Interaction with Guests
Interaction with guests in general is minimal and easy. I live and work on the property and am available when the occasional concern that requires my input arises, which when possible, will be solved immediately. I will receive and orient guests and be happy to answer questions during the first days. If you are staying for more than just a few days, I expect that you enjoy discovering new places on your own and will make use of the many sources of information available to you both in the apartment and around town. And of course, I am always reachable in an emergency, since you will have my cell phone number.
The neighbourhood is mixed Mexican with both "snowbird", seasonal and permanent international residents. When the weather is right, the street is a riot of vivid flowering bougainvillea bushes, especially during the rainy season. There are dogs that bark - some more than others - and "environmental music" often spills over from neighbouring houses.. .you don't get to pick the play list or the volume.... the San Antonio district is no stranger to fireworks, cohetes at odd hours of the day and night, and many of the traditional fiestas originate in or pass through this part of San Miguel, albeit generally at a distance of a few blocks away. If you are adventurous, you can stand on the street corner and eat hot, charred elotes straight off the coals, sprinkled with lime, salt and red hot pepper. Or try your luck and your Spanish in the fruits and vegetables city market, a 5-minute walk from home, and also have fresh produce in your frig every day! A freshly-made quesadilla, taco or torta at the market is also a possibility. In other words, the neighbourhood will give you "the full Mexican experience" if you open your eyes and your senses, slow your steps, query differences instead of judging them, maybe try some on, smile a lot, buy hand-made tortillas around the corner on Canal St, and fill them with rajas y champiñones for breakfast, walk slowly, breathe deeply, listen for the church bells, and smile a lot.
There is public bus service around town, as well as inexpensive taxis, and also "cuatri-moto" rentals. There is a new car rental service. relatively expensive. Excellent transportation to/from the airports is provided by BajioGo shuttle service, among others. There is street parking - sometimes you have to struggle for it! - and if you plan to walk most of the time, it is recommendable to place your vehicle in one of the parking lots around, for a moderate fee.
No smoking, please. No loud parties. We are energy savers, so have invested in LED bulbs, and we turn off lights that aren't being used, etc.
In order to respect others on the property, use of the clothes washer and dryer is restricted to the hours from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the day of the week pre-assigned to you.
Enjoy and care for this delightful home as if it were your own .... but also relax in it, and feel as free and comfortable in it as if it truly were your own. Most of all, it is a place of harmony and of mutual respect, where guests can leave to enjoy the wonderful attractions of San Miguel and engage in all its festivities, frenetic or otherwise - or a hard day of shopping - then come back home to relax and breathe in the feel of peace, beauty and one's own space.
I had a wonderful 4 day visit in San Miguel staying wit Heather. Her place is a nice walk to the Jardin and lots of restaurants. I always felt safe coming and going from her home.
I enjoyed the upper patio, drinking coffee, watching the humming birds, and checking my email.
I would definitely stay again on my next trip to San Miguel.
We have just ended a nearly two-week delightful stay at Heather’s Hacienda.
The property’s small frontage opens up onto immense outdoor and indoor spaces. The outdoor area has a lovely courtyard with fruiting lime and orange trees, foliage galore, a fountain and all sorts of Mexican brick-a-bric.
The rentable apartment has two bedrooms. All decorated with Mexican art and brick floors, which feels so cool under your feet after a day of walking. The bathroom is done out in Mexican details with an enormous bath tab. The upper bedroom has a view of SMA including all the churches and the center. Absolutely lovely!
The apartment presented an abundance of space for the two of us
There is also cleaning service included---Cara who takes care of the property. And we’ll tell you this, she is a dream lady whom you love to take care of your house.
We enjoyed every moment at Heather’s home and her forthcoming advise. We had privacy and at the same time we knew that if we needed any assistance, we could count on her.
This is a magic space in many ways. The kitchen/dining room (the dining table was my desk) are open-air. It was so lovely sitting out there working on my computer and cooking dinner for my husband. There is a lot to say for open-air kitchens in a warm climate. I'm not sure how wonderful it would be in cold weather, though. But in warmer weather, it is just a delight. We also loved the master BR. It's upstairs in the trees, which are ancient and huge (like, 5-stories high). It was like living in a bird's nest. The bedroom has glass on three sides, and we just loved waking up in the morning listening to all the birds singing. We saw numerous varieties, big, little, teeny and huge, hopping, or flopping, from tree to tree. The neighborhood is lovely, too. It's in north San Antonio, which is one of the hottest colonias in SMA. Heather's house is off the beaten path but close to everything. Very safe. Heather is a wonderful lady. You will love her. The maid, Cira, too. One thing to be aware of is that the price is for 1 person; it's $10 more for each extra person. Also, the property is shared; but it does feel private. This is a much nicer colonia to sta in than in Centro Historico, which is noisy and (website hidden) is fine for a night or two, but wears on your for a longer stay. This neighborhood was perfect.
Heather was lovely and did what she could to make me feel welcome. What I had come for was unobstructed work time, and that was available in a very beautiful outdoorsy bright surroundings.
What a wonderful experience! My daughter and I stayed for 7 nights in Heather's 2-bedroom apartment. It's a wonderful space - we especially enjoyed the garden setting and the open-air kitchen. Heather welcomed us with some eggs and other ingredients so that we could make a snack after our late night arrival. She is friendly and willing to offer suggestions for enjoying San Miguel de Allende. The neighborhood is about a 10-15 minute walk, much of it uphill, to the Jardin, and is also walking distance to other popular spots. We highly recommend Heather's place for your stay in San Miguel de Allende.
We loved our 2nd floor apartment, especially our "open air" kitchen. Heather was so kind as we were greeted with fresh fruit, artisan bread and all the fixings for breakfast our first morning. The grounds of this beautiful Hacienda were just spectacular and we enjoyed our stay and appreciate all that Heather did to truly make this "our home" for a week.
Thank you Heather!
