Set on a beautiful beach at the foot of the stunning Peloponnese mountains, Kalamata offers plenty to catch the eye. Although much of the tourist activity here revolves around the beach and the clear Mediterranean sea, there is more to Kalamata than that, and exploring the small town and its surroundings can throw up some stunning surprises. Although large sections of the town were destroyed by a major earthquake during the 1980s, there are still some attractive buildings and historically interesting sites to be visited in and around the town.
Kalamata also made a sport (paragliding), which has existed since the mid 80s.
located 20km from Kalamata. Takeoff is off a side of the mountain and the landing takes place on the beach in (email hidden)pecially in Greece and more specifically to Verga - Kalamata you can enjoy it because it is ideal for the sport, as the climatic and soil conditions are favorable.
Paragliding has developed rapidly all over the world because of the ease of learning, low cost, safety and satisfaction.
No trip to Kalamata is complete without plenty of trips to the beach, but don't be tempted just to stick to one favorite spot. Taking a walk up the shore will take you past fishing boats, small local restaurants and bars, clubs and past pretty little olive and fruit groves - bring along your camera as there will be some great photo opportunities! Another pleasant option is to head up to the Marina at the far end of the town. If you're staying by the beach or in Kalamata's center, it may be worth taking a taxi here, as the walk takes around 30 minutes - it can feel much longer in the heat of summer. Here is a modern little bay with impressive yachts and bobbing boats, along with some good waterside bars, cafes and restaurants.
Magic of the Mountains
The southern Peloponnese mountains form a stunning backdrop to Kalamata, and keen walkers and nature lovers will find the rugged mountain range throws up plenty of opportunity for challenging walks and rambles. The vast mountain that sits immediately behind the town has a trail running from its base right up to the top - set out early in the morning before the heat kicks in, and be prepared to spend around four or five hours getting to the top. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen, and don't forget your camera - the walk can be challenging but the views across the town and out to sea are outstanding.
Drag yourself off the beach lounger and into Kalamata town centre to see the remains of a 13th century church, as well as the impressive Ayii Apostili - a church that also dates back to the 13th century. The fruit and vegetable market held in the town center is a riot of color and exotic smells, and the produce on sale tastes every bit as good as it looks.
The Kalamata Beach covers a stretch of about four km and boasts of crystal blue waters. It has been awarded with the blue flags of Europe. The beach is famous for its scenic beauty and colourful shells found on its coast.
The famous Byzantine church of the Virgin Ypapanti is located in the town. It is famous for the Kalamata silk woven by the nuns here. There are several other churches located within the city which should be seen for their architectural beauty.
There are several museums in Kalamata which provide the visitors with interesting historical information. The Railway Museum is located to the south of the Municipal Park. The Benakeion Archaeological Museum located in the heart of the city, houses treasures ranging from the Bronze Age to the Roman period.
Kalamata hosts a number of cultural events and festivals. The Kalamata Dance Festival is held every year and focuses on the exchange of Greek and foreign dance troupes.
As your host i am here for all that you will need 24/7 to make your stay a wonderful experience . Price includes studio plus cleaning fees.
Kwstas was a great host. He made sure we had everything we needed and even went above and beyond to show us around. He made sure we knew where the good restaurants were at. When we got there, he gave us a welcome basket with fruit and other desserts. It was definitely a treat and a great show of hospitality.
Even before we got there, Kwstas made communicated with me and made sure that I knew what were the places to see and visit.
Kwstas even went above and beyond to take us around town and to his village. We got a chance to see the local olive oil factory. It was a neat experience. Make sure to ask him about that.
The apartment was clean and tidy. We could not ask for more. I would definitely stay at his place again when I visit Greece.
We went to Greece as a big family and rented several apartments from Kwstas. And we must say it was AMAZING!
Kwstas is very kind and caring person. He helped us with different things. He was always there to help you when you need it.
All the apartments were very clean and nicely furnished, there was all the necessary equipment one may need. In addition, Kwstas is not only a great host but a very kind person as well: during all our stay in his apartments Kwstas was always ready to drive us to any place we need and took us to different holidays, festivals and parties held in Kalamata. The apartments are right near the sea where there are a lot of cafes and beautiful beaches to choose from.
Every day, thanks to Kwstas we had wonderful fruits, fresh tasty meat, home eggs and all kinds of dairy products. On the very first day of our stay, Kwstas provided Internet connection, SIM cards and other technological devices we needed.
So I recommend Kwstas and his apartments for everyone who wants to visit Kalamata and have a good impression of it.
I would like to thank Kwstas for an amazing stay in his apartments. First of all, apartments are very neat, nicely furnished and clean. There is a beautiful garden near the house and the sea is very close to the house, so you can walk there. The point I would like to emphasize is that Kwstas is always there to help you with whatever you need. He was very friendly and helpful from the very beginning - he organised all our transfers to and from the Athens airport, helped us with the bags, arrival, departure and thousand other things. He treated us as his close friends and did really a lot for us. We enjoyed staying in his apartments 100% every day, and we are already going to come back and rent an apartment from him in a few months again - this time bringing all of our family. I highly recommend staying at the apartments Kwstas offers.
