This is a great apartment! My husband and I stayed here for a month when we first moved to San Francisco. Though it's a studio, the eat-in kitchen (fully stocked, with a gas stove!) and separate walk-in closet/bathroom made it feel spacious. The location is great, right next to Buena Vista park and accessible to all the shops and restaurants in the Haight and Cole Valley. The view of the park from the bay window in the front of the unit was just lovely :-) This is definitely more of an apartment rental than a hotel-type experience, but it met our needs just fine.
Overall, the booking and key pick-up process was easy. The rental office is on the same block as the apartment. Jesse was very courteous and professional when we picked up the keys. The only hiccup--why i'm deducting 1 star from an otherwise great experience--was a lack of communication just before our stay. Jesse had the wrong email address for me (a typo on his part) so we never received info on the check-in process. Several requests to get this info (by phone, text, and email--giving him the correct email address 2 times) went unanswered, so we didn't know how we were going to get into the apartment when we arrived in SF on the day of our reservation. That was a little stressful. But, I was able to reach Jesse on the phone that day and we worked it out without a problem.
I would stay here, or at another of Jesse's properties, again and would recommend it to anyone staying needing a long-term stay in the city!
"Central Victorian Studio" was a pretty disappointing AirBnB experience. It felt a lot more like an underwhelming extended stay hotel room than my previous AirBnB experiences. The apartment is owned by a very impersonal property management company, Casa Buena Vista Rentals. I didn't receive a response to my AirBnB message inquiring about check-in, nor did I receive the "Welcome" email Jesse said he sent. When I arrived, two overhead lights were burnt out, and despite notifying them, the lights were never changed.
The apartment itself looks different from the photos. The futon is now a small leatherette loveseat, and the bed has been turned. There's no privacy screen as pictured, and the only decor is a pair of rather cheesy posters with thumbprints of great works of art. The bed is just a(n incredibly stiff and uncomfortable) mattress with box spring and too-small white duvet. While the listing states the rental includes wireless internet, it's actually just sharing off the upstairs neighbor's network, which is finicky at best. I had to ask the rental company several times to ask the upstairs tenant to restart the modem.
The location of this place though? That is awesome. It's on a super-steep hill, sure, but it's right on the edge of Buena Vista park, on a short block bordering the Haight-Ashbury and Buena Vista neighborhoods. 10-minute walk to the N train, 2-minute walk to the 6 & 71 busses (and more lines, but those are the ones I use).
My stay at Central Victorian Studio was by no means miserable. It just was unpleasant on the scale of the otherwise wonderful AirBnB experiences I've had. I'd recommend this place only as a backup plan.
The place is adequate. Jesse was responsive and even let us check in a few hours early which was great.
This was, however, more of an apartment than a hotel-style experience. There were basic items, a few rolls of toilet paper, paper towels, etc - but we were responsible to refill them after they ran out during the first week.
It also wasn't the cleanest. We found garbage under various pieces of furniture and stains on the carpet and bed.
The marks on the carpet are understandable but bed sheets shouldn't ever be dirty.
And last, the listing mentions washer and dryer. This is assumed to be in unit and included in the cost but it is not - they are pay-per-use and located in the basement for communal use. I was unhappy to discover this because it seemed like the posting was misleading.
Either way, the stay worked for what we needed it to be and Jesse's personal response time is what salvaged this trip.
Apartment and neighborhood both very nice. Good hosts, very responsive. Stayed here all summer with no problems!
