Laugardalur (10 min walk) (Hot Spring Valley) is a major centre for sports and recreation in the capital. In Laugardalur you will find the largest outdoor thermal pool in Reykjavik, Laugardalslaug, in which you can swim all year round. It is very hard to describe the experience of tip-toeing over frozen ground in your swimsuit and immersing yourself in gorgeous water that nature (and some ingenious Icelandic geothermal engineering) has thoughtfully heated to just the right temperature, but the number of returning visitors definitely suggests it’s worth trying.
Laugardalur also has free entry to our beautiful Botanical Garden, with woods, ponds and birdlife. Beneath the branches the lovely Café Flora is a hidden gem.
The Family Park and Zoo in Laugardalur is open all year. The Zoo includes most Icelandic animals, both wild and domesticated, from foxes, reindeer and seals to cattle, horses and sheep. In summer the Family Park offers many rides and play equipment for children of all ages. Outside the summer season the Family Park remains open as a play area.
At the edge of the Laugardalur valley, not far from Laugardalur Arena, is a strangely shaped, domed white building. It is known as the Reykjavik Art Museum’s Ásmundarsafn sculpture collection. This used to be the studio of Asmundur Sveinsson (phone number hidden)), a pioneer of Icelandic sculpture. In addition to his works exhibited inside the museum, a sculpture garden outside contains many of his monumental works.
Reebok Fitness & Supermarket is 5 minute walk away from the apartment.
Cleaning service is included.
If any information needed you can always talk to the host, she will provide it to you with pleasure.
I have 2 small dogs who are not in the apartment but in the house and they use the garden with the apartment :)

This "cosy studio" was in fact only a garage with a double bed and a couch (who was really bad...) . And it's not suitable for 4 people! You can't stay at the apt, spend time in it, cooking, and eat together. And the location is not ideal, it's not in the center of Reykjavik, you have to take the car for enything. And what about the price!? It's very vey expensive! We stay another night in Reykjavik for only 75€ for a modern and big apt (90m2), in the main street of Reykjavik... So.... I'm disappointed.
Rosa appartment was ok but one of the beds were really bad i hope she gets à new one. À bit small for 4 persons.
This was a great little place. Conveniently located, close to everything, yet in a quiet safe area. We didn't get a chance to meet Rosa, but we were there for less than 24 hours. The place was very comfortable! It was a little smaller than I thought, but for such a short stay (and being in a city), I thought it was great! We really loved the towel warming rack next to the shower too! That was really neat! We didn't need to wash clothes or really do anything other than sleep, but there is a cool little washer there and it seemed like everything needed was provided!
My husband and I spent 5 nights in Rosa's studio apartment and had a comfortable stay. It was in a nice, quiet, safe neighbourhood and was a clean and modern room. Though I never met Rosa, she was quick to respond to our emails and was accommodating with our late arrival and late checkout. We met her husband briefly who was very nice and helped to fix the internet connection when it was down for a few days.
The location was a bit further from downtown then I would have liked for a first time visit to Reykjavik. It was about a 30minute walk to the main area, or a 15 minute bus ride (bus stop nearby, comes every 30 minutes). The pool and park close by were nice and close though. And many of the excursions you can book from downtown will pick you up at the nearby City Hostel instead of going downtown.
Since we stayed for 5 nights it would have been nice if there was a coffee maker, hairdryer, and perhaps some information left for us when we arrived outlining the area with some tips or useful details.
Other than that, we had a lovely stay.
Rosa was not at home when we arrived. We didn't find the key in the box she wrote will be. We were lucky her little daughter around 10 years o;d was to help us. We didn't have hot water in the bethroom and didn't receive the small breakfest that we read she is giving. The apartment is nice but smaller than we saw ay yhe pictures.
I stayed in Rosa's "Cozy Studio Apartment" for a full month from September to October of 2012; there is absolutely not a bad thing I could write down about the apartment or Rosa and her lovely family.
The apartment itself was incredibly clean, comfortable, and had all of the necessities. It was in a terrific, quiet neighborhood just steps away from bus stops to take you anywhere you needed to be - the buses run quite frequently and I never waited more than 15 minutes for the 12 to take me into the city. Rosa had even stocked the fridge with a few of the necessities and some fresh fruit which meant I could push off grocery shopping at least for the first day and had the time to focus on really taking in the country on the first day. The photos are extremely accurate of what to expect from the apartment: full of light, well heated, stylish and incredibly comfortable furniture, a comfortable size that is fit for about 1-3 people and is complete with everything needed for your stay.
Rosa and Peter were the perfect hosts and terrific examples of the people you will encounter in Iceland! They are friendly, helpful, and genuinely care about your experience while staying with them. I pretty frequently had trouble locking and unlocking the door for the first week and Peter was quick to come to the rescue and explain to me how exactly it worked (which is basically the opposite of in Canada, go figure). Rosa responds almost instantly to any messages which makes it incredibly helpful for any sudden changes in plan; my dad surprised me with a visit for my birthday and she was unbelievably quick to respond with where fresh linen and the best parking was to be found despite the fact that I messaged her at around 6am and didn't even expect a response for a few hours. I even grew to love their two dogs (who think they are a lot bigger than what they actually are) by the end of the trip.
If you are lucky enough to be approved to stay with Rosa and Peter in Reykjavik, you are bound to have a terrific experience in Iceland. I would absolutely stay with them again!
This is a great place to stay, in a good location right in the middle of town. Everything in the apartment is very new and in good condition.
We found Rosa and Peter to be very helpful and supportive.
Rosa est très efficace et cherche des solutions à tous vos problèmes. Son petit studio aménagé astucieusement dans un garage est très agréable et bien tenu. C'est un endroit très calme mais un peu loin de tout. Heureusement, il y a un bus pas loin..
I stayed with Rosa for a month in July and have nothing but nice things to report about my stay. Rosa is very personable and really went out of her way to make me feel comfortable. For example, shortly after my arrival, she spent 45 minutes finding me the best deal on a cell phone, and once, when I accidentally locked myself out of the house, she rushed home from work to let me in.
The studio is clean and cozy and the location is great. It's in a quiet neighbourhood but the city centre is close by. Several bus lines going nearly everywhere in Reykjavik are right around the corner, and the shopping centre down the street has a grocery and outdoor store which both have better prices than the one's in town. Very handy if you'd like to keep things cheap and take advantage of Iceland's great camping and backpacking.
