This cozy cottage includes a well equipped kitchen with all new appliances. Spacious bedrooms, comfortable living room and an outdoor eating area with BBQ and plenty of seating. Swim, canoe or kayak off the dock. Enjoy a hike out your front door. End your day with a camp fire by the lake. Rest and recharge at Windermere, where new memories are made.

The space
Donna and I spent the winter of 2021 renovating Windermere - the cottage next door. You will be charmed with the original cedar interior that took us countless hours to sand and scrub. Don had a chance to practice his carpentry skills. Using the original blue cottage doors, he built the kitchen island. Both beautiful and functional, we loved how it turned out. Such a great place for food prep and entertaining, with plenty of drawers and cupboards where you will find what you need to whip up a delicious meal.
The living room has comfy couches and a coffee table the perfect size to work on a puzzle or play a board game. Apple TV, and high speed Internet are available.
You will notice several antique phones and a few old phone tables in the cottage. Another one of our passions is collecting and refurbishing vintage telephones and various antiques.
The bathroom was updated with a lovely walk in shower. Enjoy the powerful and soothing rain head. There will be plenty of towels, soaps and shampoo for you to use.

In addition to the charming interior spaces, you’ll have the use of an outdoor deck built under an old oak tree. A dining table and a new BBQ to use for your culinary creations. In front of the cabin you will find classic Adirondack chairs. Sit and relax, enjoy your morning coffee, read a book or take in the views of the lake. Speaking of coffee, we love our coffee so much that we roast our own next door. Just let us know how you like your roast and the first pound is on the house. Continuing down the new stair case you will come to the waterfront. For your enjoyment, we have additional Adirondack chairs where you can sit and soak up the sun and enjoy all that the lake has to offer. Watch for our resident Great Blue Herron, beaver, minks and family of geese. Of course no cottage experience is complete without hearing the call of the loon and you will hear plenty from these guys. The waterfront offers clean, fresh, deep water off the dock. It is great for swimming, canoeing and kayaking. We ask that you bring your own life jackets that fit you just right. Cast away a fishing line and you will be sure to catch a fish. Sit and enjoy an evening by the campfire, perfect your s’mores making skills and toast the spectacular sunsets. Windermere offers an authentic cottage experience for all ages.

Where you’ll be

Athens, Ontario, Canada

Windermere is located at the mouth of Sunset Bay on Charleston Lake. Our quiet bay is appropriately named for its gorgeous sunsets. The water opens up to what we refer to as Big Waters. Beautiful Charleston Lake offers 100 miles of rocky shoreline and over 100 Islands. There is so much to see and do at the lake, you probably don’t want to leave. But if you do, there is lots of exploring to be done in the area. We are one hour from Ottawa, the nations capital. Take a cruise through the world famous 1000 Islands, only 30 minutes away. Hike the many trails right out your door or a take a short drive to the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve. Enjoy the attractions and many restaurants and pubs in historic Brockville, located on the St. Lawrence River a 35 minutes drive. Be sure to walk through the Brockville Tunnel. With it’s light show and music it is a great activity to do on a scorching hot day. Then walk over to Blockhouse Island for a refreshing ice cream cone. A short 10 minute drive takes you to the rural town of Athens for freshly baked goods at Willard’s Bakery, a liquor store, coffee at Luke’s European Style Market, Main Street pizza and groceries at The Village Store. While in Athens be sure to take a stroll around town and enjoy the large outdoor murals depicting historical local life. A 20 minute drive takes you to Wendy’s Country Market for fresh local produce, cheese and other goodies. A great stop on the way to the cottage to stock up. Westport offers great shopping, restaurants and live entertainment at The Cove. On the way be sure to check out Kilborn’s on the Rideau in the town of Newboro. It’s a high end store, but worth a walk through. It has some pretty special items.
