I did not meet Barbara in person, but her responses to texts or emails were amazingly fast, complete, and informative.
The unit is just as described. I was surprised that the unit is actually below ground, so the windows are at ground level but are frosted appropriately so privacy is assured. This is a in-city location, so there is traffic noise, which drops significantly at night, but starts again about 6:30am. All in all, the unit is ideally located for travel to the financial district/World Trade Center part of Manhattan; a ten minute walk takes you to the PATH for a twenty-five minute ride to Manhattan or a twenty minute walk takes you to NY Waterways for a more scenic thirteen minute ferry ride, both (email hidden)e PATH will also take you near mid-town.
The unit is perfect for a single traveler, or a couple OK with sleeping on a double bed. The futon mattress is soft and has no frame so can only placed directly on the hardwood floor, so would maybe work well if you are a family with one or two small children. I would not suggest this unit for two couples traveling together!
For a single traveler to NYC wanting an inexpensive alternative to staying in Manhattan, this is a really good choice.
As we had an early flight to New York, arriving around midday, it was very easy to get to the apartment. Exactly as described and ideal for our needs. Barbara had sent us a welcome letter so we spent our first day getting to know the neighbourhood, sorting out the PATH and of course sampling the local eateries/supermarkets. Weather was lovely - a bonus and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. We will be returning to see all the places we missed.
It was a pleasure to meet Barbara who was very welcoming. On our very last morning we walked down to to the Hudson to see New York from 'the other side', of the famous skyline as recommended by our host. She also arranged for a taxi to take us to Newark Airport. Thank you
The apartment was great und we really liked being there after a long and tiring NY day.
We had everything we needed for our stay and we definitely recommend it.
We had no problem in the communication with Barbara and all our answers were quickly answered.
Nice Apartment, 10 minutes walk from the path which connects Jersey with NY. Direct connection to World trade center in 3 stops. During the night sometimes a bit noisy, due to passing cars, police and firefighters. We would chose the place definitely again for a stay.
Barbara gave a very warm welcome and gave fantastic info & tips as to what to see and do in Jersey and NYC. The apartment was very comfortable and everything worked great. The commute to NYC is a nice way to experience life between the two cities, something one misses out on when staying in Manhattan. All-in-all, my co-tourists and I were very happy to stay at Barbara's!
