The Space

The house is located on Euclid Avenue - the downtown edge of the Trinity Bellwoods neighbourhood - a lushly treed area that is a brief walk from the centre of the city. No need to have a car here.

The house is one of the older homes on the street - originally a store in the middle of a residential block. Built on the orchard lands of the old Gorevale estate, it is now situated right in the middle of the most popular and hip neighbourhoods of Toronto: West Queen Street West, Little Italy, Ossington, Kensington Market, Chinatown and Dundas to name a few.

The room is on the first floor where my son and I live. It is large, by Toronto standards, with a curved wall; a comfortable double bed; plush red chairs to sink into; and a desk. It is filled with artifacts from the changing neighbourhood and our lives. It is definitely not bland.

There is a guest spa washroom upstairs. There is also a guest living room, dining area, kitchen, and deck on the second floor. I also use those areas. The kitchen is fully equipped.

Public transit is only steps away, but you will be able to walk to most places. It would take you months to try all the restaurants which are a short walk away. There is internet access. Air conditioning when needed. We tend to be fairly quiet.

  • Great all around. Caroline is spectacular, and the apartment is within 20-30 minutes walking distance to almost anything you can think of, closer for most!

Caroline was a fantastic host, and everything in her room has a story. I can't recommend her enough, and I will certainly be back.

  • Caroline is a very nice and helpful host. The house is very funky and the location is great! You can walk everywhere, the district is fantastic.Great restaurants, great shops and a very nice family-own brazilian coffee on the corner! And the best thing is that the street is very quiet!!!

For some reason, I had not seen that there were many other rooms to rent in the house, so be ready to share the bathroom with the other guests. That means that you may have to wait for your turn and you will find the occasional forgotten underwear, hair, toothpaste remains.... It also means that the house itself is not super clean and quite dusty. If you can forgo that, it is heaven!!!!!!!
As for the room itself, you should know that there are no curtains (none in the shower either!) so there is light in the room at night. Please note that there is a gap (hole) in the wall of this bedroom so you can pretty much hear everything that is going on. There is little or no room to put your clothes and personal belongings, which is fine if you travel light.

  • I had a wonderful time in Caroline's beautiful home - what a welcoming, intelligent, thoughtful woman she is! I absolutely felt like a guest and the room was perfect. Her home is like a beautiful art collection, there's all these neat things everywhere, and everything has a story, I was enthralled. When I'm next in TO I am definitely staying with Caroline again. Could not rate my stay higher - superb!!

  • My time at Caroline's place was lovely. The room was very nice and very comfortable. The bed was great. The guest kitchen upstairs was also great and I was often the only one using it. It is fully stocked and made cooking away from home very easy. The bathroom is also very nice and is newly remodelled and feels like a spa. A great place to stay overall!

  • Stayed for almost a week. The front door belies what's behind it: a modern, well renovated set of rooms, kitchen, bathroom and sitting area, plus a balcony / terrace. Very conveniently located at 5 minutes walking from trams, 7-Eleven, a Brazilian coffee shop, and a Tim Horton's (if you prefer that). Friendly host and nice neighborhood. Good price, certainly when compared to overpriced nearby options. Very much recommended!

  • I enjoyed my stay at Carolines place very much. I didn't feel like a stranger at all. Caroline is a very friendly person, who gave me very helpful advise and directions. Her house is in a nice and relatively quiet area in Toronto. All major sights are in walking distance and there is a tram right around the corner. Her guest rooms, bathroom and the kitchen are all clean and tidy.
Caroline has two rooms. What you should know before booking is that one is an actual room and to the other below the rooftop there is no door - only a staircase, which I was surprised to realize but did not bother at all. Somehow it was still very quiet and I slept well.

  • Caroline was great! Flexible with my changing arrival time, attentive in every way a good host should be, and considerate. She pointed me in the right direction for restaurants and coffee shops numerous times. I had a thoroughly relaxing stay, loved the bedroom and the common areas, and would stay here again.

My teenage son and I live in downtown Toronto in a state of frugal luxury. I walk almost everywhere. He draws, works on the computer, wonders about ethics, and makes dry, wry comments when the mood hits him. He, and others, think that I am eccentric. To pin it down more distinctly, he describes it as me being very European. Luckily, he yearns to live in Europe. I am an autodidact, read a fair amount, and think copiously. My sense of humour seems to be in the ear of the beholder. Some people think that I am outrageously funny and start laughing before I even open my mouth. Others believe that I am the most serious person they meet. Frequently this split of opinion can happen within the same room. Of course, we are kind... and helpful... and sincere... and everything else a heart and someone looking for a place to stay could desire. We are not partiers. Nor do we smoke or drink excessively.
