It's all about location! Williamsburg boasts the best restaurants, cocktail bars, music venues, coffee shops and boutique stores in all of NYC! Our apartment is in the heart of original Williamsburg's Bedford Avenue.
Williamsburg foodbridge access is right on our corner. Transportation is reasonable: a 10-15 minute walk from the JMZ and the L trains (the trains take 10 minutes to Union Sq and the Lower East Side), and one block from the wonderful East River Ferry, which goes to DUMBO, wall street and midtown.
The only rules are to keep the place as tidy as you found it; please water the plants (not the cacti of course!) and feed the cat twice a day. There is no smoking or pets allowed, and obviously, guests will be held accountable for any damages incurred during their stay.
Best location especially if you want to fully experience what Williamsburg is all about. It's located very close to subway stations that will take you to Manhattan in no time and is minutes walk away from the coolest hot spots. I love Julia's space, it's spacious and exactly what one would expect from artists. Julia was also very helpful during my stay, from pointing out places to check out and responding to my 101 questions. Zuzu is relatively easy to care for except that you need to feed her on time.
Julia's loft looks exactly like how it appears on photos, except that it is actually a lot bigger! Located in Williamsburg, the loft is just 3 minutes from the legendary Peter Luger Steakhouse. Other good restaurants - Diner, Marlow & Sons, Pies 'N' Thighs - are just a few steps away.
We love the living room and how it is lined up with so many pots of plants. Another reason why we love the place is because it is on the ground floor - we don't have to carry our heavy luggages up the stairs.
Zuzu the cat is very obedient and we have no problem taking care of it. The only thing is Zuzu will wake you up very early to feed it.
While we did not get to meet Julia in person, she was responsive and it was a pleasure communicating with her before and during our trip.
The apartment is beautiful and just as the pictures indicate. The location is great, close to the train and good food (the diner, marlow & sons, peter lugers) and very walk-able to the center of williamsburg. The big issue here was with Zuzu the cat and noise in general. Reviews had indicated that Zuzu the cat was no trouble, but in this case that was NOT the case. She woke us at between 2-3am and again between 5-6am each night meowing constantly until we gave her food. I spoke to Julia about that and while apologetic, did not do anything to fix the situation or compensate us for the issues. The bedroom also has very thin windows and there are bars just outside so the noise is pretty continuous through the night.
The topper was when the maids showed up to clean the apparently while we were still inside. Instead of requesting the maids to come back later, Julia requested that we let them "work around us". Again she was sorry, but left us holding the bag to deal with things.
All in all this apartment has a lot of potential, but I would not choose to stay here again.
We really felt bad that Dan didn't have a great experience. But Dan rented an apartment with a cat in it and then got really upset when the cat acted like a cat. We really did feel bad that he was so put out by Zuzu and offered to 1. find someone to take her the last night (which didn't work out) or 2. offer to refund him the last night if he decided to go somewhere more comfortable for him. So, I'm not sure why he said we didn't do anything to "fix" the situation. In the private feedback, he told us he wanted the last night refunded while also staying there. I wish he would have just told us that- we certainly would have done it.
A quick note about Zuzu, I encourage you to read the 40 reviews on our apartment, many of which mention what a great cat she is.
Dan gave us an 11-12 departure time and housekeeping came at 11:15. He initially refused them access until I called him after receiving notice from the agency. I definitely asked the agency if they could come back later, but that was impossible. All he had to do was let them in. He wasn't being rushed and didn't have to give them any instruction, etc.
We take a lot of pride in our apartment and the experience renters have while here and when something is not going well, we everything we can to make it better. But Dan knew there was a cat here. And refusing housekeeping access would have really been a problem for us and the next set of renters coming in later if we hadn't been contact by the agency. AirBnb is a community of likeminded people opening their homes and providing a more layered experience than one would get at a hotel. I am not sure Dan really understands that but I do hope he has better experiences in the future.
Despite frigid temperatures, we had a great stay at Julia's! A short walk from the bustle of Wlliamsburg and lots of options for getting into Manhattan quickly. If it were a little warmer, we would've walked the Williamsburg footbridge, which is very close, but the views of the bridge are awesome.
We really loved the Rabbithole for brunch and drinks and had fun shopping at Whisk and Bedford Cheese Shop, among many other cute shops we found.
Julia was easy to communicate with and very friendly, gave us lots of information and made it easy to get in and out.
Julia's place is absolutely amazing. I loved being among so many plants. The space has a really warm energy and you will feel comfortable there in an instant. Honesty, we didn't want to leave.
The location is perfect near to great coffee shops (Blue Bicycle) restaurants (brunch at Rabbithole was just perfect) and my favourite yoga studio in New York (Kula Williamsburg)
I fell in love with Julia's cat Zuzu. I honestly considered taking her home with me! She's really independent if you're not a cat person, but her her and I were fast friends and I was always so happy to come home and hang out with her.
Basically, I don't want to stay anywhere else in New York and you shouldn't either.
This was the first time we booked through Airb'n'b and Julia's place was perfect for our 5 days stay in NYC. The appartment itself is really cosy, with lots of space and great decoration. Zuzu, the cat, is nice, friendly and easy to take care of. Also, the surrounding area is full of great bars, restaurants and shops and - offers easy access to Manhattan through the J/M/Z trains. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a genuine and hip experience in New York.
Had the time of our lives at Julia's loft! It was beyond prefect and one we couldn't recommend more.
It's huge, gorgeous and kitted out with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Only Minutes from 2 subway stations you can have the best of both worlds: Brooklyn/Manhattan.
Julia unfortunately wasn't available to greet us in person, however she made access a breeze and allowed us early check in. She was responsive in texts and made sure we were happy and enjoying our stay.
Thanks so much Julia, hope to stay with you again done day!
