About this listing
I completely loved my stay with Kurt and bis family! The room was delightful, clean, and spacious. The sunset view from the wrap-around porch was stunning. I felt so pleasantly nurtured by the fresh fruit and coffee breakfast grown right their farm.
A very nice bedroom with private bath in a very nice house in a very nice part of the Big Island. Stay on a small coffee/macadamia nut plantation. Enjoy your stay in Kona without breaking the bank. Price includes a big breakfast, use of snorkel equipment, wifi throughout the house. Truly magnificent ocean views of Kealakekua Bay.
The room has a double bed and a twin bed. There's a nice view out the large window of the garden and orchard, and a wonderful skylight tor enjoying the stars at night. We have a table set up on the lanai to take in magnificent ocean sunsets.
A great location for exploring the Big Island. Nearby you will find some of Hawaii's best ocean activities, nature hikes, and archeological sites (The Place of Refuge National Park is a ten minute drive). This is rural Hawaii at its finest, yet there are several fine (and reasonable) restaurants and a supermarket five minutes drive away.
Complimentary beach and snorkel equipment, beach towels, hair dryers, refrigerator, microwave. Guests are welcome to congregate any place in the house, including a magnificent balcony that looks out over the ocean. . It's a great place to watch the sun go down. There's also a table in the garden area in front of the house for guests.
Interaction with Guests
On check in we give the guests a brief tour of what's available for them. The host almost always joins the guests after breakfast and over a cup of coffee he will make suggestions about things to see and do that may not be in "normal" guide books. Our aim is that you will have a truly exceptional experience on the Big Island and we do our part to help make that happen.
Guests that wish may join the host, schedule permitting, for a tour of coffee, macadamia and various tropical plants. Learn about the uses of some of these plants by the ancient Hawaiians on your tour led by Dr. Weigelt.
There is a tremendous ocean view at this bed and breakfast. It's a rural setting -- Old Hawaii at its finest. No close houses, no highway noise, a wonderful variety of tropical trees and plants and birds. Peaceful to say the least. Yet, it's only five minutes drive to some fine and reasonable restaurants and a supermarket and a ten minute drive to some of Hawaii's finest snorkeling and hiking. Many guests like to get take away food from one of the nearby restaurants, swing by the supermarket and pick up some beer or wine or fruit drinks, bring it home and watch the sunset from the lanai.
Public transportation on the outer Hawaiian Islands is poor. Although there's the occasional bus, I'd very strongly suggest renting a car. Besides helping you get here, it will allow you to explore the intriguing nooks and crannies of the Big Island. You won't regret that investment. If you're from one of the countries that drive on the left side of the road, people drive quite courteously here -- you'll adjust quickly and painlessly.
Other Things to Note
Hawaii State taxes applied to your accommodation are 13.42%. While we wish we didn't have to charge this extra fee--we are required by the state to collect it for them. This is the only additional fee paid to the hosts after check in. There are no "single-night stay fees", no parking fees, no other fees of any kind.
In our 15 enjoyable years of running the Beautiful Edge of the World, we've found that there is only one "rule" --to be considerate of others. Our guests have virtually always been so.
