The listing was accurate in describing the great views of skyline. It was also very spacious for a NY apartment. We were frustrated, however, because we specifically searched for an apartment that had three beds. When we arrived, we were told one of the sofa beds was broken. We expressed our disappointment, and the host indicated that someone could sleep on the couch. This was not a real solution, nor a comfortable one. The mattress on the double bed was also very uncomfortable. As others have noted, the cigarette odor from the bathroom also made the conditions unpleasant. Finally, the host was not great at communicating. There were long delays in getting back to us, and we were left until the last minute to find out where we would meet for key exchange. This was unsettling when traveling with two children. At the proposed meeting spot (Starbucks), the host was also about 20 minutes late to meet us and didn't respond to texts/messages. I would not recommend this particular Airbnb host/apartment.
We had a great stay in Lauras and Dexters apt. The location was perfect. I do recommend it.
Our group of four just had a fantastic stay in NYC! There was plenty of space at the apartment - my wife and I shared the bedroom and our mom's each had their own spot on the pull our couches (which had nice new mattresses). The apartment is orientated that there is some privacy for all. Fantastic views and perfect location, just a block from the empire state building. Kitchen and eating area is small but good enough for coffee in the morning - you are in Manhattan go out for dinner! Great value if your group needs 3 beds.
Laura was a great host - she even offered to let us keep our bags there for the day after checkout.
Bathroom was clean but could use a few updates such as a new towel bar and re-grouting on the tub.
The location of the apartment was perfect. Laura was easily accessible via text msg, and Dexter was great showing us the apartment.
We are a family of 5, with 3 small children. The sofa beds were perfect for our kids and they had no complaints. The master bed was very comfortable.
In addressing some concerns from previous guests, there is only one light working but I didn't even notice until I read the review. It's bright enough and really a non issue. The towel rail is fixed, and the bath/shower works perfectly with great water pressure. I think I would have like a couple of towel hooks on the back of the door, just for a bit more hanging space but we managed.
The coffee table is missing the glass, but we still used it. Sometimes one of the kids would eat at the coffee table, or they would do their homework. There wasn't seating for 5 of us to eat. It wasnt a deal breaker as I knew that when we booked. The kids sat at the small tall table to eat and the adults used the lounge. A fold up table with fold up chairs would be handy, perhaps stored in the master bedroom instead of the mattresses? We really only ate at the apartment 50% of the time so it didn't bother us not to be eating together.
The kitchen is well stocked for cooking. It does only have a crockery/dinner set for 4, but again it doesn't really matter. There were some paper plates, or we used a smaller plate. Lots of utensils and pots/pans to cook with.
The only downside is the smell of cigarette smoke that comes in from another apartment. We're non smokers and sensitive to it, so it was frustrating at times. We were often out for long periods of time and up late (1am) and they would still be smoking! It seems to come through the bathroom so we kept the door closed.
The heating is a tad too efficient, but we managed it by opening windows during the day, and keeping the main bedroom door open at night. You can use the air-conditioning to cool it down, but we preferred not to.
We used the laundry facilities while we were here. You need to purchase a card to fill with money/credit, which costs $3, but $3 isn't much in the grand New York scheme of things :).
Overall we loved our stay here. It's close to the subway and buses. In walking distance to Times Square without being in the thick of things. The views from the apartment are great. Checking out was easy. I would stay here again for sure.
