Interaction with guests
Interaction with guests in general is minimal and easy. I live and work on the property and am available when the occasional concern that requires my input arises, which when possible, will be solved immediately. I will receive and orient guests and be happy to answer questions during the first days. If you are staying for more than just a few days, I expect that you enjoy discovering new places on your own and will make use of the many sources of information available to you both in the apartment and around town. And of course, I am always reachable in an emergency, since you will have my cell phone number.
The neighbourhood is mixed Mexican with both "snowbird", seasonal and permanent international residents. When the weather is right, the street is a riot of vivid flowering bougainvillea bushes, especially during the rainy season. There are dogs that bark - some more than others - and "environmental music" often spills over from neighbouring houses.. .you don't get to pick the play list or the volume.... the San Antonio district is no stranger to fireworks, cohetes at odd hours of the day and night, and many of the traditional fiestas originate in or pass through this part of San Miguel, albeit generally at a distance of a few blocks away. If you are adventurous, you can stand on the street corner and eat hot, charred elotes straight off the coals, sprinkled with lime, salt and red hot pepper. Or try your luck and your Spanish in the fruits and vegetables city market, a 5-minute walk from home, and also have fresh produce in your frig every day! A freshly-made quesadilla, taco or torta at the market is also a possibility. In other words, the neighbourhood will give you "the full Mexican experience" if you open your eyes and your senses, slow your steps, query differences instead of judging them, maybe try some on, smile a lot, buy hand-made tortillas around the corner on Canal St, and fill them with rajas y champiñones for breakfast, walk slowly, breathe deeply, listen for the church bells, and smile a lot.
There is public bus service around town, as well as inexpensive taxis, and also "cuatri-moto" rentals. There is a new car rental service. relatively expensive. Transportation to/from the airports is provided by BajioGo shuttle service, Viajes Vertiz, and others. There is street parking - sometimes you have to struggle for it! - and if you plan to walk most of the time, it is recommendable to place your vehicle in one of the parking lots around, for a moderate fee.
No smoking, please. No loud parties. We are energy savers, so have invested in LED bulbs, and we turn off lights that aren't being used, etc.
In order to respect others on the property, use of the clothes washer and dryer is restricted to the hours from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the day of the week pre-assigned to you.
Enjoy and care for this delightful home as if it were your own .... but also relax in it, and feel as free and comfortable in it as if it truly were your own. Most of all, it is a place of harmony and of mutual respect, where guests can leave to enjoy the wonderful attractions of San Miguel and engage in all its festivities, frenetic or otherwise - or a hard day of shopping - then come back home to relax and breathe in the feel of peace, beauty and one's own space.
