We live 2 blocks from Golden Gate Park, with many good restaurants nearby. Buses are a 5 minute walk from here, taking you downtown and elsewhere. We offer breakfast, a private bathroom, and are happy to help you with your travel plans and questions.
Built in 1911, our large, comfortable and beautiful home and garden is located in a safe residential neighborhood. We are 2 blocks from Golden Gate Park (the home of the new De Young Art Museum and the new Academy of Sciences Museum, as well as containing tennis courts, miles of walking trails, and the Conservatory of Flowers), and are 8 minutes from the beach. Downtown, Fisherman's Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge are close by. In addition, there's a wonderful farmer's market that's held each Sunday, close to our home. We are also walking distance from many excellent restaurants, and are a short walk from several different bus lines, making it simple to get around without a car.
The room is newly re-decorated, and has a queen size bed, dresser and desk top, and looks out on flowers and trees. It is wired for Wi-Fi, and has a private bathroom. We have another bedroom available for overflow, if you need it for an extra guest.
Our daughter Sara began our Airbnb experience a few summers ago, wanting to earn money for her college expenses. We all enjoyed having Airbnb guests, so we decided to continue with this when she returned to college. We are very accustomed to hosting people, having many friends who over the years have visited and stayed with us. Given that we have lived in San Francisco for decades, we can advise you on things to do, great spots to see, and wonderful restaurants.
We offer a continental breakfast, which includes
seasonal organic fruits, as well as english muffins, cereal, bagels, or scones, and of course coffee or tea.
Aside from their bedroom and bath on the second floor, guests are welcome to spend time in our garden, and have access to the first floor of our home, which includes the living room and dining area. They may use the refrigerator to store small amounts of food, but our kitchen is not available for cooking (although you are always welcome to make yourself a cup of tea!).
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy meeting our guests, and are happy to converse with them. We make ourselves available to answer their questions, and provide suggestions to make their stay as enjoyable as possible.
We love our neighborhood, because so many resources are close to home. We can do just about everything on foot: food shopping, museums, restaurants, walks in the woods, the beach, etc.
We are within five minutes (walking) of three different bus lines, allowing our guests to go just about anywhere in San Francisco without having to get in a car.
Other Things to Note
Most people who have cars choose to leave them parked in our neighborhood. They prefer to use public transportation, given that buses are very close and easy to use, and there's a lot to do within walking distance.
In addition, you probably noticed a fluffy little white dog in one of the pictures. He is friendly, sweet, and doesn't cause problems for people with dog allergies. That said, he can do some barking in the mornings, particularly after we leave for work (usually around 9). Given this, if you tend to sleep late, ours might not be the place for you. No one has ever had a problem with this, but I do like to warn people.
I was hesitant to book an Airbnb when the host was present, but it was a wonderful experience. Toni and Phillip have created a real bed & breakfast with her home, which is close to Golden Gate Park and Haight/Ashbury. The private room was clean and comfortable and stocked with maps and San Francisco travel guides, and they included a binder with their personal restaurant and museum recommendations. We had our own clean, private bathroom. And best of all, each morning she set out fresh, organic breakfast food and coffee, something not typical (or expected) from Airbnb, but very much appreciated. It was so nice not to have to think about where to eat in the morning, and be able to start our day early. I haven't slept or ate that well in a long time. Toni and Phillip were also gracious with their time -- each day they asked how our trip was going and provided tips and suggestions. Their home is stunning and, as a bonus, they have an adorable small dog. You can tell they truly appreciate the city they live in, and love to explore San Francisco as much as a tourist would (how could you not?) This is getting long, but I have to add one more thing. I tend to over pack, and that includes toiletries, and I left one of my bathroom bags on the floor. Toni noticed this, and that day they went out and bought a shelf and apologized for not having more space. The bathroom is plenty big, but that is just an example of their thoughtfulness.
Ah what can I say? Such a gorgeous family, such lovely people, such a beautiful home. Toni is an awesome, caring, wonderful person and she made Mike and I felt so welcome.
It was so lovely getting to know the family and so sad when it was time to leave! We feel really lucky that we landed with Toni and Phillip in San Francisco; it was such a memorable part of our holiday. The breakfasts are delicious, too....they fully set you up for a day touring the town. There are also some great eateries near Toni's house for dinner or lunch, and they all great value. Try the Russian bakery for soups and pastries, Velo Rouge for amazing salads, sandwiches, smoothies and live music, and a fab (and award winning) sushi place too that I can't remember the name of.
The room is gorgeous, comfortable and light and overlooks their stunning garden. It is so peaceful, especially in the evening.
Thank you for having us guys. We really hope to see you in London soon! We miss you already. Lucy & Mike
Toni is a great host. It was my boyfriend's and my first airbnb experience and we were afraid it would be awkward staying in someone's home but Toni and her husband were both very welcoming that it wasn't at all. The house is great - large, clean, and full of character. The neighborhood gave me the authentic SF feeling experience in its appearance and was also conveniently located to get to all of the things we wanted to do. A nice and filling breakfast was provided each morning and never the same thing twice! It was definitely a good experience and I would stay with them again!
Toni and Philip's place completely exceeded our expectations. A beautiful home, full of light, warm and cozy - a total delight! It was in a lovely neighborhood convenient to everything we needed. Every morning we were greeted with a fulfilling and healthy breakfast. Most of all we were so pleased with our hosts, friendly, thoughtful and accommodating. I cannot recommend their place highly enough and wouldn't hesitate to re-book. Thank you again Toni and Philip!
Excellent host, very knowledgable about the area and restaurants. The room was very clean and the neighborhood is great to walk around (near park and public transportation). Extremely satisfied with the stay and hope to return.
Toni and Philip were wonderful hosts! I was in SF for an Airbnb Conference (I am a host as well) and this was my first experience as a guest. Toni and Philip were very welcoming and their home is in a lovely, quiet neighborhood and is truly beautiful. Warm, cozy and filled with many pictures and precious objects from their travels. My bedroom was cozy and the bed extremely comfortable with great pillows and comforter. Toni prepared a lovely breakfast each morning with the crowning glory being bagels and lox on Sunday morning! I especially enjoyed her coffee and persimmons fresh from the tree! They are both very personable and enjoyed our breakfast chats. As I was preparing to checkout, I asked Toni if there was a local bakery nearby where I could pick up a pastry to bring home to my husband. She decided that she would take her bicycle and pick up some things for me so I wouldn't have to worry about finding a parking spot!! That was over and above the "call of duty"!! I give Toni and Philip the highest possible recommendation!!
My husband Philip and I are long time San Franciscans. We have two children, who are 21 and 27 years old. We love the outdoors, enjoy travelling, and spend lots of time gardening. We also like to cook, and share meals with friends.
