The Space

A private bathroom and being walking distance to St Paul's/The City/South Bank could be yours if you stay in our modern apartment in St John Street in the heart of Clerkenwell, Central London, EC1 (Zone 1).

The bedroom has a double bed and you will have your own bathroom. There is free wifi, a flat screen TV with DVD player on the wall opposite the bed, a floor to ceiling wardrobe and a place for storing suitcases/bags.

The private bathroom is just across the corridor from the bedroom and has a decent size shower. Towels, bed linen, hairdryer, shower gel and shampoo all provided.

Breakfast is included. There is a choice of bread, cereals plus teas and coffee. Please note you help yourself to breakfast; we think this gives you more freedom to cater as you wish.

There are some superb restaurants in Clerkenwell and Smithfield, just a few minutes walk way and two supermarkets within a 1 minute walk (Waitrose and Tesco) and many take-away/food delivery options. The area has a great sense of history and many hidden corners to explore. The flat is in a courtyard, so away from traffic noise.

Farringdon station (Metropolitan Line and National Rail) is within 5 mins walk, Old Street (Northern Line and National Rail) is 7 mins and the Angel, Islington with its many shops and antique market is a 10 minute walk away. There a buses nearby that will take you to Waterloo, the West End and Soho in 10-15 mins and the routes run 24 hours. You can walk to St Paul's Cathedral in 15 minutes with the South Bank a few minutes further on. The vibrant art/bar/restaurant/fashion/vintage shopping scene in Hoxton/Shoreditch is about 12 mins walk. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe.

Check-out and check-in times are normally flexible, but if there is another booking straight before or after we will have to go by the times quoted in the listing.

Some more details in response to questions-

Measurements - Please note that the bed (email hidden) Double which measures 135 x 190cm. If you are very tall this may be too small for you. I had one guest who was 195cm tall who said this was the case. In this case you may wish to stay somewhere with a Queen or King size bed which in the UK is 200cm long. The duvet measures 200 x 200 cm and again this is the standard UK double size.

The room measures 240 x 370 cm. Whilst not a big room we think its well planned, and the bed lifts up to store suitcases out of the way. The wardrobe contains 100cm of rail hanging space and some small shelves.

However, we have to say that if you like spreading out and having lots of space the room may not be right for you.

Sharing - You share the apartment with the owners who have their own room and there will not be anyone sleeping in the lounge area whilst you are staying with us. Your room and bathroom are private and only used by you.

Access notes - the apartment is on the 4th floor with a lift. The apartment is all on one level, with the narrowest point being the hall which is 78cm wide is places due to cupboards. The bathroom door opens externally and the opening is 68cm wide. The bathroom will contain a wheelchair but will not leave a lot of other room. Other internal door openings are 78cm wide. Access to the balconies are via raised door thresholds which are 23cm and 11cm high respectively.

Guest Access

Own bedroom with TV, DVD and wireless internet, own bathroom across the hall. Use of kitchen area for breakfast and light meal preparation at other times. Balcony.

The Neighborhood

Clerkenwell is very central but a hidden gem. Lots of cool and quirky places to see within a few minutes walk yet not overrun and crowded.

Easy access to the best of London either by walking, buses (two 24-hour routes close by), or Underground (two stations close by, Farringdon and Old Street).

  • I had a great stay with Michael and Ced -- the apartment is conveniently located within walking distance to a number restaurants, pubs, and the Farrington Underground Station. Clerkenwell makes access to North, Central, and East London very easy. If you're someone who is looking for a highly domestic experience and intends to cook in most days, I don't know that the apartment would be ideal. (Though I never used the kitchen, Michael and Ced welcomed me to do so). But for my purposes, the apartment served as a very clean and comfortable home base from which to explore the entire city. Michael and Ced are happy to share tips and recommendations, but are also respectful of one's privacy, never intrusive or overly solicitous. Recommended --

  • My Aunt had an amazing time Michael and Ced. She said the were very warm and friendly , helped her navigate the area without a problem even gave her an oyster to use!!!! Thank you!!!. My aunt says the room was comfortable, warm and clean and best of she had her own bathroom. She talked very fondly of the hosts and says she will not hesitate to recommend them to other guest.

  • Comfy room and bed, nice bathroom, beautiful flat and lovely hosts! What a great place to call "home" during my quick trip to London. Michael's prompt communication was great, especially with transportation help and local recommendations. Neighborhood was quiet on the weekend but easy to hop on a bus or tube. Great value overall and would love stay with them again.

  • We stayed for five days in Ced and Michael's apartment. They were kind and welcoming. They helped us with information and tips about London. The location is amazing, 2 supermarkets on their block, near a bus and tube stations, safe neighborhood. Their apartment was very nice, in a new building, and it was great having a private bathroom. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and had a "hotel feeling". However, the bedroom felt too small for two people, the bed and closet were smaller then what we expected. Everything looked larger in the pictures. We were promised to get a breakfast every morning, but there weren't too many options and we made it ourselves. In conclusion, we had a great experience, the defaults were minor and We really enjoyed our stay at their apartment. We would definitely consider returning to Ced and Michael's apartment on our next visit to London. Thank you, Shay and Or.
