Interaction with Guests
Interaction is up to you. We are glad to give tips and pointers and send you on your way...or we can say nothing at all... Let us know what you would like...
The historic homes and architectural details are quite nice here. It is truly one of the last places left where you can get a city-side home with lots of space and detail for almost nothing. Of course, the neighborhood is in transition and a bit of common sense and good judgement goes a long way.
NOTE: We love our house and our location. For us, everything is just a short drive away. We have never had a problem living here, but you can see some transient dicey people. As in any city, know your environment.
We are south of and less than two miles from the city center. This translates to about a 30 minute walk, a fifteen minute bus-ride, or a ten minute drive into the city. Parking in the city is abundant and inexpensive with many options available.
There is a bus route on each end of the street.
We always recommend the #20 into the city on the Elmwood Avenue side which will take you directly to Kennedy Plaza.
There is also the new "R" line express into the city, but this stop is a longer walk from the house.
A good local landmark to start your day would be the Knight Memorial Library on Elmwood Avenue.
Other Things to Note
EFFECTIVE 01 JULY 2015. RHODE ISLAND STATE LAW HAS REQUIRED ALL SHORT TERM RENTAL PROPERTIES UNDER 30 DAYS TO COLLECT A 14% TAX. (7% STATE TAX, + 1% LOCAL TAX + 6% HOTEL TAX).
No smoking anywhere on site please.
We have an alarm and like to keep the house locked and alarmed when no one is home. We will give you a key and personal code on your arrival and show you how it works...
If you have a car, please make your keys available as the overnight parking is in Tandem.
Please no unauthorized guests while you are staying with us...
We are typically flexible with check-in and check-out...
HOWEVER...the most ideal check-in would be after 4:30pm M-F. Please remember we work during the week and late night check-ins make us grumpy... (still lovable, but grumpy)
Weekends are usually much more flexible.
Geoff and Chris have a wonderful house and I had a fantastic stay with them. They were both fantastic hosts - welcoming but very relaxed and accommodating, and made me feel at home without being intrusive in any way. The bedroom is great - just as advertised and pretty comfortable to sleep in. They shared a bunch of great food recommendations throughout the week I was there and offered some great tips on how to navigate the city. They were especially invaluable whenever I needed some local advice, such as where to go running in the morning. I would definitely stay with them again!
I had a wonderful stay at Geoff and Chris's beautiful home. It was very comfortable, exactly what I needed for my trip, and they are lovely people who went far and beyond in their hospitality. They were very helpful in their recommendations on getting around town, dining, etc. I highly recommend them, and look forward to returning to stay with them in Providence again.
This is our second time in Providence with Gigi and Chris and we received nothing but true hospitality. They made us feel like we were at home in RI.
The house is conveniently located near an important avenue and near downtown Providence and you can truly rest in the guest's bedroom.
If you're planning to visit Providence whether it's for pleasure or business this is the place to stay.
We like to be locals (and not so much tourists) in our trips and if you like to do the same the house is a truly historic house.
We recommend staying here!!!
My girlfriend and I had a great time. We weren't around too much because I was in town for a conference. Gigi made sure that we were comfortable. They we very nice and friendly with very helpful recommendations. I would definitely stay with them again!
Geoff and Chris were the consummate hosts! Their home is charming, warm, and inviting. The room was pleasant, clean, and comfortable. They opened their house to us as though we were family; always willing to get us things at the market, offer advice on where to go for a good meal as well as great places to visit. They opened up their kitchen, coffee and espresso makers and light breakfast every morning.
Illy and Bustelo (their cats) were also consummate hosts!! Always up for a good game or cuddle! Geoff and Chris's daughter Lauren visited while we were there and was such a delight... it's not often a teenager is willing to spend time with adults and yet, she did.
Mom and I would highly recommend reserving a room here. Very central to all the main arteries in Providence - close to downtown, quite neighborhood. Felt very safe and comfortable - as if it were my home away from home.
We were in Providence for a seminar I was attending and loved coming home each night to share the wondrous things I was learning not only with my Mom but with Geoff and Chris. We so enjoyed their company - fun to just hang out with and chat.
You can't go wrong staying at with Geoff and Chris. We give them 5 Star rating!!
Staying with Geoff and Chris made our trip to RI perfect. Their lovely, immaculate home was located a mile from our son. We came and went with ease once we had the alarm setting down! We liked that safety feature. The bed was super comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet. They installed a window AC which was great for the few nights it was hot, but the fan worked well the other nights. We used the wi-fi. Vernon fixed his own coffee in the morning. The fridge was there for us to use. Vernon moved our last in line car every morning so the men could leave for work, but having off street parking at all in Providence is a plus. And we loved the cats! We would stay here again.
About the Host, Gigi
We are a gay couple with three older girls who visit with us every other weekend. We tend to be over-cautious and try to keep only the days available that the girls are NOT staying with us.
The available dates are much more flexible in the summer vacation months as we can always swap the days to meet our (and your) schedule. For that reason, It is always better for us to reserve with us as many days in advance as possible.
We have two beautiful cats named Illy and Bustelo. They are a handful, but a lovable handful.
We like to travel and meet new people. I lived in Italy for five years and we return as often as possible. I would look forward to challenging my rusty Language skills.
I (Geoff) am currently working as a consultant for a few local architecture firms and my partner (Chris) works as a Human Services Coordinator for The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
We enjoy Providence and our neighborhood of Elmwood. We like to show it off to family and friends.
