About this listing
I completely loved my stay with Kurt and bis family! The room was delightful, clean, and spacious. The sunset view from the wrap-around porch was stunning. I felt so pleasantly nurtured by the fresh fruit and coffee breakfast grown right their farm.
A very nice bedroom with private bath in a very nice house in a very nice part of the Big Island. Stay on a small coffee/macadamia nut plantation. Enjoy your stay in Kona without breaking the bank. Price includes a big breakfast, use of snorkel equipment, wifi throughout the house. Truly magnificent ocean views of Kealakekua Bay.
The room has a double bed and a twin bed. There's a nice view out the large window of the garden and orchard, and a wonderful skylight tor enjoying the stars at night. We have a table set up on the lanai to take in magnificent ocean sunsets.
A great location for exploring the Big Island. Nearby you will find some of Hawaii's best ocean activities, nature hikes, and archeological sites (The Place of Refuge National Park is a ten minute drive). This is rural Hawaii at its finest, yet there are several fine (and reasonable) restaurants and a supermarket five minutes drive away.
Complimentary beach and snorkel equipment, beach towels, hair dryers, refrigerator, microwave. Guests are welcome to congregate any place in the house, including a magnificent balcony that looks out over the ocean. . It's a great place to watch the sun go down. There's also a table in the garden area in front of the house for guests.
Interaction with Guests
On check in we give the guests a brief tour of what's available for them. The host almost always joins the guests after breakfast and over a cup of coffee he will make suggestions about things to see and do that may not be in "normal" guide books. Our aim is that you will have a truly exceptional experience on the Big Island and we do our part to help make that happen.
Guests that wish may join the host, schedule permitting, for a tour of coffee, macadamia and various tropical plants. Learn about the uses of some of these plants by the ancient Hawaiians on your tour led by Dr. Weigelt.
There is a tremendous ocean view at this bed and breakfast. It's a rural setting -- Old Hawaii at its finest. No close houses, no highway noise, a wonderful variety of tropical trees and plants and birds. Peaceful to say the least. Yet, it's only five minutes drive to some fine and reasonable restaurants and a supermarket and a ten minute drive to some of Hawaii's finest snorkeling and hiking. Many guests like to get take away food from one of the nearby restaurants, swing by the supermarket and pick up some beer or wine or fruit drinks, bring it home and watch the sunset from the lanai.
Public transportation on the outer Hawaiian Islands is poor. Although there's the occasional bus, I'd very strongly suggest renting a car. Besides helping you get here, it will allow you to explore the intriguing nooks and crannies of the Big Island. You won't regret that investment. If you're from one of the countries that drive on the left side of the road, people drive quite courteously here -- you'll adjust quickly and painlessly.
Other Things to Note
Hawaii State taxes applied to your accommodation are 13.42%. While we wish we didn't have to charge this extra fee--we are required by the state to collect it for them. This is the only additional fee paid to the hosts after check in. There are no "single-night stay fees", no parking fees, no other fees of any kind.
In our 15 enjoyable years of running the Beautiful Edge of the World, we've found that there is only one "rule" --to be considerate of others. Our guests have virtually always been so.
Kurts B&B esa amazing, Very friendly and cozy, breakfast alerta delicious with fresh fruits from the garden. The location is perfect to reach the best snorkeling beaches . Many thanks !!!
Kurt was on vacation so Louise was our contact. Lovely place and breakfasts were fabulous! Louise was very helpful and knowledgeable of places to eat and places to go visit. We loved sitting on the balcony and watching the ocean while we ate our breakfast. We would definitely come again. Thank you.
This was way better than we even expected! The terrace and the view are great, the room is clean and nice and there is a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere in the whole house. The breakfast was delicious.
There were some nice restaurants in the area. Also some great snorkeling spots! But the house is so nice that you can spend some time just relaxing on the terrace.
We didn't get to meet Kurt, but Louise was super open and friendly and made us feel like home and more right away. Thank you, Louise! Let us know, when you come to Finland!
I didn't meet Kurt as he was on vacation, but he left his life story in a folder in the room so I feel like I know him a little. Managing on his behalf was Louise, who was super helpful and on-point with the communication, even connecting us with other guests who brought us something we left behind to the other side of the island.
Spent a lot of time in the hammock curled up with Chibi, their cat, it took all I had not to take her with me. The house itself is excellent and hidden away. The coffee is amazeballs and grown on the property.
3/4 of the way through Kurt's life story, he halts to mention he doesn't want you using his kitchen. That's kinda a big omission chief! It needs to be on the listing as a house rule. But I did shake my fist at the couple of guests he wrote about who almost burnt down the house, that's poor form.
Loved the ability to borrow coolers, chairs, etc. -- super convenient! Thanks Kurt and Louise!
My kids and I really enjoyed the days we spent at the Edge of the World. This trip was my birthday getaway and I will no doubt call it one of the best birthdays I had - thanks to Kurt, Kana and Jenna. The view from the lanai is absolutely breathtaking, it mixes up with the scent of coffee and flowers around the house. The hosts have a great taste for music, it plays in the background and contributes greatly to the most romantic and relaxing surroundings. Room is very comfortable, you have everything you need in there. Breakfast is exactly the way I like it - with coffee, and a lot of fruit from the garden. Kids loved pancakes with macadamia that Kana made for us)) Kurt has a lot of great tips as to where to go and what to see in the Big Island, his advice was very useful. All in all, I wish we could stay longer, I do hope to come again and definitely will prefer to stay at the same place.
Kurt and Kana made us feel very welcome in their home. We had a lovely time at The Edge B&B! Breakfasts were big and delicious, the rooms were clean, and the company was great.
Kurt took the time off his work to welcome us. He was friendly and provided good information.
