The Space

High ceilings make this bantam-sized one-bedroom apartment nestled in the heart of the Fan, especially if you consider the heart to be sort of on the edge near the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, look large. The guest nook is a small dining area with curtains. Before you come I'll transform it into your bedroom, so please confirm sooner than later. The space accommodates a luxurious 22" high twin AeroBed with adjustable firmness remote control and little else.

We have been told by our guests that one of the main selling points is the AWESOME LOCATION, so check out the area info at the end below, our wonderful guests' reviews, and my photos of the area.

See the House Rules for info on the required Rental Lease Agreement.

Guest Access

The apartment is on the first floor of a turn-of-the-century modern remodeled rowhouse with three other apartments (two up, two down), it boasts central heat/air, back deck, floor-to-ceiling windows, a full bath with shower, and full galley kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, and supplies for cooking, dining, sleeping and bathing. Two sweet kitties live in the apartment full time. The bedroom is off-limits.

Interaction with Guests

We don't always get to meet our guests, and we are either here, or in or out, or out of town.

One or both of us may or may not be here when you are here, but we will leave everything ready for you to check in and out either way. Kitchen, bath and main living area are shared if we're here.

The Neighborhood

We're situated conveniently between Carytown, VCU, and the Downtown Business District. It's an easy walking distance to many bars, restaurants, shopping, parks, and world-class museums. For great highlights, search the interwebs for: redskins fans guide richmond washingtonpost written on 7/17/13, and see the guidebook of my other property for more info about the area - https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/53124/guidebook/. Also check out our reviews for more deets - our guests are the best. :)

Getting around

We're within a block of the GRTC bus line. Parking is free on the street (pay attention to signs in case of construction/cleaning). If you can't find parking nearby, please let me know and I'll try to help if I can. After you book, you'll receive detailed instructions on how to find us by car, rail, or air.

Other Things to Note

We love dogs! If you are bringing a dog, please confirm that it's not aggressive toward cats because the two apartments share the back deck where kitties can lounge, and for the safety of the other tenant's cats. Sorry, no cats. Back deck is fenced but yard is not.

A portion of proceeds benefit our local NPR affiliate WCVE, WVTF Radio IQ, FeedMore, James River Outdoor Coalition, and other great causes.

  • Julie was so kind and accommodating- I was in Richmond for the Anthem Marathon and loved staying with Julie! Her location was perfect for quick access to downtown Richmond and the nook was indeed cozy! The bed was incredibly comfortable and Julie was kind enough to work with me regarding my race schedule. Couldn't recommend her place highly enough!

    Response from Julie & Eric:

    Thanks Carolyn! Enjoyed it.

  • Julie's Nook is a great place for anyone needing or wanting to stay in the museum/Fan area of Richmond. I was there for 5 days while doing research at the VDHR and Archives. It was a nice short walk to the museum area and even a nice bike ride- as Julie was kind enough to let me borrow her cycle to see the town! True to the listing name, Julie had a nice airbed set up in a cozy little nook. She is very knowledgeable about her city. A great host!

  • Julie is a wonderful host, very attentive, she graciously offered me dinner when I arrived late in the evening and we had fun hanging out for a little before turning in for the night.she went out of her way to create a map of interesting cafes and restaurants along with cluing me into a Dale Chihuly show that was at the art museum at the time.
the nook is incredibly cozy and comfortable I slept well and slept in, and in great comfort. her home is Immaculate, and decorated with her mother's fabulous paintings, it was a real treat being a guest there.

  • This place was excellent! Julianna's home is lovely and very comfortable. If I had not been so busy running around at the French Film Festival I would have enjoyed spending more time there. I slept like a baby. Thank you Julianna!

About
Julie: I'm an IT project manager and Viking. I love to be outside, travel, train cats, and pet puppies. I speak French and Spanish quite poorly, but I try. German and Italian are worse, and then comes American Sign Language (ASL). Five things I'd rather not do without: sunshine, fresh air, laughter, cheese, and my cheery and respectful boyfriend Eric (not in that order). As hosts, Eric and I are pretty laid back and hands off. We work hard to be helpful if you need anything specific (check out the map on my profile for a few cool things) - just ask. Eric lives in the apartment (see our "Apartment" listing) so we're usually here (in the "Nook" listing), or in and out, or out of town - it's usually a last-minute decision. As guests we're quiet and respectful, sensitive to the hosting style. We will go out of our way to keep things clean, neat and in great condition.
