It is suitable for traveling families, writers, yoga, artists, biking or trekking enthusiasts to create and relax in the peace and quiet of the "REAL" Bali.
Guests can relax while watching the surrounding daily life in the rice fields and mountain views from various lounging areas and patios. One of these lookouts is the tall Gazebo or “Bale” in Balinese. It sits above the shared separated exterior kitchen which is fully equipped with cooking facilities but we recommend you to taste our traditional meals offered twice daily.
The Swallow Guesthouse is designed with Balinese tradition in mind. All the building, wood carving and furnishings are made by hand by local craftsmen. Guests can feel the warmth and passion that has been given to make this dream home come true.
There is a short 300m paved walking or bike path that leads away from the main road. Guests enjoy as it’s extremely peaceful and quiet. The short walk brings you alongside the rice and water stream allowing you to leave all your stresses behind. If you want to rent a motorbike, or bicycle for the time you are with us, please ask Wayan to help you.
Your Guest Service hosts Wayan and Putri, are there to assist you in accommodating you to your new home. Please discuss (anything) with Wayan. He has a wealth of information which he thoroughly enjoys sharing and is eager to answer any questions. It’s their pleasure to make your stay comfortable and stress-free. Don’t be surprised if they dress you up in the traditional clothing and whisk you off to a temple ceremony or family feast.
Wayan, a 21 year experienced English speaking tour guide and driver, would like to guide you to experience the REAL culture of Bali where you can explore ancient monuments, sacred temples, and the family compound witnessing the Bali of Ancient times still alive today without all the tourists.
If you desire assistance in airport or hotel pick-up, travel excursions for pleasure or business, he can help you arrange the details.
Putri, Wayan's lovely and very talented wife Putri, is our Indonesian chef extraordinaire. Guests continue to say: "This has been my best meal in Bali" and "I want to take her home!" Fortunately for you, she loves Bali and creates large delicious dishes using fresh garden vegetables from our organic garden and local produce bought early in the Pejeng market. Please order 1 day in advance so she can buy the fresh produce in the morning market. If you want to join her and take a cooking lesson, don't hesitate to ask!
Specialty items like bread, cheese or yogurt can be purchased in Ubud and stored in your refrigerator.
“It’s perfect for me to study, better than I dreamed it would be.”

Who is Suzan Badgley?
I was born in 1962 in North Vancouver, known to locals as “Lotus land”. As a young child, I respected all living things in mountain and ocean environments and, at the age of three when I began to travel, I learned about the diversities and similarities in different cultural settings.
Influenced by the First Nations People how to be one with the land and spirit, I began exploring the world on my own, volunteering my services in exchange for food and lodging: and later, after acquiring a Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism, and a BA degree in Adult Education, was employed in managerial and teaching positions both in Canada and Asia.
68 countries later, I‘m blessed with a broad perspective of the world we live in and the people we perceive we are. When asked "Which is your most favourite place you have travelled to?" India, a country full of vast diversities, changed my life at the age of 25. It opened and challenged my mind and body; stimulated my six senses like no other experience in the past. I further learned about ancient cultures, social and family responsibility, and Buddhist philosophy while working in South Korea and Japan over a 15 year period.
I spent many winters in Bali, feeling a sense of home, perhaps a place of past life reincarnation, feeling comforted by the ancient Balinese culture and karmic ways, remembering "the Ring of Fire" in middle school when my finger was drawn to this tiny equatorial island on my well-worn map.
It was this time that I met Wayan Tagel, a wonderful man who lives by karma and loves to share his culture and family ceremonies. He became my sponsor, and I his supporter. For the past 12 years, my Canadian- based business, Swallow House Trading, has assisted in the marketing of the Swallow Guesthouse in the REAL Bali.
In Bali, needs are put forth to the Gods, a ceremony is done and right action is continued. The Gods do listen... As a westerner, I’m amazed at how things manifest when you put your dreams outwards.
Now semi-retired, I'm closely learning ancient lifestyle preserved by a unique combination of spirit and community belief. Enjoying sharing this knowledge to assist in the betterment of our environment and the beings upon it is my passion.
May I share with you? It would be my pleasure.
