World famous Seashell house has been featured in most unusual homes and HGTV :)
A brilliant architect (Eduardo) and his lovely wife (Raquel) constructed this incredibly unique property to enhance your stay on this tropical quiet island . I fell in love with them and The Seashell House or " Casa Caracol " after my first visit...I live nearby and am excited to be able to help them as they will be your hosts on this island paradise.
If busy pools with loud music and crowds is not your style then the SEASHELL HOUSES may be the perfect place for you and your family or loved one !

The taller shell has a sitting area downstairs and MINOR KITCHENETTE with a large fridge, microwave, gas stovetop and sink with a variety of dishes. The round sitting area also has a tv with satellite channels.
There is also a half bath off the sitting area.
Up a rounded staircase is the master bedroom with a KING BED and private bath with shower. There is a balcony over looking the pool and across the street , the Caribbean Sea.

THE HISTORY :
In 1994 architect Eduardo Ocampo arrived in Isla Mujeres and built a house for himself (and later met his wife Maria Raquel) His brother Octavio Ocampo visited frequently, Eduardo had two pieces of land in a quaint residential area with caribbean sea views....and wished to build on his lot for his brother.
Of course, this could not be any house. Octavio, a famous painter and needed something unique. Eduardo at first wanted a palala...but this was not allowed...having been very influenced by the "mountains" of seashells all around, he was inspired to actually construct a seashell. This would be the vacation home of his brother (in Cuernavaca) , it would be rounded on the inside, the spiral staircase... just inside the shell, a door where there was the mouth of the shell and windows with the form of shells
THE LEGEND :
Years later Eduardo would be tickled to learn that the islanders had created a sort of legend which goes like this ...
The fisherman of Isla Holbox met with the fisherman of Isla Mujeres to boast of their individual islands...Isla Holbox sounded "Our island is where you find the biggest fish in the world !"
The fisherman of Isla Mujeres responded "We are proud to have the biggest shell in the world !"
The biggest shell ?
Yes the biggest shell !!!
When we found it we made ceviche for all of the islanders...and then we sold it to a gringo that lives in it now !"
Though the owners are not gringos...they still laugh when they hear the legend.
Guests have access to the BBQ by the entrance gate as well .
I bring the experience to the world with appearances on HGTV and travel magazines but Raquel is the on site owner on the adjacent property . If you cannot find her for your needs you may interact with cleaning or pool staff or leave a message .
The neighborhood is beautifully peaceful and quiet . At night it is very dark and very serene .
A golf cart is necessary as the Seashell House is located in a residential area.
I serve to make your stay possible as I wanted to share it with the world but Raquel is the owner ... Please treat the homes with respect so that she continues to enjoy renting
We really enjoyed our stay here! The house is one-of-a-kind, and the owners are right next door in case of any issues. As long as you have your own transportation ( a golf cart is recommended), being on this, the quiet end of the island, is the place to be. A truly unique getaway!
Michele, un encanto de mujer y pura amabilidad. Nos trajo hasta el desayuno y se preocupó de que no nos faltara de nada. La casa es preciosa y el lugar transmite una paz increíble.
We stayed two nights at the Seashell House in january. It's a nice house who gets a lot of attention by people driving by. It's a little outdated inside, and could really need a bit of upgrading! Low water-preasure, and tired kitchen. A bit overpriced cuz of this I think, but it works ok. The older lady/owner next door is the sweetest thing on earth, and was there to help/answer questions 24/7. You DO need a car her(at least a golfcar), 100% for sure. The sea is across the road, but its rocky and high level over the sea. Great for walks though. Not possible to swim from there, so you need to drive to get the nice beaches!
Overall a nice experience :-)
My friend and I stayed at the sea shell house recently for 3 nights, it was wonderful! The owner Raquel could not have been any sweeter or helpful. When we arrived our golf cart had broken down up the street from the house and Raquel did not hesitate to call the company speak with the gentleman and arrange for a new golf cart to be brought up to the house! The house itself was beautiful and very private. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Thanks again Raquel for your wonderful hospitality and the nice welcome bottle of tequila!
Our stay in the seashell house was spectacular!! The hosts where amazing and very helpful. They offered to give us ride to downtown or even to the super market any time. The house is very unique and everyone on the island knows it.
We had an excellent stay at the Seashell house! The owner Raquel was so sweet and helpful. She drove us to the supermarket the first night, helped us rent a golf cart, and introduced us to her son who works at a hotel and rented us sun beds for free. The house was just as beautiful as in the pictures, it was clean and had all the necessary equipments. Our stay could not have been better, highly recommended!
Casa Caracol was a blast to stay at. The owner Raquel lives nextdoor and was more than helpful with anything we needed. The house is about a 20 minute ride from town on your rented golf cart. Or less than 10 by taxi. Great location away from the busy downtown area. Tourists stop by several times a day to take photos of the house. Nice little pool too.
Casa Caracol is simply amazing! It's a paradise, even better than in the pictures!
The communication was great, easy check-in with pick up at the airport included, and then a personal welcome by Raquel and Eduardo. Lovely couple!
Living next to the owner (and architect of the house) makes the experience even more authentic.
I would definitely come back!
We have a lovely stay in this wonderful house. The architects live just nearby the property and are very nice, always there to give advice. I highly recommend staying them if you have the chance to. Don't miss to go see the whale sharks if you're there between May and September!
Casa Caracol is quite literally Paradise on earth. The photos are wonderful but the reality surpasses all expectations. The house, swimming pool and gardens are all exquisitely designed, the beds dreamily comfortable and the a/c made sleeping at night in this hot Caribbean climate a joy. All contact, apart from the initial booking, was with the owners Raquel and Eduardo who live next door. They are wonderful, kind people who bent over backwards to help us, especially when our younger daughter got sick. There's lots to do on the island but frankly, we were happy to be at the house for over half the time, it is such a lovely place.
