Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
This room is used only as a single room. A large, private room on the 1st floor in a historic home near downtown, museums, beaches and most everything Sarasota has to offer. We live in a diverse neighborhood, both racially and economically. Check-in is 3:00-9:00. What time will you be arriving? Between 5-5:30, for example. No children. No pets. “Nicest house in the neighborhood,” more than one guest noted. We treat all guests with respect.

The space
My husband and I do not wear masks in our home. We do practice social distancing with guests whenever possible. The excellent air handler and high ceilings are quite beneficial. If you feel the need to wear a mask, please do.

Enjoy Sarasota in a large, comfortable home that is located near downtown, the beaches, museums and theaters. You can opt for privacy or interact with your hosts, Mark and Mark, who have called Sarasota home for 20+ years. Casual atmosphere.

A large, comfortable, quiet room on the ground floor. A large closet and a chest of drawers are yours to use.

The room has a ROKU television with a Netflix account as well as many other options. We do not have cable television.
The bed is a queen with a new (2021) mattress. Fresh linens, bath towels and beach towels are provided.

There is a mini-fridge in the room.

For extended stays of five days or more there is a private entrance directly into your room.

Please note: the bedroom doors are the original doors and do not have locks on them. We're not going to be going into your room except with your permission or in case of an emergency.

There is a half-bath down the hall from the room. The full shared bath (shower) is upstairs.

We are gay. We treat all guests with respect, and expect the same in return.

In addition to their private room, guests will have access to the living room, dining room, limited kitchen use. Full bath -shared- is on 2nd floor. The bathroom is cleaned daily. Limited kitchen use means making a light breakfast or sandwich.

The dining room table is available if guests choose to stay in and eat (take-out/delivery).

My husband and I can interact with guests as little as possible or as much as possible. Our interaction depends upon the guests and how much they want to interact with us. It is a large, quiet house.

There is a Publix grocery store a few blocks away, a 10 minute walk.

We are located a mile from the heart of downtown Sarasota where there are many very good restaurants, Selby Library, Florida Studio Theater Complex, Urbanite Theater, art galleries, specialty retail stores and the Sarasota Opera House (seasonal). The marina is located at the foot of downtown and is very popular.

Between us and downtown is the Van Wyzel Auditorium, Art Center Sarasota, The Ritz-Carlton and Hyatt Regency. The Rosemary District has several specialty retail stores, restaurants and drinking establishments.

A short distance beyond downtown is Marie Selby Botanical Center, Burns Court with it's cinema, specialty retailers, restaurants, cafes and art galleries.

Less than 2 miles to the north of us is the Ringling Museum complex, New College, Asolo Theatre and the Ringling School of Art.

We are a mile from the bridge which leads to Lido Key (St. Armand's Circle and beaches) and Longboat Key. The distance from our house to beautiful Lido Beach is less than 3.5 miles (about 10 minutes drive time).

We have off-street parking available for one vehicle. There are two bus stops (different routes) within one block from the house. Bicycles are a fun way to get around as long as side streets are used whenever possible. If you enjoy walking, downtown is less than a mile from the house. We do not recommend walking at night, other than well-lit and popular pedestrian destinations such as Main Street or St. Armand's Circle.

My husband and I are a same-sex married couple. We have no pets.

Location

Sarasota, Florida, United States

This is a diverse neighborhood. As one guest put it, ". . . the nicest house in the neighborhood." It is usually quiet. We love living so close to downtown and the many theaters, museums, galleries, parks and restaurants.

We do not recommend walking at night in the neighborhood. Uneven sidewalks and poor lighting make it difficult. Use Uber or Lyft if you do not drive.
We've lived here for twelve years and we've never had any problems. It is usually a quiet neighborhood.

My husband (whose name is also Mark) and I have been together for 20+ years. He is a self-employed professional and I work from home. We have lived in Sarasota for most of our time together. We live rather casually and we have no room for drama. We entertain rather frequently and I enjoy cooking. We also enjoy camping, canoeing and fishing. And we can frequently be found gardening. Mark is from New England and I grew up in Florida. Until we met, I had lived most of my adult life overseas. We enjoy theater. art. opera and most other fields of the arts, both visual and performance. We also enjoy reading and writing. We decided we wanted be involved with Airbnb in April 2015 because we thought it would be a great way to meet interesting people from around the world. And it has been a wonderful experience. We love it. We also use Airbnb when we travel.
