About this listing
Entire 5-room apartment on a quiet street in a fun neighborhood, top floor, set up as 1 br w/ 2 offices, plus a large living room and eat-in kitchen. Hardwood floors, wi-fi, ceiling fans, A/C, close to 2/3/N/R/Q/B/D/G and LIRR trains at Barclays.
Large five-room apartment with one large bedroom, two offices, a living room, bathroom, and eat-in kitchen. We will be out of town while you're here -- you'll have the entire place to yourself and won't see us at all. (We'll make arrangements ahead of time to give you the keys.)
The apartment is on the 4th (and top) floor of a walk-up. It's set up like a railroad, meaning all the rooms connect in a row.
The bedroom is 13' x 13' with three windows, a high ceiling (10'), and full-sized bed with a medium-firm mattress and a super soft topper. It's the most comfortable bed ever. This room is also furnished with bookshelves, houseplants, and an air conditioner. Clean sheets, blankets, and towels will be provided.
The next two rooms are offices, one with a standing desk (with stool), one with a regular desk. We'll clear out our stuff so you can use either one.
The living room has a nice couch and high-speed internet, and the kitchen has a table and two chairs and lots of space to cook.
We have 5 ceiling fans! They're amazing on a hot day :)
The bedroom itself is pretty quiet. We're on the top floor, which means no noisy neighbors above, and the neighbors to the sides and below aren't bad. It faces one of Park Slope's quieter east-west streets, and street traffic is generally pretty quiet.
(I chain my bike to a street sign outside and haven't had any problems with theft. The neighborhood is quite safe overall, and even late at night the streets never seem desolate -- we're around the corner from a 24-hour deli, which makes the neighborhood seem lively, even at 3 a.m.)
Everything in the apartment, minus our two closets and our personal items (our clothes, shoes, cosmetics, notebooks, file cabinets, etc.).
Interaction with Guests
We will not be present. But we're really good at sharing tips about the neighborhood, and are happy to provide super-detailed instructions about getting here via public transit from the airport -- just ask!
Tons of great restaurants within walking distance
We're between 5th and 6th Aves but closer to 5th Ave, which is the younger, hipper main stretch of Park Slope. There is a 24-hour deli/organic grocery on the corner, and there are tons of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques in the immediate vicinity as well, mostly along 5th Ave. There's a big grocery store nearby, too, and a pharmacy, a hardware store, several nice boutiques, and a couple of good thrift shops.
Also: we are within walking distance to Prospect Park, which is a super beautiful park, and is ideal for bike rides, jogging, picnics, and occasional live entertainment. There are two farmers' markets nearby on the weekends, too.
The nearest drugstore is the Duane Reade on the corner of Flatbush and 7th Ave. If you need to see a doctor, there is a walk-in clinic at 420 5th Ave., between 7th and 8th Sts. They can do basic things like stitches and prescriptions, and will charge much less than a hospital. The nearest hospital is NY Methodist, on 7th (email hidden). in Park Slope.
There are too many! For authentic NYC bagels, try the Bagel Market on 7th Ave. between Union and Carrol Sts. For good, cheap NYC pizza, try Roma on 7th Ave. between Union St. and Berkeley Pl. (A new place just opened up on 5th between St. Marks and Bergen, Artichoke Pizza, which is very good, too, but maybe not as classic.) Our favorite places to go out to eat are Taro Sushi (on Flatbush and St. Marks), Hunan Delight (Chinese, on 6th and Union), Al Di La (fancy Italian), and Flatbush Farm (fancy American farm-to-table, next to Taro Sushi). The best healthy place to eat lunch is Sun in Bloom (vegan/macrobiotic, on Bergen, slow service though). Taro and Hunan have good weekday lunch specials. Sky Ice (on the corner of St. Marks and 5th) has an amazing northern Thai curry stew, and they make all their own sorbet and ice cream in-house.
2/3 to Bergen St. (4 min walk)
B/D/N/R/Q/4/5 and LIRR to Atlantic Ave. (5 min walk)
G to Fulton (10 min walk)
F to Bergen (10+ min walk)
