Our place is one of many best kept secrets in the Historic town of Granville, located in the foothills of the Berkshires.

The Space

Extraordinary, custom-designed cook's kitchen which takes center stage. The eat-and-lounge-in kitchen features multiple work spaces, sinks and other design details and surprises, small fridges and a separate freezer located in the laundry room.

Two living rooms are separated by a two-sided working fireplace. Very modest media center, really just a flat screen with cable,a Roku box for Netflix instant downloads and Pandora.

Two king sized-beds upstairs, plus an antique twin bed. Important note: upstairs has a semi-open floor plan. This means that while there are few actual walls dividing sleeping quarters, the space is very large and separated by a study, a walk-through closet, and an enormous roman-style bath. Tub is an Airbath, easily large enough for two. Separate W.C.

Downstairs is another full bathroom with shower.

Sleeps five. Maybe six.

Mostly stone and glass, finished concrete (radiant heat) floors downstairs. Which means it stays cool in the summer. Mod meets romantic meets wabi-sabi/shabby-chic/eco-conscious.

(Well-behaved) dogs welcome, because we know that most people who bring there dogs on vacation are super considerate and respectful.

Good to know - we are on five acres, with town forest behind us. If the neighbors behave it can be completely - we do have nice neighbors - even unreasonably, quiet. A small guest house is also on the property, which is (sometimes) also available for rent (see separate listing on this site/page)

Guest Access

Laundry room with a combo washer dryer.

Interaction with Guests

We are not always here, but when we are we stay out of your way, but are always available for anything you need.

The Neighborhood

It's a cozy home base for apple, peach, and berry-pickers, antique lovers, skiers and boarders (small downhill slopes are close by, great for first-timers). Just around the corner is really good cross-country.

For serious hikers the famous Tunxis trail is walking/hiking distance. or a short 10 min drive to a trail head. Equine and a Wilderness Adventures outfit also a short drive.

The Granville Gorge is good for cooling off, but the Barkhamsted Reservoir has a "secret" public beach (Lake McDonough), which is equally popular with locals.

Longer excursions include Northampton, Amherst and Great Barrington. Also Tanglewood and Jacob's Pillow for music and dance.

Getting around

How to get here: We are @ 2 1/2 hours from both NYC and Boston. One option is to take Amtrak, Peter Pan Express, or MetroNorth and then rent a car. Or just rent a car.

If the timing is right and you just want a place to hide for a few days we can pick you up from Hartford or Springfield.

  • Aina and Margie were great! They were always available and responsive. The place is exactly how it is listed... And even better! It was an enchanting, eco-modern meets rustic-japanese. Every single crevice of the location has been designed thoughtfully, and lovingly. It was perfect for my boyfriend and I. He is a musician and he said,"This is the perfect place for me and my group to seclude to and make an album". The town of Granville is green and lush. If you like to cook and get away- this is it. We went to the Granville Gorge- a flowing river that runs through giant rocks. It is a destination that i will definitely return to.

  • We had a fantastic stay at the stone palace in Granville! The property was as described. The open layout is really nice and I especially loved the little Asian touch throughout the property. Kitchen was big and well equipped for any kind of cooking you intended to do. Fireplace kept us warm at night. The bath tub was large and perfect! Our dog loved running around the backyard and the woods. We went out for a mini hike at the Granville Gorge, which was nice. We had a perfect stay and will definitely be back.

  • We had a great time at the Stone Place - it exceeded our expectations. We were having a wedding in the area and used the house and cabin for out of town quests. It was very rustic. The living room with fireplace was great to get together to talk and relax - there is a large table in living area where we were able to get us all around to eat and to play games. The large kitchen was where we spent a lot of the time. The refrigerators were small - but worked for us.
Unfortunately it was a rainy weekend so did not get to explore the wooded area.
It has an open floor plan with plenty of room. The cabin is small and rustic and fun. The area and yard is beautiful - rural and wooded. Everything worked. The fireplace and air tub is great and relaxing.
I was worried about how hard it would be to get to - but it really was no problem.
Aina and Margie were very nice, easy to work with and responded quickly to any questions we had.
This was my first experience with Airbnb and will use it again.

  • We loved our time at Stone Palace. It was a great place to get some writing done - with all the glass windows we really were in the forest. Other favorites of the house were the kitchen (nearest supermarket 15-20 min) fireplace and natural materials used in the home. Aina and Margie were prompt, kind and professional in all our correspondence. It was a very positive experience.

  • We had an amazing time! The space was incredible, especially the kitchen. I highly suggest bringing groceries and cooking. They have everything you need!

Aina and Margie were amazing hosts and very communicative even though we never met them in person.

We hope to return again to explore other seasons at the lovely palace. Thanks Aina and Margie!

  • We stayed for a snowy February weekend at the Stone Palace. It's awesome: clean, well decorated, and just plain great. Everything is well thought out, seems custom designed and is nicer than the pictures do justice.

The host communication was perfect! We spent most of our time about an hour north in North Hampton, MA. If you like Indian, check out India House for dinner there.

  • The house was exactly as described and more. It was so unique with something interesting to look at everywhere you turned. It was very neat and clean and extremely well organized. The master bed was super comfy and the oversized tub was awesome. The owners were kind, helpful, and responded quickly to all my emails. I would definitely recommend a stay here :-)

  • Aina & Margie's place is great! Spacious, clean, and with lots of unique design details throughout the home, the space was perfect for a weekend getaway that was solely about relaxing. Though we were just two, the home would be great for a larger group/family so long as you don't mind the open-space/loft layout sleeping arrangement. Amazing kitchen, living room, bathroom, and property all around - plus the hosts were very responsive!

We are a fun, traveling couple with a pied-a-terre in NYC and a home in the Berkshire foothills between which we split our time. We like to snowboard, dive, play croquet, tango, experiment with cooking and gardening (and maybe chickens one day) and hosting people who love NYC and/or bucolic western Massachusetts hill towns. We try to be environmentally thoughtful, especially important in Massachusetts, as our home is on a septic system and we drink well water. So we try to use organics and sustainable cleaning products whenever possible. We enjoy massive building projects (currently planning to create a hori kotatsu room in the cabin, so if anyone has specialized knowledge, trade could be possible) Important! We love it when guests bring or leave food (Margie especially).
