About this listing
The Hibiscus Suite is private with a full kitchen and beautiful private bathroom. This is a great dry side location only about 15 min. to the BEST beaches on the Island. Free WIFI and tv. Beach equipment available. There is a 2 night minimum stay.
Private and beautifully appointed 1 bedroom apartment in a charming historic Hawaiian home with a kitchen, custom tiled private bathroom, garden lanai entry only 10 minutes from the best beaches on the Big Island of Hawaii. Waimea is a charming town with wonderful restaurants and centrally located. includes WIFI &TV. Waimea, aka Kamuela, is upcountry surrounded by beautiful green rolling hills, at a refreshing and cool elevation. This is a great central location mid-way between Hilo, Kona, & Hawi. Nights can be chilly so we advise bringing a light jacket for evenings.
We really enjoyed our time spent in the studio. It is well located, easy to find and quiet. We slept very well and enjoyed the beach gear that was delivered to our door as promised!
I found the 4 post bed very romantic however the bedroom windows could have better curtains to block sunlight in the morning.
We would definitely go back to the Hibiscus suite should we have the chance to return to Waimea one day.
Barrie is a good communicator and a good host. The cottage is just like in the photos. The bed is so comfortable, the sheets soft. We borrowed her beach gear, a nice amenity. It was fun to be in a residential neighborhood with locals. The only problem is that I have allergies and couldn't manage the musty smell in the suite. We kept the windows open 24/7 and it didn't help. So we booked another place to stay after three of our six night reservation.
We called Barrie to tell her of our change of plans and asked to keep the beach gear 'till the end of the rental, which Barrie said was fine. We read all her many wonderful reviews before we booked and there was only one mention about a musty smell, so if you're not sensitive to this, you should be okay.
Great location, less than 2 miles out of Waimea. The Hibiscus Suite was great and very close to some of the best food on the island. Comfortable, homey, and an awesome place to just relax at the end of the day. Johanna was laid back, unobtrusive, and available if you had any questions or needed anything.
I plan to come back, and when I do - I'll be sure to use Barrie's services again!
A lovely place in Waimea. Very clean,
Had mostly everything that was needed.
We enjoyed having personal contact with our hosts who were able to give us local knowledge on restaurants and which luau was best in the area. The neighbourhood is located on the outskirts of Waimea but is minutes to the centre of town. Our suite totally met our needs and would stay here again if we were to return to the island in the future
Very pleased with our stay, the suite is spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped and a great place to enjoy the morning sun, coffee and fruit. Host Barrie was very helpful with local tips (yummy cafés & shopping) and Johanna also available for questions and beach gear. The location close enough to beaches and whale spotting without resort isolation. It's a classic Kamuela home, thoughtfully remodeled into very quiet living quarters. We'll be back!
Barrie is a great host, there is a lovely garden off the Ohana, and I like Waimea aka Kamuela for its cooler temps and abundant landscaping. The Hibiscus suite is tastefully decorated, and the kitchen is functional. There are good restaurants and local farmers' markets to take advantage of. The distance to Hapuna and other South Kohala beaches is about 10 to 15 minutes. I would highly recommend this.

About the Host, Barrie
I have lived on the Big Island of Hawaii for 35 years and have chosen the best place on the island to live and offer accommodations to travelers. I can offer you insights on where to go and what is important to see while here on the island. An entrepreneur I have MANY interests from sustainability, to designing and decorating homes, gardening, and healthy living in general. My 2 daughters were born here on the Big Island where they love to return and bring all of their friends to share their most favorite beaches and adventures. As a realtor I know the different micro-climates & communities of the island extremely well and should you have an interest in re-locating to this island I would be happy to assist. I couldn't possibly live without clean air, pure water, sunshine and great community! When I go "holo holo" for a few days I choose either Volcano or Kapoho as my favorite little get-away places on the island.
