We had a bit a of a shock at the commencement of our stay when we were told that our apartment had been double booked and the other guests were already in the unit. We then had some inconvenience driving down the coast to look at an alternative (unsuitable) accommodation and we experienced quite a bit of stress at that point during various discussions.
Joshua then organised an alternative unit the Waipouli Beach Resort which was OK but not as good as the unit we had booked and paid for. After further negotiations Joshua then arranged for us to transfer to an ocean front view unit for the the final 5 nights and he even came and helped move our bags to the new room and bought us a meal in the Grill to say sorry for the mistake which apparently had not occurred previously.
In the end I think we balanced out with what was provided vs. what was booked and paid for factoring in the adrenaline jolt we had on the first morning. I think that once Joshua recognised that we had come half way round the world for a relaxing experience that he needed to take responsibility for his oversight and I suspect if it ever happens again he will swing into recovery mode much quicker next time.
I cannot comment on the apartment we booked because we never saw inside it but the beach front unit was fabulous with a great view and all the facilities that you would want for a relaxing stay. The wifi had a weak signal in that unit and would benefit from a signal booster.
The Waipouli Beach Resort was in a great location central to both ends of the island and the shopping centre just across the road was perfect for supplies and the place had a nice relaxed feel.
The in house services for the resort were quite modest compared to other resorts we had stayed at and the beautiful looking pool was a bit disappointing as it had a maximum depth of 4 feet and was just 3 1/2 feet in most of it which is obviously aimed at the safety of children but a bit pointless for an adult, also despite the photographs the pool are was quit dimly lit at night which had less ambiance than we anticipated.
The beachfront area was beautiful and once we moved to the beach front unit we did not enter the pool area again preferring the beach or our balcony to relax on.
Joshua kindly left us a small bag of premium coffee beans which was just enough for our stay and apparently the president drinks that brand for breakfast (we can see why).
Overall in spite of the hiccup we thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Kauai and would be pleased to recommend Joshua as a host and the Waipouli Beach Resort to those who understand the various features and detractors of the complex.
We stayed at the Waipouli Beach Resort in Kapaa'a and it was fantastic. Beautiful resort amenities, a good restaurant (with the best oceanview dining on the island) right on site, easy parking, etc. They have an excellent pool and three hot tubs, one reserved for families, which I thought was particularly nice. We stayed in unit H304 which had ocean views from both bedrooms and the living area. Really spacious living space, high end furnishings, top of the line appliances, etc. Oh, and they have completely keyless entry, which is SO great. NO wrangling of keys, especially down by the pool. I wouldn't have changed a thing!
