Franklin's 80 Loons offers a modern, cheerful one-bedroom apartment with AC, a full-sized bed, cot & convertible couch. Driveway parking on quiet residential street. Short walk to new rail trail, Lake Flower & downtown shops, galleries & restaurants. This comfortable private space is the perfect base camp for hiking, skiing, snowboarding, cycling & paddling activities. Relax in the evening with a book, puzzle, board game, or campfire. Celebrate the Adirondacks with us. House also available.

The space
The apartment features one full-size bed, a cot and a couch that is easily converted to a single bed and an open kitchen/dining room/living room concept. We provide ample pillows, linens and blankets. The kitchen is outfitted with pots and pans, silverware, plates, cups and bowls, and various cooking utensils. Also provided are spices, condiments, cooking oil, coffee, tea, cocoa and paper products - as well as snacks! In the bathroom you'll find a heated towel rack and a comfortable shower along with towels, wash cloths, shampoo, conditioner and soaps. Other amenities include a microwave, Keurig machine, Alexi, W-Fi, television, grill and fire pit. The laundry room is shared with the upper house. There are also magazines and books about the Adirondacks and information about restaurants and places to visit.

Guest access
In addition to the apartment itself, guests are welcome to use the laundry facilities, which are accessed through a door to right of the stove (shared with house guests), as well as the deck and grill outside the apartment and fire pit in the fenced-in yard below. Wood can be purchased at the Fusion Market and at Stewart's.

Other things to note
There is a lot to do in the area - here are some highlights that come to mind. The saranaclake website is a useful resource. As you settle in, a stroll along Lake Flower and around the main business area as well as the River Walk is rewarding. There are many interesting shops (including an excellent toy store) and art galleries. Don't miss the Loon Center. The Adirondack Carousel is within walking distance. You may enjoy the Saranac Lake 6er Hiking Challenge. You can purchase patches for each mountain they climb from the hiking shop near the Blue Moon Cafe. We have the patches in frames that are placed above the doors to some of the rooms. Close by the house is Baker Mountain. It’s a short hike, about a mile each way, and the views are fairly decent. Our favorite mountain is Amperstand. Views of the many lakes and mountains from the peak are magnificent. The four other mountains are nearby as well. Mount Jo to the east of Lake Placid is a kid-friendly mountain as is Mount Arab near Tupper Lake. For flat hikes, try the Bloomingdale Bog Hike just a few miles north of the house and the Barnum Brook trail at Paul Smith's College VIC further north of the house. (Teddy Roosevelt wrote a birding book about the birds he saw when visiting the Barnum Brook area when he was a young man. The trail crosses the brook four times.) A visit to the Wild Center in Tupper Lake is another highlight. The indoor exhibits are excellent, and the unusual outdoor exhibits are a lot of fun. We especially enjoy the music in the forest. The newest outdoor exhibit is like a huge marble shoot. Racket River Brewing in Tupper Lake has excellent beer and ambience as well as two or three food trucks. Our current favorite restaurant is Bitters and Bones, which is nearby, just a pleasant walk downtown. We also enjoy sitting outside at the Lakeside Drift, enjoying a meal near the shore of Lake Flower. Little Italy has excellent pizza. For smoothies and healthy food, don't miss taking a short walk to Nori's. Mixed drinks are quite good at Hotel Saranac. The Blue Moon Cafe is perfect for breakfast/brunch. Grizzle-Ts has excellent burgers. Casa del Sol has decent Mexican. The Chinese restaurant in Lake Placid is quite good. If you’re up for bicycling, bike rentals are available, and you can enjoy the new rail trail by accessing it a short distance from the house. It is quite lovely heading towards Lake Clear although the trip to Lake Placid is nice also. Kayak and canoe rentals are available from Saint Regis Canoe Outfitters in town. They can help you launch on the Saranac River. You might also relax with a campfire in our backyard. Wood can be purchased at Stewart's or the Fusion Market.

Neighborhood highlights

This quiet residential street is easily accessible from several directions. Most of the homes are historic "cure" cottages built in the early 1900s. Clear mountain air was thought to be a cure for tuberculosis. The homes feature lots of windows and porches.
