Your very own spa

Relax with the rain shower and jacuzzi.
Doah House is a private retreat perched on a bluff atop the Blue Ridge, with wide views over the Shenandoah Valley. A calm container for rest and observation, the pace softens, shaped by small rituals: lighting the fire, soaking in the wood-fired tub, making coffee by hand. Weather moves through the trees, changing the light, the air, the sound. Each day feels different. The forest shifts, and you might, too.

The space
• Soak in your private wood fired hot tub amongst the trees
• Sleep overlooking the mountains
• Tuck away in the upstairs loft where a comfy queen bed and secret lookout window create the classic forest hideout experience
• The spa-like bathroom features a rain shower, heated moroccan tile floors, and a floor to ceiling window to soak in the morning light
• Stretch out by the fireplace as the sun sets, enjoying the surrounding mountain view from an expansive 16’ of sliding glass doors
• Prepare meals in the well-stocked kitchen with high end cookware, new appliances and heated kitchen floors (and perhaps a bottle of wine from a nearby vineyard)
• Practice yoga or enjoy a picnic on the expansive wrap-around outdoor deck
• Make s'mores around the fire pit
• Disconnect with curated board games and books in your own private library
• Enjoy the surrounding state parks, award-winning wineries, and top rated restaurants
• Hike the nearby Appalachian Trail
• Option to get groceries and take-out delivered on-demand
• Watch the wildlife: Foxes, woodpeckers, and hawks are common visitors
• Browse with blazing fast internet

Guest access
The only way to get mountain top views is to get to the top of the mountain.
• Expect at least 15 minutes on a long, unpaved, sometimes bumpy 2 mile gravel road
• A few steep sections require caution
• The road is routinely and professionally maintained by the county, especially during severe weather
• However, from November to April, we strongly advise that you use a four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle
• While there are plenty of dry weekends during those months where a regular vehicle would be fine, you cannot know that in advance. Please take the warning for these months seriously.
• The rest of the year, regular 2WD vehicles (front or rear) are fine. Even vehicles with below-average ground clearances like VW GTIs and Volvo C30s have had no problems. That said, AWD/4WD is recommended
• We provide a level parking spot for 2 vehicles

Other things to note
By completing this online reservation you are confirming that you read and agreed to the guide and rules.

Bugs
Being in the woods means there is a chance for bugs in and outside the property. However, an exterminator routinely treats the area around the house to reduce the chance of guests meeting unwelcome guests.

Children
The house is child friendly, but not child proofed. Please watch your kids!

Trash
Keep all trash inside the house to avoid unexpected encounters with wild animals, like bears, foxes, raccoons, etc.

Weather
Check the weather before you go so that if you do get snowed in, you are covered with the necessities.

Heating
The wood stove is the most effective way to heat when temps drop below freezing, but supplemental heating sources include a mini split heat pump, radiant floor heating and a plug-in electric heater.

Neighborhood highlights

Located in a residential neighborhood but because of the generous size of the lot and location of the cabin, you will feel private and secluded. Neighboring houses are not visible from the cabin, unless one tries hard to spot them in the winter months.
