Our stay at Desiree's place was wonderful! The apartment was super nice and clean and has everything we needed. Our family really felt like home during the whole time. A++
Beautiful apartment in wonderful area! Location can't be beat. Just a couple of minutes walk to subway (about a block). And within 10 minutes walk (5 blocks) is the barracks row area, which has LOTs of restaurants. Maybe not the best neighborhood but we definitely felt safe. The neighbors were actually very friendly. Many would greet as whenever we walked by.
The tastefully decorated apartment is exactly as advertised: very clean with modern décor. The apartment was spacious for us (2 adults and 1 toddler). Having washer and dryer on site was also a great plus. The kitchen is well stocked with supplies.
Desiree is a lovely host and very accommodating. She provided us with an aero bed for our toddler (though he didn't end up using it). She offered us a pack n play as well. The Smartrip cards provided was a convenient touch. We used those every day.
We would definitely recommend this place and would definitely stay here again if we're in DC.
We most enjoyed our first Airbnb experience at Desiree’s lovely basement suite. She has outfitted it as a comfortable abode with stylish accessories and fully functional stainless appliances in the kitchen, laundry facilities solely for use of the lodger, as well as Direct TV and a DVD player. We wanted for nothing!
We were longer visitors than usual with our stay of 3 weeks and it became our home away from home. Even more so because of being trapped by the winter weather! She was most helpful and at our beck and call with helpful tourist information, Metro Subway Cards, restaurant recommendations, etc. In short, she looked out for our every comfort. With our trip to Spain coming up in the next month, Desiree gladly gave us a virtual tour of the country with her many experiences there which was much appreciated.
We would certainly repeat our experience at Desiree’s if we have another opportunity to visit DC. Only thing to keep in mind is that it is a basement suite and if you are not steady on your feet the spiral stairs down to the front door may require some tricky footwork. But even with the abundant snow and ice that we experienced those weeks, Desiree was the first on the block out with snow-shovel and de-icer in hand. A wonderful hostess, a wonderful place to stay.
This apartment was exactly as advertised. It was warm attractive comfortable and served our purpose well. Desiree was so very helpful to us and assisted us when evolved we required it. A great place to stay and close to the subway.
The apartment is very pleasant, clean, comfortable and wonderfully convenient to the Metro. The host was very responsive to our needs, even acquiring a DVD player at our request.
We absolutely loved our stay at Apt on the Hill. We stayed in early Jan 14, and were so close to the metro for all the museums, memorials, galleries and great places to eat and drink. The apt was exactly like the photo, very quiet and warm, and Desiree was prompt to reply to all our questions and very friendly and welcoming overall. We would happily stay here again!!!
Desiree has a lovely basement apt. that is perfectly located to enjoy most of the typical tourist attractions.
- Great Location
- Beautiful apt.
- Desiree is a lovely host.
- She has construction going on in the apt above that can be very loud and even was going on at 9pm on a Sunday evening.
The apartment was lovely. Clean, modern and stylish. Kitchen fully equipped, heating excellent. Good supermarket just around the corner and close to restaurants.
Despite a couple of hiccups beyond her control, Desiree took great pains to ensure my stay was comfortable. I would recommend this place to any single or couple for a stay in DC close to the action.
Nice apartment that is fairly close to the Capitol. The place is clean and very updated. It's easy to walk to the metro and to a local natural food store and drug store to grab breakfast items so you don't have to rush out in the morning to grab breakfast. Also some good restaurants nearby. It's quiet at night which is nice for sleeping at night.
*10 minute UberX ride ($18) away from DCA
*1.5 blocks to the nearest metro
*1 block to Harris Teeter market
*1 block from Capital Bikeshare
*2 metro stations from Library of Congress
-far from NW region where all the good restaurants and bars are ($16 UberX ride away)
-although nothing bad happened, the neighborhood just doesn't feel safe (a few drivers told us the neighborhood is "a lot better now" and that it used to be very bad
-walls are so thin we could hear every conversation and footstep happening above us during construction/painting (apartment is a remodeled basement of the building)
Let me preface by saying that Desiree is a nice person and that her apartment is clean and cosy. She came by when we arrived in the evening to introduce herself and before she left she asked us when we were getting started with our day so she can tell the construction workers. We told her we are getting an early start and it didn't exactly set in that there would be construction going on in same building above us since that is something that is normally disclosed to a tenant beforehand...The next day we got an early start and went on our congressional tour and saw a few sites. We returned to the apartment around 3pm to full-blown construction happening on the building. One person was priming the side of the building causing dust and soot to fall all over the place with a ladder that was in the way of the entrance. We had to yell to the guy to stop for a moment so we can get in the apartment. When we finally got in the apartment all we wanted to do was rest, but that definitely wasn't going to happen with all the noise happening inside and outside of the building. We let it pass as we didn't want it to ruin our trip so early on. When we left that same evening around 8pm I almost hit my head on the now erected scaffolding covering the entire front side of the (website hidden)?! We let it pass. The next morning around 8am we woke up to the construction workers arriving. I couldn't let this pass. I sent Desiree an email. She responded with a BS response saying "they were supposed to be done 2 weeks ago and they were only painting." Not exactly a solution to the problem.. in the end, she finally offered to refund us for 1 day on our last day and somewhat owned up to her failure to tell us that there would be construction during our stay. Being the patient people we are, we happily accepted and tried to enjoy the rest of our trip, outside of the apartment. She shorted us $5 on the refund since we paid $120/ni. LOL! Our advice: ask her if she will be moving in or will be having any construction done before you book.
