  • This proved to be a perfect place to stay in Washington. We were given detailed notes on the locale and things to do in Washington. We were very pleasantly surprised by the town house and it suit all of us very well indeed.

  • Upon our early arrival, Ellen graciously met us and gave us a tour of her darling home. She made us feel comfortable and welcome from the moment we arrived. Her home in the Eastern Market neighborhood was just perfect for our family of four. Our 11-year old daughter especially enjoyed having the downstairs to herself! The living room had plenty of comfortable seating, the kitchen was well equipped, and it's always so nice to have two full bathrooms! We had easy access to the Metro and were delighted to have such a variety of restaurants to choose from around the corner! Thank you for a great stay, Ellen!

  • Wow,
We stayed at Ellen's row house for the 2013 inauguration - the entire trip was awesome.
Ellen herself was a delight to text, email and finally meet - you feel as though you are coming home even prior to your arrival.
She has a charming home steps from the capitol and a peaceful charming neighborhood.
She has the perfect place for 2-4 people - the bedrooms, baths are great - but the main room is a fantatically place with great lighting thru out and you can totally relax.

If we make it back to wa dc will definitely look ellen up and hope to stay again.

  • Ellen went to great lengths to accommodate us and make our stay comfortable. She even put up a Christmas tree! Her home is very cheery and in a great location, in the midst of restaurants, markets, shops, and within walking distance to The Library of Congress, the Capitol, and other landmarks. Our 8 days at Ellen's made for a memorable Christmas vacation. Highly recommended.

  • Ellen's home was very comfortable and clean. Her style is very nice and cozy. The location was excellent as well. It is on the block of the Eastern Market food market, and on weekends there is a fun flea market with lots of cool stuff to look at and/or buy, many made by local artists. It is also close to the Library of Congress and the Mall where many of the museums and memorials are located. Lovely walking city. I would highly recommend Ellen's home for your next home away from home while staying in Washington D.C. Ellen is a very nice, welcoming and accommodating person. She made sure everything was clean and in order before we arrived.

  • Ellen's house is a delight. It was clean, comfortable and charming. A good location - less than 5 minutes walk from Eastern Market metro. Ellen was very helpful - providing details about the house, the surrounding area and what to see in Washington DC. She made us feel very much at home. Unfortunately, as we were on a work trip, we didn't get the chance to see as much of the city as we would have liked - an incentive for a return visit!

I'm a freelance writer and former high school English teacher who got tired of dealing with overbearing parents and left teaching three years ago. I often visit my family in Michigan, so my home is available at various times throughout the year. In 1990, I came to DC to attend GWU, graduated, and left DC for about 10 years. During that interval, I lived in Thailand, New York City, Chicago, Boston, and Egypt. Some highlights of my travels include being chased by a monkey in Thailand, seeing the pyramids in Egypt, and being spat on by a shaman in Peru. I returned to DC eight years ago and have lived on Capitol Hill for the past four years. I feel like I'm finally setting down some roots, but I'm always up for a trip somewhere, whether it's a few days in New York to attend the US Open or a weekend in Boston, visiting friends. I love this neighborhood because it feels like a small community, complete with great coffee shops and restaurants as well as friendly neighbors and wonderful outdoor spaces.
