. night. The rice and red beans come out around midnight. Funky Satsuma coffee house just steps away. Healthy salads, sandwiches, juices and of course COFFEE! Mimi's In The Marigny always voted one of Gambit's "Top Neighborhood Bars". Frenchman Street, with it's endless selection of music venues (many with no cover charge) is just a 2 minute cab ride. Check out the MAP to see just how VERY CLOSE this address is to the French Quarter.
the own large bathroom, the entire kitchen (though I don't expect anyone to bake!) Space made for you in the frig and of course stovetop use is fine.
Interaction with Guests
It is obvious once you arrive whether you want to engage me for information about the neighborhood and city. You can be as alone as you like. Doors close off your space for total privacy. I am frequently in the kitchen because it is massive and that's where my desk is located (one half of a 30' kitchen is sort of a den area).
Funky creative types (sorta like Williamsburg, Brooklyn) many great new restaurants have opened in the past few years. All are within 3 blocks of the house! Elizabeth's, Satsuma, Maurepas, Booty's, The Joint (BBQ), Bachannal (a bit further away, but worth the walk)
Easy to walk to the French Quarter. Cabs come in five minutes after calling. Only about $7.00 to the Quarter. Buses run during the day ($1.25) get you into the Quarter in 5 minutes
No smoking. No pets. Yes there is WIFI so bring your OWN laptop, my computer is 100% off limits. Don't even ask (thank you!) Print out your boarding passes BEFORE arrival or do it at airport. Heavy partying reserved for French Quarter. Looking to host mature and respectful adults. Not boring...just considerate (RE: volume, plumbing, dirty dishes) Please don't leave leftover and/or open food in the bedroom. No major cooking to be done. Just light cooking (stovetop) ***No one brought back to house who is not one of the AIRbnb renters.

Karen is a special host and her home is so charming. She made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble for her. I can't rate the experience highly enough. Thank you Karen! If we're ever back in NOLA, guess where we'll be staying!
Karen's house was more than just a place to sleep. Her house and neighborhood became our home away from home. I was initially a bit leery of the Bywater neighborhood, but the charm, people, and restaurants were fantastic. Our our last day, we hung out there instead of the French Quarter.
Karen provide us lots of great advice on restaurants, parking, taxis, and all things New Orleans. She even let us borrow her lawn chairs for the Jazz Fest. Highly recommended.
Great stay in very private and comfortable surroundings. Good bed, pleasant seating area and large bath. Good location in a fun neighborhood with artists and other colorful amenities. Karen was very knowledgeable about nearby restaurants (walkable) all with great food. How do they do it in NOLA?! Walkable to the French Quarter (just over a mile) with city bus service nearby. In addition Karen has leads on reliable cabbies which helps getting to/from the airport. Overall I would stay again and definitely recommend.
We had a wonderful time staying with Karen, and she was helpful in every aspect, from music recommendations to bus routes! We appreciated the delicious cookie on Easter, and poached pears (yumm). The walk to the Frnch quarter is lovely from there, with many interesting routes. Thanks Karen
The house was beautiful; classic "shotgun" style. The room was large and comfortable, and really more of a suite. We had a private bathroom.
The location was great too--convenient to the French Quarter, but also peaceful. Lots of great coffee shops and restaurants in the area within walking distance.
Karen was very friendly and a kind host. She was respectful to give us privacy, while still being warm and hospitable. She was also terrific with our young daughter, who thoroughly enjoyed her company.
We highly recommend staying here.
I had a great time in NOLA. The house was lovely and comfortable. Karen was really welcoming. She offered great recommendations and suggestions. It was a little hard to find a cab in the neighborhood unless reserve one in advance. But everything else was great and I would recommend it!
Staying in the Bywater area of NOLA was a gem of an experience. The home was festive, beautiful and well appointed. We had everything we could ever need staying with Karen. The house was quiet and restorative. We used United Cab for our evening trips to the quarter or restaurants and enjoyed our walks during the day. Karen is a generous spirit and fun person and an informed host.

Born and raised in New York. Been a New Orleanean for over a decade (but have been coming down since mid 80s) Photographer, easy going, not much in frig so you are on your own in that department. Huge clean frig for you to fill up. I will be very helpful with info but will stay out of your way so that you'll feel like you've got the place to yourself, if that's what you're looking for :)

Zagat rated comfort food. Known for their Sat. and Sun. brunches, but I feel the everyday lunch and dinner menus are excellent. Very casual but food is sublime. YUM!601 Gallier St New Orleans LA 70117
