Interaction with Guests
Interaction with guests in general is minimal and easy. I live and work on the property and am available when the occasional concern that requires my input arises, which when possible, will be solved immediately. I will receive and orient guests and be happy to answer questions during the first days. If you are staying for more than just a few days, I expect that you enjoy discovering new places on your own and will make use of the many sources of information available to you both in the apartment and around town. And of course, I am always reachable in an emergency, since you will have my cell phone number.
The neighbourhood is mixed Mexican with both "snowbird", seasonal and permanent international residents. When the weather is right, the street is a riot of vivid flowering bougainvillea bushes, especially during the rainy season. There are dogs that bark - some more than others - and "environmental music" often spills over from neighbouring houses.. .you don't get to pick the play list or the volume.... the San Antonio district is no stranger to fireworks, cohetes at odd hours of the day and night, and many of the traditional fiestas originate in or pass through this part of San Miguel, albeit generally at a distance of a few blocks away. If you are adventurous, you can stand on the street corner and eat hot, charred elotes straight off the coals, sprinkled with lime, salt and red hot pepper. Or try your luck and your Spanish in the fruits and vegetables city market, a 5-minute walk from home, and also have fresh produce in your frig every day! A freshly-made quesadilla, taco or torta at the market is also a possibility. In other words, the neighbourhood will give you "the full Mexican experience" if you open your eyes and your senses, slow your steps, query differences instead of judging them, maybe try some on, smile a lot, buy hand-made tortillas around the corner on Canal St, and fill them with rajas y champiñones for breakfast, walk slowly, breathe deeply, listen for the church bells, and smile a lot.
There is public bus service around town, as well as inexpensive taxis, and also "cuatri-moto" rentals. There is a new car rental service. relatively expensive. Excellent transportation to/from the airports is provided by BajioGo shuttle service, among others. There is street parking - sometimes you have to struggle for it! - and if you plan to walk most of the time, it is recommendable to place your vehicle in one of the parking lots around, for a moderate fee.
No smoking, please. We are energy savers, so have invested in LED bulbs, and we turn off lights that aren't being used, etc.
In order to respect others on the property, use of the clothes washer and dryer is restricted to the hours from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the day of the week assigned to you.
Enjoy and care for this delightful home as if it were your own .... but also relax in it, and feel as free and comfortable in it as if it truly were your own. Most of all, it is a place of harmony and of mutual respect, where guests can leave to enjoy the wonderful attractions of San Miguel and engage in all its festivities, frenetic or otherwise - or a hard day of shopping - then come back home to relax and breathe in the feel of peace, beauty and one's own space.
Heather's casita was exactly as described in the heart of the oldest part of this remarkable UNESCO Heritage Site. The out door kitchen was magic. The home was comfortable, light lit, and warm throughout. The second floor bedroom, with its private vine-entwined courtyard, amazing views of the city and moonlit night nights was stunning. Heather was welcoming, warm, informative, always available, yet non obtrusive. Secure internet was perfect.
moonlight nights, chruches and historic builsings was awesome. The quyaint yet comfortable living room was perfedt - and that it lead onto the outdoor kitchen/dining was even better.
This is one of those places you want to tell people about and NOT tell them about! What a find. Great location, Heather is wonderful, the ambience is relaxing, I wanted to move in!
Our host was very gracious and welcoming. Heather took the time to provide us information on the local area and her property is gorgeous and in a quiet neighborhood. We would not hesitate to recommend a stay here in SMDA.
Heather and her sidekick Hero greeted me with a warm smile and a generous heart. As we made our way through the garden passing orange trees and stone sculptures, under arches of flowering vines and around a bubbling fountain I knew I was in for a treat.
At the top of the stairs, the guest house was awaiting me, sparkling clean, inviting and well appointed. My thoughtful host had gone marketing that day, leaving a big bowl of fresh fruit, coffee and the fixins' for an omelet my first morning in San Miguel. On the table I found a packet with a current local paper, a map and info, and detailed notes to help me get accustomed to the house and neighborhood.
The house was completely charming. I especially loved the tiled bathroom with cupola ceiling, and the open air kitchen where I sipped my morning coffee amongst flowering vines and hummingbirds. I enjoyed a marvelous view of the Parroquia and city beyond from the roof top bedroom. Each morning I opened my eyes to see the rising sun illuminate the pink stone church...an amazing way to wake up!
Exploring was easy from here, with the center of town a pleasant 15 min walk away, the lovely park Juarez and the Instituto de Allende only 10 min walk down cobbled streets.
My sincerest thanks to you Heather, for your generosity, your many extra kindnesses, and sharing your very special home.
Heather met us at the door and welcomed us like we were family. The place was exactly as advertised and tastefully decorated creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The neighbors are friendly and always smiling. The next time we visit San Miguel the only place for us is Heathers !!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 month stay at Heather’s beautiful garden home.
The house is set back several hundred feet from the road and secured behind a privacy wall, so there is a definite sense of safety. It was also nice being a bit away from the loud noises of centro but only 10-12 minute walk into town via Pila Seca, 8 minute walk to Zacateros/Ancha San Antonio, and less than a 5 minute walk to Mercado San Juan Dios. There’s also an awesome fish restaurant (Mariscolandia) and a bakery just a block away, and a handful of other convenience stores in the immediate neighborhood.
The street, Del Vergel, is definitely the nicest street in Colonia San Antonio, lined with trees making it very tranquil and quiet. Her house and garden are immaculate due to her amazing gardener and housekeeper. The outside kitchen made for beautiful breakfasts, lunches, and dinners! We called it our “tree house” since the open 2nd floor kitchen feels like you are living among the trees and birds.
Some of the highlights of the apartment are the plethora of nice towels and sheets, purified water thorough out the house, a washer AND DRYER (!!), private internet modem just for the apartment, fully stocked kitchen, full sized refrigerator, lots of great light in every room, and ceiling fans in all the rooms.
Heather takes pride in her house and makes sure that everything is in working order, if anything needs attention someone is there to attend to the issue immediately. In addition to having the wonderful opportunity to stay in such a lovely house, we also enjoyed getting to know Heather and her pets and are sure you’ll love her place too!
We LOVED staying at Heather's place; it was just as beautiful as the images show (and more so). Heather was a wonderful host—helpful and welcoming, but allowing for plenty of privacy and independence too. I felt that I could turn to her with questions any time, and when I did, she was a wealth of knowledge!
The space is truly fantastic; the rooftop bedroom was so unique! Sun-drenched and up in the treetops, it had a treehouse feel (except with all the amenities). I relaxed (and exercised and did yoga) in the rooftop patio with the birds most mornings, with lovely views of Central SMA—and I could see the lights of town twinkling at me from bed at night. I also really enjoyed the outdoor kitchen, which even during a downpour, was quite protected, the best of inside-outside living. Internet was great (important as I was doing work while in SMA), and the location was ideal; in a real neighborhood set just a bit away from the center of town, it was safe, comfortable and convenient. This is my fave AirBnB experience to date. Thank you Heather!
