The Space

Your room is separate from the house and can be locked so you have total privacy and security. Super comfortable queen bed, plenty of extra storage room if you need it, bar fridge, fan and heater. Opens to the garden and your own little outdoor space with table and chairs etc.
laundry facilities, kitchen and bathroom are clean and modern and just inside. There is a back lane if you want a separate entrance or just come through the house. I'm friendly and easygoing!
The space suits one person as we share the bathroom in the house.

Guest Access

You have your own space in the separate granny flat for sleeping and study and storage. You have your own key and we won't hear each other at all. There is a little fridge inside and laundry with washing facilities next door.
The house is about five steps away with the bathroom and kitchen right there. You are welcome to cook and store things in the fridge. You can use all my pots and pans etc etc and the BBQ too. There is a dining room and also table outside for eating. The house is a shared space. There is a tv and DVD player in the lounge. My room is at the front of the house and yours is at the back so very unlikely we would hear each other. You can use either the front or rear doors so be as private as you like.

Interaction with Guests

That's up to you but I do work full time shift work and travel constantly. We will see each other of course but probably not too much.
I have two kids that I share with their dad. They are pretty cool and love having people stay. You will be part of the family but we will respect your space and privacy. We are all pretty busy and just get on with living. It's nice to come home to a welcoming house but also nice to shut the door and relax in peace.

The Neighborhood

I love this area. It has great little Asian restaurants that are super cheap with amazing food plus some fantastic places for coffee. It's so diverse and vibrant. Lovely parks to exercise in and it's super close to everything. Best of all it's affordable and unpretentious.
Transport is easy and cheap. Close to the city and other cool suburbs like Newtown Glebe and Leichardt but much cheaper. Two train stations and heaps of buses.

Getting around

Public transport is just a minutes walk. There are two bus lines into the city that will take thirty to forty minutes. Also two train stations are a short walk away and will take you to the city even faster. Taxi to the city would be twenty to thirty dollars. This is a very convenient area for access to the airport as well. It's really close.
Sydney is in the process of upgrading its ticketing. (website hidden) city rail for latest info.

Other Things to Note

I've got a gorgeous Burmese cat that is very sweet and friendly. Getting a bit slow these days she loves a pat and just spends her time sleeping in the sun.

  • Nice big room with a comfortable bed - what more do you need! The room is separate from the rest of the house so you can have privacy if you need - but Kerry is really friendly and does her own thing most of the time so its the perfect mix of socialising and serenity. The house is really close to the main restaurant area of Marrickville so you never need to cook, and its also where the public transport is (both buses and trains) which made getting around Sydney easy. Kerry is beautiful, her kids are beautiful, the cats are beautiful (well one of them at least hehe) and overall was a beautiful place to live - so much so I almost considered never leaving! Thank you for making my stay in Sydney wonderful - I always enjoyed coming home to your house.

  • Loved my stay in this very friendly home, I can't rate Kerry highly enough as a host. Very, friendly and welcoming..felt like l was staying at a friends home. Very clean and comfortable home with the added bonus of having your own space too.
Ideal location, close to buses and also walking distance to train station.
I would definately stay here again! :)

  • What an Awesome place to stay!!

Kerry is an absolutely lovely host and so very hospitable! Nothing was too much trouble and she was more than happy to have a chat and a cuppa and fill me in on the area. As I was in Sydney for a job interview I was quite nervous about where I was going and how I was going to get there etc but Kerry assured me it would all be OK and took the time to go through the address and how and where everything was! Something she most certainly did not have to do!
Marrickville itself is close enough to the city that it's only a short train or bus ride away, and the train station is literally down the street! Such a short walk and even shorter if you want to take the bus into Newtown for a coffee or a cheeky shop!
Marrickville is located in the flight path, but do not be concerned, there is a curfew from 11pm till 6am, if you are a very light sleeper bring some ear plugs, but being a light sleeper myself it didn't bother my morning sleep in!
The room itself was clean, neat and secure. Being a single young female traveling in Sydney I was a little apprehensive about safety, but was more than safe in Marrickville. The room is detached from the rest of the house and is totally secured by lock. Meaning a very peaceful nights rest for me. The bed was so comfy and sheets were clean and there was more than enough space to hang up a few clothes. The kitchen is 2 steps inside the house and the bathroom is even closer! Everything is neat and tidy and clean and there was no issue about using the either the bathroom or the kitchen.
Marrickville is bursting with lovely little cafes and restaurants and Newtown is only a short bus ride away. Taking the train back from the city lateish one night, I felt totally confident walking back to Kerrys place, the trains ran on time and the walk was quite short and there were still people around.
I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Sydney! Thank you Kerry for a wonderful stay!

I'm a typical flight attendant, I love to travel and meet people. Open and warm and very welcoming, I would genuinely love to have you in my home and help you get to know this fantastic city. My house is perfectly positioned for a great travel experience, but is unpretentious. The area is cool and cheap and has the best food going. I have a loving Burmese cat who will adopt you as her own, beware! I love to hang out in the local cafes or ride my bike along the close by river whenever I am not working. I am a real Sydney local and love it.
