The best thing about the apartment is the location. Its centrally located and within walk able distance from major tourist attractions. Mr. Giles was very helpful and friendly.
Apartment needs renovation and has old furniture.
I spent a long week end with my partner at Gilles' place and I would recommend it. The location is really convenient, walk distance from old Quebec with nearby groceries (both standard and biologic). The place is exactly as you see it in the pictures, and has a very well equipped kitchen. Gilles was kind and available to meet our needs.
super convenient place within short walk to old quebec and st-jean street where lots of things can be found. the place was fully equipped with all you need during your stay and the host was pleasant. i would choose this place again if i come back to quebec city.
Gilles is a very nice guy who gave us a quick tour of the house, told us a bit about the city. We only saw him once after that while walking into the house as he was walking out. The house has a great location in easy walking distance of the Old City. The pictures are accurate. The on street parking in the area is only for one to two hours during the day. You will have to pay a lot more to park for 24 hours in a lot. If you assume that the rate reflects the student housing feel of the place, it is a great deal in a really great location.
I will start with the good things. Gilles was very chipper and happy to give us directions. The kitchenette and bathroom were impeccably clean. The location is very close to the Old City and extremely walkable.
On the other hand, we had to witness Gilles yelling at his wife and son, and accusing them of ruining his reputation because of a plugged toilet. It really wasn't that bad, but his reaction was disturbing. When we left, he asked me for feedback. I started saying that the couch could be more comfortable, but he interrupted me and said that "everyone else" put the futon over the couch. His tone was not friendly. I also said that the room was damp and chilly, and the apartment could use a dehumidifier. He interrupted me again and said there was one (I didn't see it anywhere, just a fan in the bedroom that we couldn't turn off because the room started to smell when we did), and he also said that "everyone else" said the room was cool and comfortable. He tried to make me feel like I was stupid and a whiner, which is emphatically not the case. Perhaps it's better in the winter when the air is drier. I don't know.
I didn't feel up to mentioning to him that the sheets were threadbare and mismatched, and smelled slightly of Thrift Store...
So, in short, if you're somewhat indifferent to your surroundings, and all you require is a cheap rental close to the Old City, this is the place for you.
