Situated in the historical centre of Fosses-La-Ville, the "gites" (cottages) of the "Apothecarius" (pharmacists) receive their name from their history. In fact, a number of generations of pharmacists resided in this historical art-deco house. Today it's two complete apartments, tastefully decorated by the owner Muriel, welcomes tourists as well as business travelers.
Inspired by the town's rich middle age history, Muriel has preserved the original style and character of this authentic town house. She has salvaged all that she was able including: doors, door handles, oak floors, stained glass, and mantelpieces. She even recovered the old flasks of the pharmacists, dusty and forgotten in the cellar.
This gite has two floors. On the second floor, there is a large space that would have been appreciated by the 'bourgeois' in the middle ages and under the beams, a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious living room decorated with beams and a wrought iron chandelier.
The bathroom, with very nice black and silver wallpaper is impressive and extremely refined. All rooms are decorated with original antiques found by the owner. Great!

Muriel made us very welcome at Hypocras and had organised lots of documentation for us to read and learn more about local touristic attractions. We loved the appartment. It has lots of charm and is very comfortable and well equiped. Our only criticism would be the doll size electric kettle. We would really recommend this place to any traveller who wishes to discover the beauty of the Belgian Ardennes. The access to the accommodation is via narrow steep steps, so would recommend caution to those with mobility and balance issues.
Muriel was a wonderful host, greeting us on arrival and saying farewell. She provides helpful information on places to visit and other local information. The apartment is comfortable, clean, charming and well equipped. There was a designated car space to the rear and we had no problem with parking security. Access is via some some steepish stairs but even our older guests had no problem. Murial booked dinner for us at Le Castel - which was a highlight!
Unfortunately when we arrived my wife's elderly mother had an accidental fall, tripping on the kerb outside (which could have happened anywhere!!!!) Muriel was immediately helpful with first aid, contacting the local doctor, arranging for a check-up at a local hospital, `and checking later that she was ok. In short Muriel was a STAR and LOVELY. Despite the accident we had a great stay and will return to other Hyocras or another of Muriel's gites.
Muriel was a fantastic host, very friendly, very helpful. The apartment was great, with a stunning bathroom, in a part of Belgium close to a lot of neat places. The neighborhood was not quite as charming as I was expecting, but there was a lovely bakery (Dardenne) just around the corner.
Hypocras is a beautiful apartment and we really enjoyed our stay there. The decor is tasteful, the bed was really comfortable and there is everything you need in the way of utensils should you wish to cook or have any meals indoors. We were in the area for a friend's wedding so we didn't have time to explore Fosse-la-ville, but that gave us an excuse to relax and spend more time in the apartment which was fine by us! Muriel was extremely welcoming and very helpful in advance of our arrival. We'd definitely stay again.
Muriel was an amazing host! She came to welcome us, and shared great information about sights and attractions in the nearby villages.

I travel a lot myself and that gives me some ideas to welcome my guests in good conditions. Friendliness, comfort, nice environment, and refined decoration are important for me. I'm married and have 2 children : a son, Brieuc (19 years old) and a daughter called Zoé (17 years old). I appreciate gastronomy, cinema, sport , culture and history. So, I'm learning restoration of paintings and I make oil paintings. Welcome guests is a great pleasure for me, because I like to share.
