I feel sorry Karynn that hardly had you arrived on the island you felt insecure and I have to say you got the wrong impression.
I respect your feeling but I must say the first impression is not aways right especially when you are not familiar at all with the environment.
You’ll probably be surprised to know than the type of gate on each terace (heavy steel pull down gate) has nothing to do with security. They are actually the best protection against a hurricane. The building which was wonderfully built resisted the worst hurricane we have had that is LUIS in 1995.
Titi telling you not to leave the door directly to the beach open all night does not mean it is a dangerous area. You have heard of no crime but found it very different from where you live in the mid West where, you told me, you can leave the door open any time. I have experienced no place like this before. Our guests don’t feel insecure though I honestly think that whole St Martin is like any other place I know of: you cannot leave doors open while sleeping or out. How nice indeed if we could do that…
When they don’t want the airco our visitors enjoy leaving the door open but close the gate so that they can listen to the waves. I wish you could have tried that. But here again your husband and I were willing to help you find another place where you would personnally feel secure.
However I can’t let you say that: the crime rate and security is not at all higher in our neighborhood. All the more so as we actually benefit from this security guard and dog and locked gate around the résidence.
Cocotier as you could see is non smoking. We of course cannot ensure you that people won't smoke outside on their terrasse or on the beach. Yet people are friendly and would be willing not to disturb you with their smoke or whatever. In our résidence people make friends easily if they want to.Thank you Karynn for your review. I am glad you eventually enjoyed our friendly island !
